I purchased a tiny Christmas tree at a yard sale. I decorated it with clip on earrings from other yard sales.
I clip onto shoes, sweaters and collars....love your tree idea.
Sympathies to the family for their loss. What an amazing and talented lady. Beautiful handmade quilts, art and stitch work. You two are so respectful of the owner and her family.
I agree that it's sad but I think it's great that you acknowledge it. I try and honor the homeowner by checking the kitchen for the little recipe box full of their handwritten recipes. ♥
So nice how you two take the time to admire the homeowners' artwork, quilts etc. Often people just plow through the house without considering the history and talent. You showed respect and care. Thank you.
Love that your saving the beautiful old quilts. She was a very talented lady. Nice finds today.
Loved the video thanks...looking at that family’s belongings it’s makes you realise we are not here for a long time so make it a good time 💕💕💕
People find them sad but I can’t think of anything better than someone buying my stuff and feeling so excited by an item I found interesting. I know how I feel when I find an awesome item and hopefully someone will get that same feeling when they buy all my junk when I’m gone.
My mom was the same way. She will get a kick out of us doing an estate sale with her stuff.
Mimi's Treasure Cottage my kids have planned a funeral/ yard sale the same day lol. When I buy something now they say. What should we sell this for at your funeral? Kinda morbid but funny too.
I agree.. I tell my nieces when I am gone take what u warm then call an estate sale company.
I really enjoyed that you appreciated the house, the sadness of selling off someone's cherished belongings. Lots of pickers never mention this aspect of estate sales. And it was lovely to hear you say how much you loved their artwork and talents. I felt touched that you were so respectful. Beautiful quilts and needlework. I would have bought the quilts too, and the painting you got.
Finally I can tell you something I have learned so much from you both , the two tone green quilt is called snail's trail pattern
Love the crewel work, I have done some myself and saw a rectangular pillow on the couch that is exactly like mine. There was an old sampler on the wall in one of your shots that might be worth a fortune. As a needleworker and quilt instructor and painter I think you need to go back and take a second look as those pillows alone are worth quite a lot. Consider the hours of work in a quilt and that green cross stitch and the crewel blanket you could make quite a hull. Just saying. Love your videos and as I am too old to go to flea markets and sales, I shop with you. Hugs.
I'd like to watch you both go to more estate sales. They always have the nicest vintage finds. You are helping the family find loved pieces new homes.💚💛💚💛💚💛💚
The happy quilt is someone's version of heaven where lion will lye down with the lamb
I agree...the first thing I thought of was the Garden of Eden. 💕
Since I live in a retirement city there are a lot of estate sales. Please do more estate sales on this channel. I learn so much from you and Andrew so having you show eatate sale finds is a bonus for me ❤💚💜💙💛
This was a fun change of pace----thank you! (I agree, it feels weird walking around someone else's house and all the old vibes of the family)
I love feeling those vibes! We are one human family learning from each other
Check your local college. They might have a art department that has students who are learning how to restore art work. They might help you with that painting.
That lady did amazing needlework.
I feel the same about estate sales. A life's accumulation of treasures and household goods sold to strangers. So much history in those items. The woman who made those beautiful quilts and crewel pieces had so much talent, imagine asking her questions! I always always wonder about the deceased.
That green grey quilt pattern is called snails trail, but it also has more than one name
This is without a doubt the BEST vid you have ever put out. So enjoyed. Thanks. Peace. Out.
Love the 70s carpet. Sales like these make me want to purge my stuff. I'm not a hoarder but I am a collector. I'm getting to the age where I need to narrow my buying.
That reverse painted is amazing! What an amazing price too! It’s a primitive! Take the moldy painting to an art restorationist. They can easily clean and remove it. The colors will pop after a professional cleaning too.
I wonder how many people can use their RUclips channel for I.D.?? That was awesome
I think the painting or embroidery picture of the lion and dog and dear, where everything is happy, represents the afterlife where there is peace and the lion will lay down with the lamb. It reminded me of that.
