I think I posted this last time you guys were on the topic, but i think that in addition to worlds there should be another qualifier event for less cp. Maybe a midseason invitational to reward high early placements at the few majors/cups up to that point. Also, would be cool to have a shop attached to the points where you can redeem participation awards for hitting certain thresholds. like every couple hundred cp you can get something. doesn't have to be expensive for them, could be stamped promo cards or literally anything to commemorate the season. Really, anything to bridge the gap between 0 and 600. I personally really dislike traveling, so grinding 15 majors for an invite is a no go from me. but if i have a few hundred points at the end, it'd be cool to get something for that besides a screenshot haha. But then typing that, I have the thought that maybe what I got from the tournaments themselves was enough, and asking for more sounds entitled. idk!

What you wrote is exactly the problem right now. If you don't want to dedicate a massive chunk of free time and money to grinding then worlds isn't for you. Having no intermediate events/achievements makes it worlds or bust for everyone. More rewards and/or events for hitting point thresholds is such an easy solution to implement. - Ciaran

I’ve tested with noah for 7 years at this point. I know my word means nothing, since I’m his friend, but I would bet my life that noah wasn’t cheating. He’s the most honest and trustworthy person I know. Legitimately. I hope he gets his invite after Pokémon reviews his support ticket.

I like having fun playing cards with my friends at the shop on saturdays, besides that, this game is very unfair at a tournament professional level. People want to judge without having evidence or arguments to base their point, I hate the judging in this game, it's so stupid whenever they stop a game for about 40 minutes just because an energy card dropped out of someone's deck. That's why I'm not a professor anymore, I just wanna have fun.

When I played MTG I went to and watched multiple local competitive tournaments and untimed top 8 isnt that bad. You probably still have enough judges around to watch over top 8 for each division or enough for every judge to have 1 top 8 match they sit at and watch. Someones actively playing to slow in a top 8 match the judge is right there to get the games to move along at a reasonable pace or to easily correct problems or game states. But that also requires competent judges to be employed for the tournament.
Here in winnipeg we have like 4 LGS's and 1 has been doing pokemon for a long time but it only does a casual 4 round bo1 nothing that feeds into the pokemon comp tourny system, 1 is a long time mtg hotspot for the city and just recently started doing pokemon and getting 25+ player but no wild league cups or challenges, another can only fit 16 players and only does casual locals, and the 4th probably only has recently started running pokemon events. 4 stores all run casual events the 2nd one thats new to pokemon has run win a boxes but literally no stores here have a desire to schedule league cups or challenges or w/e gets you into the tournament system. So the only hot spots in canada are probably Vancouver and Toronto.

Untimed could be pretty decent locally, my concern just lies with venue rental times and people making their flights/planning them ahead. Right now it's fair to assume even if you top 8 a regional you'd be done early enough to make a 7/8pm flight but untimed would make even that tricky.
I'm surprised the 'Peg is so barren to be honest. The process of getting cups and challenges is not immensely difficult, if any of the stores are interested in getting it running feel free to give them my info to reach out to. I've been involved in the process many times in Toronto and if you do it right you can probably get challenges in under 6 months, hope it turns around soon! - Aneil

I wouldn't mind worlds being more "exclusive" if competitions and tournaments become more accessible. It's hard to compete when it takes a 2+ hour drive to even get to a league challenge.

On the topic of worlds I don’t think the size matters simply because of the fact that not just anyone can go makes it feel really cool. Like to look at a crowd of people that “technically” did comparable to you is humbling and then standing above all of those beneath you in the end is kind of sick if the pile of bodies is 1000 vs 300

    • @ShiftGearPodcast

Definitely a positive thought in a space full of negativity that I can appreciate. It's a good point, and the feeling I've felt most of these years that I've gone - but the one thing that stands out to me is that as it gets smaller that group feels more and more elite.... which is also a humbling and fun feeling. It's definitely awesome either way and great for self-reflection - Aneil
