  • The fourth round of the UMORA race series was hosted by the Firebirds MC at Jericho Utah, May 6, 2023. Ride along with Mike in the Expert class aboard his '23 250 XC. This bike is so fun and so was the course! Due to the crazy winter we've had in Utah, all of the higher elevation trails are still covered in snow so the majority of the course was in the lower elevation stuff which usually means whoops and junky trails, but the Firebirds did an awesome job minimizing the whoops and keeping us in the fun stuff. Overall the course was pretty fast terrain, but I was fortunate to get a decent start and stay out of the dust.

My last race at 62 years old was north of Delta, put on by the Firebirds. Had a great time except for that crazy hill nobody could get up. Think I won my class, I was the only one in it! 🤣

Woah. Super important to get the hole shot with that dust at those speeds. Its definitely an equalizer though, spreading out the pack

Loos like a fun day of racing! I love the more open higher speed courses. I grew up on these types of races in District 38. Good times! Love to hear you make that pinger sing!

My very first race was Firebirds on a 2002 KTM 520 exc. Didn't go super well but I was hooked. Those were fun times!

How you have gotten faster with age blows my mind! You have Huevos the size of my brainless 18 year old. Honestly, your videos are going to be responsible for many old man injuries in the future as we all see how fast you are going and we are going to think that is still possible for us. LOL J/K Great vid! Keep shredding!!

I've been accused of being more like a brainless 18 year old more than once by my wife :)

Awesome, awesome riding Mike! I've been following Josh Since around 2018, I've seen your races in the past but is it just me or are you getting much, much faster? Your eyesight must be superb. Just great to follow along with you. Thank you for taking the time to record your race and keeping your goggles clear. What can we do to get Josh to carry an extended battery pack? He used to but lately....? Must be a reason. P.S. I've been falling in love with Utah because of Ride with the Knights races. Beautiful, gorgeous landscapes.

Thanks for the comments and I'm really glad you enjoy the race footage from the Knight crew. I don't know that I'm getting any faster, but I admit that I'm really enjoying this new bike. It's ironic that you say what you do about eyesight. I literally can't do anything without "readers" these days, but fortunately I don't need readers for reading motorcycle terrain (although you would probably laugh if I told you I carry readers in my fanny pack).
I'll put a bug in Josh's ear about wearing an extended battery pack. He likes to record in 4K and he bought the Enduro pack which has better longevity, but definitely won't record a 2-4 hour race. I have an auxiliary battery jerry-rigged to the back of my helmet with a power cord running to the camera so it allows me to get about 3 hours of record time.
We're fortunate to live where we do in Utah.