Dear Timothy, it's an earthly reference not heavenly and we know this because animals don't receive a resurrection but the Bible promises that after armageddon earth will be a paradise where the animals will all get along and the loin will eat grass like the lamb. Again eating is an earthly reference! So wonderful that you are thinking of God in this world! So study on this thought and see what you can find about it in your Bible.
That oil painting is stunning! Yes, you picked up the Dresden teacup! All amazing choices, cannot wait for the haul video!
The picture with the loin and the dog is my perfect world where all the animals get along. I love love love estate sales
This is from the Bible where the Lion and the lamb will lie down with each other symbolizing the peace that will come to earth someday.
@@nancyrallen I was hoping someone would know this besides me.
My oldest sister does embroidery and she did that particular piece but it's twice as big and it's beautiful she had it professionally hung and it looks like it did the day she made it. Made me smile I thought of her.
@@deborahramsey9347 your sister is very talented to make a larger version of this beautiful piece. As soon as I saw the one from the estate sale, I immediately thought it was heavenly.
Thank you, ladies. ☺
so many treasures...I always feel a little weird at estate sales...but still love going to them
EPIC estate sale. That jewelry is to die for! Can't wait to see the haul.
All those beautiful items, and I got ampted over the Cookie Monster stuffed toy in the closet. LOL I have to tell you, I love your sensitivity. The comments you made about those little animal figurines being precious to someone. I almost cried. I think I would have cried if I had been in the house. It's sad to see someone's life, someone's memories being sold off to strangers. So, thank you for acknowledging that.
Lisa K omg me too! That Cookie Monster gave me all the feels!
I so agree with you, I hope that someone will love my treasures well when I'm gone ( I'm getting to that age when I need to start considering options) Thanks for being sensitive to this as well. xo
The first stuffed animal she touched in the closet looked like Rufus (a lion) my favorite of the 100+ stuffed animals I had as a kid.
Cyd here. WOW! I wish the estate sales we go to were half that good.
The Lion/dog/deer crewelwork picture is a Naive folkart representation of "The Peaceable Kingdom" theme from the Bible.
Sure is!
YESS!! I could not remember... it’s been jogging in my brain all morning
I can't remember if she took it.
Oh I hope so! It was gorgeous
Yes! I came on here so I could add that commentary, but you got to it first. Thank you! :)
It’s nice that you care about the person who once owned the things
Estate sales make me so sad but i wanted to thank you for treating everything with such great respect. When people shop at estate sales they forget that they are literally digging through someone’s entire life. Things they loved and had meaning to that person. I have seen some awful people shopping at estate sales and their disrespect makes me so disgusted. Thank you for being a good human being.
Sure wish you’d taken Sue with you too - I’d love to hear her knowledgeable anecdotes about some of those antiques!
This has been my favorite video of yours. I love watching you and Andrew , and how you appreciate fine aged things. Also love how you are both so respectful of the situation here. Estate sales are sad, but it's nice to know that these things are so appreciated by you both.
Tom They also respect each other and that’s cool too, my DH would not have the patience for an estate sale! He appreciates the things I buy when I show them to him, but the process, not so much. 😂
@@shinyshinythings I know what You mean, my Hubby is a "dasher" through yard sales and such, me, I really like to go slow and take my time, but he has a good eye and when he finds something it is top of the line!!🙂
PS I love Your handle "shinyshinythings!!" I really like shiny and sparkly things!!🙂
I had that Garfield telephone as a teenager! Made me smile!
I still have one, it’s over 30 years old, I bought it New when it came out!
Look at ALL the books and jewelry!! ❤️
There is a whole community of journal/traveling notebook/Bible journalers who will buy single earrings as embellishments for their books. Posts just poke through pages and covers like pins and clip-ons can be used like paper clips. 🥰
Great idea !!
