Welcome back! Glad you got to treat yourself after that hectic vacation! I've watched Philip Chase and Bookborn glowing non-spoilery reviews of The Book That Wouldn't Burn and it has made me so excited to read it when the time comes. ☺️
I am “of an age” that I remember those vacations with children and looking back I don’t remember the trip as much as I remember how exhausted I was the entire time? I think parents should get an extra week to recover while the kiddos go to Grandma’s? Since I am a Grandma I think this is a brilliant plan! 😂 I actually love book hauls and watching them! My favorite thing to do is go into a book store without a plan to hunt for books I might not know about….those hidden gems! I seem to be more open minded to books I might skip when I don’t have a plan? 💗
A VIDEO! A BOOK HAUL! What an absolute delight to wake up to, hahah. Sounds like you made good use of the store credit! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Emily Wilde's book, it gives off Lady Trent vibes so I have high hopes!! And I read and reviewed The Book That Wouldn't Burn, it was good but I think I loved the mystery and intrigue more before we got the shocking reveals, lol. Would love to hear your thoughts! Happy reading 🤩
I am massive GGK fan - have read all his books as he published them. So I started 35 years ago with Fionavar. Fionavar is very much a traditional portal fantasy. He writes very different types of stories as time goes on. And while objectively I recognise that he is a better writer now, Fionavar trilogy still remains my favourite of all his novels. It was the first time he made me bawl 😭 Not many authors manage that. So I hope you enjoy when you get around to it.
Yay! You got more GGK. If you like the Fionavar Tapestry, you'll really enjoy more of his later work and yes there are Arthurian themes in it. It will be interesting to see what you think of it.
Nice haul! Carter’s is not horror but rather tales that challenge your expectations. She takes fairy tales and rips them apart. Really good. I’ve got Fawcett’s book and need to try Gavriel Kay (not sure where for him). I’ve read Seraphina duology which I loved but not Tess yet😊
Ah yes, a family vacation with young children needs to be followed up with a relaxing adults-only vacation. Mike did not steer you wrong. Angela Carter is an amazing author and that collection is brilliant. I have heard several glowing reviews of The Book That Wouldn’t Burn, which I also just purchased. Happy reading.
What a great haul of books! I just checked out The Book that Wouldn’t Burn from my library. I had started it on audiobook but very quickly realized it’s a story for my eyeballs instead of my ears. I’m a little confused but I’m also curious and invested to see how things unfold; I’m excited for the journey. it will be exciting to see if you get to this sooner rather than later with all of these excellent books to choose from. Happy reading and welcome back from vacation
Wonderful video! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on that GGK trilogy and the Mark Lawrence book. I have yet to read something from both authors, but I hope to remedy that soon. Happy reading, Sarah! ❤
A Bananafish reading list is so Sarah 😂(I want to try Blue Period about a teen discovering he's an artist). I think Hemingway is a better short story writer than novelist. One I remember is A Clean, Well Lighted Place. I've read one Angela Carter and it was certainly provocative. I think I may make Book That Wouldn't Burn my first Mark Lawrence
Throw caution to the wind and read The Serpent's Wake! DO IT. I'm so interested in The Book That Wouldn't Burn. I've watched Philip Chase's review of it and his interview with Mark Lawrence, it sounds really good. I won't be able to resist a buddy read if you plan one in the discord.
Jake won't watch a book haul so I'll tell you that yes it supposedly has Arthurian elements 🤣 that cover is great, I also have that version. I am currently reading Book that Wouldn't Burn and it's good! Pachinko Buddy Read? In which I read it two to three months before you finally pick it up?
I'm reading The Book That Wouldn't Burn right now and really enjoying it. I think you will like it. Also, Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean, Well-Lighted Place are two classic Hemingway stories that I'm sure you will have in your collection.
I don't really think of the Bloody Chamber as horror, it's a collection of feminist retellings of fairytales, granted fairytales can be quite horrific and there is definitely blood and monsters in the collection, it's definitely more literary. It's one of my favorite collections of short stories. The Lady of the House of Love is my favorite.
I have never seen Angela Carter categorised as horror, either. Although I have a beautiful illustrated edition from "Ediciones Sexto Piso" and the illustrations are deliciously creepy. Angela Carter had been out of print in Spain for many years and this book was an absolute treat after all those years.
I’m begging you… …if any of your readalongs are with Allen, no matter how enticing the shiny new things, please, please read whatever-book-none-of-us-have-ever-heard-of with him first. Otherwise, the repercussions of Allen abandonment are just too painful for me to watch. lol

Thank you! It was a much-needed break, but I’m glad to be back. So glad to hear that people are enjoying the book - I’m hoping to get to it soon.

