As many have said and a famous quote "don't panic" Do not use your nukes you will regret it later watching your play style! SG' are pretty easy to take out with both unguided missiles to break armour and bombs to finish off (SG are weak to the left in general). MC's follow a similar tactic. AC's are a little more tricky - hit with 2x KH15 1st then finish off. Aircraft; if sending sub and supersonic together time the launches, or set waypoints with equal time (right-click 1st point, ctrl+ right-click for others). This also applies to ships allowing you to hit multiple cities at the same time by matching arrival times. Loot; don't waste your efforts with cyphers or crew they are simply not needed. Encrypted msg are easy to break - look at the first word (Expect, Travel, Arrival, Will and so on - don't waste time trying to break the middle words unless you can tell what it is). Hidden cities are approx 950km from each town - use the compass to create a 950km radius - the gap is often a city location. General tactics: Strip flagship to the bones (6 runs without it ever firing a shot in anger), hit SG's early, this allows you to hit transports and build funds. Never allow fuel to burn while docked - saying no does nothing!!
Hit ‘em hard boss. now is also a G R E A T time to get dedicated super sonic fighters who’s only job is to kill cruise missiles. Because Those missiles are about to go from “that hurt” to “oh that’s the S U N”. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that you do not want the sun to spawn next to your ships xз
First of all, I am absolutelly loving this game, this playthrough, and you in particular. I have allways craved to see a game where you could depend on the art of strategic war to win, and didn't have to relly on what unit is stronger, some rock paper scissors system or some other thing like that. A real wargame, like the ones played by strategist during ww2. Not just a game dependent on skill, experience or knowing stats, but dependent on the intellect of the player, and you show that intellect and strategic prowes at every move. However, I was five minutes into the video when I saw the title and exclaimed "DEFCON 1? By Prometheus, how did we get here?!" And I think thats the apropiate reaction whenever you encounter DEFCON 1. Also, this is definitivelly Arrakis, and the duke is called Paul, change my mind. Also also, on that topic, using your atomics is clearlly in violation of the laws of the Lansraad.
Thank you for the great comment, I really appreciate you taking the time to make it. The Dune DNA in this game is incredibly strong for sure. There are even unused assets in the game files for giant worms and wormsign!
19:27 - You don't need to get rid of that large fuel tank to elevate the main gun. I have a 50 second video on how to elevate it with as few steps as possible to minimize repair time in my guide. That's the easiest way I can communicate it to you. I also have a picture with boxes around the relevant areas. On the other hand, I would say that if you did take that large fuel tank out, there wouldn't be a need to elevate the main gun anymore. I can tell you from experience that having the RD-51's touching each other along the bottom means they all die at the same time if they get hit. I added gaps and after that they died one at a time.
Elevating requires a 2x2 block (mid layer), surrounded by a 2x1 block (outer layer) to raise large turrets (center layer elevated). This is sound advise
I think we both know by now that I am either Super Lucky or Super Unlucky. Knife fighting a Varyag with a Lightning is never off the table in this playthrough.
I know this is too late to comment already, and I haven't watched how this ended, but problem with nuclear war even if destroying all of the strike fleets is that all of the missile carrier groups remain and they will reload nuclear missiles, afaik they are like a dozen of them around the map.
You know, I never once fired nuclear weaponry at a city in any of my playthroughs. Just not something I was ever prepared to do. Doing it just to sweep away garrisons just feels kinda disgusting; I get attacking 2 Strike Fleets with Nomads, meaning they're really nasty ones, that's a target you might really struggle to kill conventionally. But a nuclear strike on all the cities around Khiva just to deal with static garrisons feels pretty wasteful and overly brutal.
I would never use a nuke on a normal garrison. I get where you are coming from, it's not a decision I want to make lightly. As it happens, we probably have some Hubris to deal with..
You can win normal and hard without firing a single Nuke! place a ship in each marked city (2000km radii from Khiva) before landing in it - this will net you approx 40 ships lol. :)
Poor Rooster needs some repairs! So many red parts. Should you not have dropped the cruise missiles short of the fleets to give them time to home if the enemy sorties south?
I actually really like it and use it a lot in my custom ship playthroughs. I notice that Romani and Khivan ships in general tend to use it sparingly and it is quite expensive. When/if we get the chance I will probably swap out a lot of standard hull for reinforced. The Lightnings for example have 'humps' on top that work well as reinforced as a spacer to absorb fire, same with the missile mounts on the side. The only reason I am not using it right now on the Zero Sum is it is a heavy bloody ship and I want to keep the weight as low as possible.
A reinforced hull is good for lighter ships at twice the hit points but is weak to AOE damage and repair time. Spaced armour concept is well worth it if you like to brawl!
I'll be interested to see how you handle nuclear war. For me, crossing that line helps in the short term, and then I just get wiped out as nukes rain from the sky on my head
@@Trifler500 You can recover; sell ships you don't need. you can ask for reinforcement ships (support stars) if lucky you will a vega or kormorant, strip the missiles and sprints then sell it. Sell all nukes, they are not needed. Find all hidden cities/sell nukes if obtained. Don't waste funds on AP rounds only ProxFuse (most useful), sell all laser guided rounds. Be wise when looting wrecks (get the fuel it is worth more than coins). Don't leave fuel behind. Hope that helps. Failing is learning :)
I noticed that the 1.16 game update has enhanced enemy anti air capabilities, making aircraft and cruise missiles less effective against them. I tried to mimic your approach in this old gameplay series with aircraft and missiles, and suffered more casualties and losses than I would like. If you play again with vanilla 1.16, what different strategies and tactics would you take in the campaign?
Ok. I’m going to reply myself. I kept pressing on with the approach with missiles and planes. I found the followings worked for me: 1. If 4 cruise missiles being shot down too much, use 8 missiles at once to cause some damage. 2. Once the 8 missiles depleted the enemy’s anti air missiles, bring in the supersonic planes (the faster one), all planes in a single strike to use the advantage of sudden strike. The enemy only slow response when being sudden attacked, and will respond much quicker in the following attacks when alarm is raised and element of surprise is lost. 3. The slower type of planes is garbage. They only have value in recon and suicide attacks.
33:40 when you contemplate starting a nuclear war cause TWO cruisers ships are on the ground
Heh, I maybe took the prospect of declaring nuclear war a little too lightly..
@@Phrosphor i mean they did start it, your gust keeping mad intact.

I know it would be tempting fate, but I was hoping to see a hero lightning taking on a SG. But the "Here Comes the Sun" approach works just as well.

Sevastopol has nukes from very beginning and you can't avoid using this ship.
Hey, stumbled across your playthrough without ever having heard of this game and now I’m 13+ videos deep. Good stuff, enjoy your play
I don't know if I would be as eager as you seem with the big missiles, but it is also pretty hard to judge as a viewer to be fair.
My history of being wrecked by Varyag cruisers in the past is certainly playing into my reactions to finding TWO within striking distance of my fleet.
hit city with nuke will be bad
I recommend hitting with nukes outside the city

100% the same for me too. It never seems worth giving the enemy access to their own nukes.
Do you know if the number of trade fleets during a campaign are finite, or if they spawn?
Transports are a finite number. SG', MC' and AC' can be up to 5-7 each per game on Normal. Transports and attackers can have the same names...