I have been going to garage sales, auctions, estate and tag sales since I was 13 years old with my folks, then I started Goodwill shopping at age 17 yrs. and I am still doing this at 65 years young lol! I had antique booths at two antique market locations and set-up booths at flea markets, as well. I left home in my teens and did this to help pay bills...learned by studying books at libraries and if I bought something I knew was old, I would go into a local bookstore, find a book on the item and look up appraisal prices...I couldnt afford to buy that book, but it gave me a price range on what my item was worth. Once, I found an old big bushel style basket at a farm garage sale. I liked it so bought it for 3 dollars. I saw that it was signed by the grandfather of Longenberger Basket Company....sold it for 900 dollars! I was working for minimum wage of $2.10 an hour at that time, so I was beyond happy over that find! That is why I still do this...not all about the money, it is the thrill of hunt and of course...the epic finds! I married at 34 years old...my fiance had 2 plates, 2 mugs, a frying pan and one pot etc. You should have seen his face when I moved into his bigger apartment and "brought along" my 12 sets of antique porcelain and Depression era dinnerware, each service for twelve, including all serving pieces; antique linens; Victorian parlor furniture, oil paintings and GWTW lamps etc. lol! He quit crabbing about my hoarding and stockpiles of "abundance of stuff" When he saw that none of it was junk and over the course of that first year of marriage, I sold so much that I had raised $10,000 bucks to purchase and pay off 3 acres of land he loved. We built our first home there. Together, we enjoyed going to auctions and estate sales to find all the antiques for that home lol! He was an avid hunter, so everytime hunting season arrived in Fall, I would tease him and say, "Good hunting, Dear...but I bet I bag more than you do...I am going hunting at Goodwill lol!" My thrifting did better than our stock market stocks too!
Oh my! I do enjoy estate sales but I agree with you on the “creeping” factor. You picked some really nice things, looking forward to the haul video. ❤️😁
"I love it. I need it. I need it in my life!" You are so adorable!
The Dresden cup and saucer, i got £80 on Ebay for mine. I paid a £1 for it. Buy it. 😊
That's a great find! I feel like they are overlooking some of the German porcelain sometimes... but she picked this one up luckily
I love old quilts too. The older and more worn they are, the softer they are. I use them until they are no longer usable for the bed. Then I use them for padding, chair protectors, pet bed's, etc. I save the best ones for special occasions, company, or holidays. Hopefully my own children will love them when I'm gone.
Those quilts and crewel pieces are gorgeous! To think of all the time and patience to make them. Great score!!
I think about the thoughts that were woven into each stitch.
Loved this video. I like getting to see big old houses so much, I often consider becoming a realtor just so I can legally creep!
Me too! I would love to be able to see inside every house just to see the decor.
I started watching the MLS listings in my area because I wanted to find land for building myself a retirement home, one level. Now it has become habit and I click on houses to see the pictures that the realtor posts. Doing this has helped me view design layouts plus I've looked inside a lot of houses that I've passed by for years but have only viewed from curbside.
As a professional artist, I would advise, NOT to spray water on to the back of the antique artwork canvas. In addition, NEVER put artwork/paintings in direct sunlight! I would take it to a restoration specialist for the mold issue, too. Also, why not have it appraised ...before...investing in restoration? Your videos are very enjoyable!! :)
My ex-husband who was a well known artist and many of my artist friends would occasionally use water on the back of canvases to re-stretch them. The age of the painting matters, the medium used and all of that is important to know if it is okay, but we did it and yes I did own a gallery and I did do it occasionally.
@@tigermoon44 I was addressing the "putting the painting in the SUN", issue...and if the painting needs to be restretched, as this painting had deep creases in the canvas, it should be restretched, not sprayed with water. Who would want to take the chance not knowing what mediums were used? Opinions vary.
As an artist, one of my paintings was packed by movers with a wooden plaque against it which then made marks similar to your painting. It was ok with a little time and went back in place. Did you notice that the light hitting from your camera showed deterioration and cracking of the paint? Careful with that. It will peel off. Due to that problem, I would not put water on the back of the painting to tighten it. (You can do that on a painting best before you paint it.)