We brought the Grandparents along, so we at least got a couple of evenings to ourselves. 😅 But it was good, exhausting fun!
Yessss Hemingway!! A Farewell to Arms has been living in my brain rent free since earlier this year.
Oh no!! I like stepbacks like Pachinko. They are common in OG romance.
I will sacrifice my Jude the Obscure buddy read so you can read that book. I mean we're already reading Tyrants Law. 😘
His stories are so hard to forget! Hoping I’ll love some of this collection. ❤️
Welcome back Sarah!
I have seen Mark Lawrence books in some local charity shops but I’ve never picked them up. Sounds like maybe should have!
Thank you! I’ve only read Book of the Ancestor, but thoroughly enjoyed that series!
A VIDEO! A BOOK HAUL! What an absolute delight to wake up to, hahah.

Yes, finally back!!! Ahh, Lady Trent vibes = my new favourite buzzwords 😍

Yay! I love it when books make me cry, so hopefully I’ll have the same experience ❤️

It will be interesting to see what you think of it.
I’m very excited to read more from him. After this I need to decide if I’ll just go for publication order or just all over the place 😅
Happy reading to you!! 🎥📚
Thanks, Safina! I hope you’re doing well 🥰

I’ve got Fawcett’s book and need to try Gavriel Kay (not sure where for him). I’ve read Seraphina duology which I loved but not Tess yet😊
Ahh, nice! That sounds more to my taste, if anything. Really looking forward to it now!

So true! 😅😅 I hope this book works well for both of us 🥰

Thank you so much!! I hope eyeball reading goes well for you! 🥰
😁😁
🥰
I am currently reading “book wouldn’t burn!”
Nice! How are you feeling about it?
@@TheBookCure I think I like it, I’m a bit confused but hoping it all comes together
Wonderful video! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on that GGK trilogy and the Mark Lawrence book. I have yet to read something from both authors, but I hope to remedy that soon. Happy reading, Sarah! ❤
Thanks, Johanna! I hope we can find some books to chat about soon; I miss you! Happy reading right back at you ❤️
@@TheBookCure I miss you too!!!! I was actually just thinking that recently! ❤
Glad you enjoyed vacation
Thanks, my friend! ❤️
Fun haul Sarah! I’ve heard Fionavar is a must read from Kay.
Thanks, Chas! I’m very excited to read it!

I think I may make Book That Wouldn't Burn my first Mark Lawrence
It really is 🤣🤣 I am so looking forward to Hemingway’s short fiction. I’m sure I’ll message you when I get to that story in particular!
Noooo, Coleton. No enabling! I will be successful with the June TBR!
Brigit wants to read Pachinko too! Buddy read (like, for real 🤪🤪) in the fall?
I'm reading The Book That Wouldn't Burn right now and really enjoying it. I think you will like it. Also, Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean, Well-Lighted Place are two classic Hemingway stories that I'm sure you will have in your collection.
I’m so glad to hear that! I’ll keep an eye out for both those stories as I make my way through. Thanks 🥰
I also hate book insets but I love Pachinko!
Yay!! I think I’ll love it as well. I’ve heard so many good things.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on The Fionavar Tapestry, I’ve seen it around but haven’t felt the urge to pick it up yet
I hope I can get to it soon. That cover is calling to me!
I need to read Rachel Hartman
If you do, I hope you enjoy!
A book haul!!!!
OOh I got Pachinko at my library sale last year. Let me know when you are going to read it.
Yes!!! Fall buddy read 😍
I don't really think of the Bloody Chamber as horror, it's a collection of feminist retellings of fairytales, granted fairytales can be quite horrific and there is definitely blood and monsters in the collection, it's definitely more literary. Nice! That sounds much more to my taste, to be honest. Hopefully Mike’s staff pick will be an absolute winner for me!
I’m begging you…

Hahahaha, noted! I will make all Allen buddy reads top priority, always 😇🤣