Re the mold, professional should do it which is expensive. Using Q tips one at a time to gently clean. Keep it away from other items.
This woman was seriously talented in needlework and quilting! So much time and wonderful color. Andrew strawberry 🍓 🌳 are all the rage!!
I love when they’re family run , i’ve been to a few that are company run and amazingly overpriced and realllly unfriendly. they let 5 people in at a time and pound you over the head about theft . I love vintage jewelry of course!! you picked up some beauties!
Vintage Discoveries Bleah, what’s the fun in that? I’d never go back to an estate sale run that way. What a way to chase away business!
I always find the family run sales the second hardest to attend, behind the sales where the owner is present. I was hugging and crying with several family members one day at a sale, they had lost their beloved grandmother right around the time I lost mine and they were still fresh in their grief during the sale .
Mom and I would go to estate sales when I was very young and I loved it!! 🙂
you will spend a lifetime collecting for it all to go to the lowest bidders....I find estate sales very sad as well and I try to be extremely respectful and appreciative of the items purchased.
amen
I agree, sad. It makes you think material things are a waste of money. Keep your life simple and enjoy what you have.
I have to respectfully disagree in part. If you've enjoyed objects for a life time and they've made you smile, they are priceless. Yes it is somewhat sad that some things go for less than you paid for, but if they were precious to you and nobody else, who cares? In the end they made you happier. That's part of why when I go picking I only get items that I would want to keep for myself. It might not be the best practice for a reseller, but it's authentic.
LUISA DURANTE not down here in Houston. All the estate sales company put ridiculous prices on things at estate sales. That’s the reason I never go to any around here.
I watching this thinking, "I don't want this for my family." I've been purging now in case when I get older I'm not able to, but now I'm going to go double time.
I feel the same way when it comes to estate sales going to the house it's kind of sad that stuff is pieces of their life. Beautiful stuff
So you can spray water on the back of the painting to fix the bumps and warping in the canvas. When it dries it tightens the canvas. Depending on if there is a varnish on the painting the mold could be removed by a professional. If you have a local art gallery they may have professionals who can remove some of the varnish and fix it.
The prices are pretty steep at this estate sale. The estate sales around me are cheaper than thrift store pricing! I’m a lucky duck 🥰
Last day of the estate sales are usually half off... :)
This estate sale was organized by JD Estate Sale Warehouse out of Etters, PA. Here is a link to their facebook page where they announce their upcoming sales: bit.ly/2nDKE9V
It was really nice of the folks to let you video for us. This was one of the nicest estate sales I've ever seen. So many great finds and the woman had such talent and taste. The artwork was really something and the historical documents I just couldn't have passed up. I've never seen such a wonderfully appointed home out here and am truly glad that you were there to get the items you did. You and Drew show such kindness and respect I am sure that if the old folks knew they would be happy that people like you purchased their things. You will cherish what you can and send on the rest to folks who will enjoy them. What more could anyone ask for?! It is far better than everything just being dumped to GW. Thanks so much for taking us along. I was drooling over th quilts and her handiworks, but also all of those old paintings and documents. I can hardly wait for the haul video. I know it will be splendid. Have a great day guys and God bless!
I have never been to an estate sale that was so few people. We go every weekend and it is usually a mad house.
🇨🇦 SCORE with the quilts!!!!! LOVE watching you from Victoria BC EVERY morning! ...tiny request though, IF possible...after you get the camera focused...could you count to 3 after so we can get a good peak at your treasures? ❤️❤️❤️❤️. 🇨🇦
M Campbell, you can pause the video or go to the 3 little dots at the top right of the video & slow it down to 50%. Then go back & return it to normal speed.
🇨🇦. Thanks Rhonda. I do use that feature. Sometimes I watch things at 2X speed if it is a slow video. Not yours though Jocelyn! 😊 🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing this estate sale video. Viewers can get a deeper glimpse into your knowledge and excitement of vintage items. Plus your appreciation of an individuals hard work and love of art. You have the privilege of sharing your passion and do what you two 💕. It really shows
Jocelyn, the flower picture is beautiful. It looks like it was a great day for an estate sale.
Something I learned recently is that if there is a semiprecious jewel or colored glass in the center of an animal brooch, it’s not technically a jelly belly! The only real jelly belly brooches have a clear lucite stone. I’m not sure if there’s a special name for the other ones! I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for taking the time to make them!
Oh my I love everything you purchased, especially the quilts.
The crewel piece with the lion reminds me of 'Peaceable Kingdom'.
I so relate to you saying “ I feel like I’m creeping on someone’s stuff” when you walked upstairs !!. I always feel like I’m looking in someone’s purse. We have respect ☝️
“Do we need a clock? I think maybe we do.” 💘
Love estate sales, we go to them every time. The art work was great there, do hope you can get the mold off. Andrew is a great guy and funny, a good combination. See ya next time Linda from Arkansas 😆 😆 😉 😉
Wowser!!!! Some sale!!! I totally agree on your purchases, I can picture this in my house in a few years, so don't feel bad, good to know, it's going to an appreciative buyer! All the crewel imbroidery was stunning, the garden of Eden one a prize! Great going you two, hope you find more sales like this. Best regards, Carol
The brown quilt pattern is known as snails trail. The crewel work is gorgeous as is the green embroidered quilt!
Maybe it's just me but some of those prices seemed way too high.
I felt the same way.
Location, location. Major reselling markets are within just a few hours.
Estate sales can be like that. Most of the time people are hired to run them and they know the value and want to make as much as possible. Usually the last day is 50% off.
@@mandypink7878 Only one estate company here in SE Michigan will do the last hrs sale ...a bag sale! I've made so much at my garage sales by snagging some great deals
very typical of the professionally handled estate sales in my area as well, many companies look up items on ebay, and everyone watches shows such as American Pickers, etc. I would have spent the money on several of the items that they purchased as well, it is hard to find good stuff now.
Hi my fav cpl. That pic of the lion/ puppy/ bird etc... is biblical. It's the peacefulness of heaven. It has allot of meaning. See your super power came into play and you didn't know why. Kudos to you for the respect and acknowledgment to the owners. You think out loud. Great haul! Can't wait for the reveal... ❣ you guys
That hummingbird feeder❤️
So yes!!!
I am going through some of your older videos and this one just has me appreciating you so much. When you say things like, "She was so talented". I love how you appreciate the person for their creativity. Made me 😊
Soo Sweet when Jocelyn said, “It was someone’s dream.” 👏🏼💕👏🏼
What a great collection of items in that sale! Love the 1879 painting. And my new thing to learn of the day- copper luster ware.
Hi, Cathy Miller. I'm Kathy Miller. :-D
FlaKNMB Pleased to meet you, Kathy!
I have an Aunt Kathy Miller also :)
So many beautiful memories and she was very talented with her craftwork. Really appreciate that you both are so respectful of the former owners tastes xx
The embroidered piece with the lion was probably a heaven scene where the animals were playing under the tree of life.
Would you please do a video of how you pack things up to ship ?
I enjoy your videos. I have only been to one estate sale but it was so amazing . I am glad you filmed this .
Charlotte Carreto
YES! Pack to shop video please! I’ve been asking for some time now but no luck 😕
Charlotte Carreto Sue has one on her channel!
Teacups are one of the first things i go for. Shelley Chintz and Aynsely fruit cups and saucers can be worth HUNDREDS if you find the right patterns.
Great finds - I go to estate sales weekly- those prices are fabulous for the quality of items you picked - I’m in California and you rarely find things like you found - if you did it would be twice the amount you paid - thank you for sharing
Lisa Dillard I agree our west it’s rare to find these things when you do it’s quite high in price
Arizona here, definitely none of the older stuff like this. Everyone declutters before moving west.
Erie pa here! I know, most of the stuff I sell on Etsy heads to Cali 😆
Dawn Nadal ironically most of the stuff I sell goes East!
I always put quilts in one of those fishnet laundry bags it will save your quilts from being pulled apart
That's a big old house! It's so interesting to walk through a total stranger's home.
I love the Crystal cake stand next to picture❤️
Beautiful needlework! Love, love, love the quilts and the cross stitched coverlet is really nice. Love the painting, can’t wait for the haul video!
I love estate sales! But with a touch of sadness, it someone’s whole life and love of things, be it big or small being sold. You found some awesome things. Maybe a new venue for you to find treasure?
Estate sales are amazing I can’t believe the great things you found
I am addicted to estate sales.
The cat. The blue and white china cat is so pretty! I love the pose.
Hi Jocelyn & Andrew 👋so excited to see a state sale yay ☕
I know how you felt being there...I, like you treat everything with respect. You know the items are someone’s life long collection, kinda sad...
I think that picture of the happy animals goes to show that wild and tame can be together and be happy that all things can get along in a beautiful world. Yea!
Oh my gosh I love estate sales, and garage sales too. I learned from you Jocelyn, I found some blue & white spongeware at an estate sale that I got for $3 & $4. Thank you so much for all your knowledge. I love watching you and Drew.
On spots make a past out of baking soda and water put on spot even blood rinse and let dry works for me babe carrig
Wow, they had an amazing collection!
What an amazing estate sale! Thank you for taking us along. Looking forward to the haul🙃
❤ this video! I hope you go to more estate sales. 15 years ago I was given a family heirloom like the unfinished coverlet. Unfortunately, it was stained with rust and a few unidentifiable stains🙀.
I used hydrogen peroxide to remove blood stains (if that work use OxiClean stain stick first and follow up with hydrogen peroxide). Rinse and repeat.
Don’t freak 😱. I use bleach pen for other stains. It worked beautifully and the fabric is intact and beautiful and on display in my guest room today.
IMPORTANT: Only process stains on white fabric! Process stains no larger then a two inch area at a time competing the entire process! DON’T use the bleach pen near any stitching.
Lay the section to be worked over an old wadded bath towel.
Dab the bleach pen along the stain and let it sit for a few seconds (literally).
Place the material over a sink, holding any stitching away from the water.
Rinse thoroughly until the the fabric no longer smells of bleach.
Line dry. Start on the next stain.
You were so right about the dog/deer/l Iion piece.....LOVE IT
The embroidery with the lion and dog is in a medieval style.
Hiya Jocelyn & Andrew, looks like you cleaned up! Love estate sales, always such an interesting mix of stuff. I look forward to seeing the goodies! Have a lovely weekend! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
I miss when you used to color your hair a bright, and bold color like red or hot pink. It really makes your eyes and your face just pop and shine.
But then again you would look beautiful in a burlap bag.
I only go to estate sales on the last day when everything is half price.
And all the good stuff is gone 😆
Definitely a beautiful collections, very nice finds. Looking forward to the Haul video.. 😉❤
You really got some beautiful quilts and the woman that did all of that work is very very very talented.
Estate sales remind me of the “objects” I have collected over the years, items that meant so much to me that my children will be stuck with when I croak! At 60 I’ve realized how the term downsizing is so liberating.
Egads, I'm going to have to offload all of those stupid "collectable " Bradford plates my mother collected AND every stupid box they came in.
Wow! My mom was an amazing quilter, so I would have grabbed those quilts too. ❤️👍👏❤️😁
Looking forward to the mystery unboxings 😁😁
I could absolutely spend a small fortune at that sale.
So many great items.
I love how you respect the sellers, I don’t know how people can disrespect folks at estate sales.
Thank you for sharing.
Be safe out there and live a happy life!!!
The stitchery with puppy, lion, and bird is about the tree of life and animals all getting along in heaven
