    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 года назад

      Sorry to hear about your canary.
      Is your vet a certified avian vet?
      What does your vet say about the eye? I would seek out a new avian vet if treatment is not working or ask for more tests such as an x-ray if the vet thinks your bird can handle an x-ray.
      I never experienced a swollen eye lid with my birds before so not sure what it is. I hope your canary will get better.

      Hi, canaries normally stick out their tongue and move it back and forth and in a circle to clean inside their beak which is normal.
      Is your canary using her foot to get something out of the beak?
      Since you did not see anything then perhaps it's normal but keep an eye on her.

    Hello, i really liked your video. I do have a canary. I bought her like 2 days ago and something weird happened. I don’t know if you could help me with that. So the first problem i noticed is, when i was cleaning her cage she started flying around for 20 seconds and she started breathing with her mouth wide open for a second. Then while holding her in my hands she made a click noise it was so weird. Did any of your canaries ever do that? should i get her checked? Btw could you describe what a normal canary poop looks like? Hope you can answer my questions.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, canaries are prone to respiratory problems. They also stress easy. Your canary could just be stressed from you putting your hand in there and holding her. If you continue to hear clicking or see her breathing with the mouth open take her to the avian vet as soon as possible. I had to take one of mine today as he was clicking badly and heavy breathing since last night. He is on medication and hope he recovers. Treating a respiratory problem as soon as possible is very important. Good luck and let me know how she does.

    hi, loved the video and your canary is so cute. i’m a little concerned about my own canary as she was fine this morning but i noticed earlier on in the evening that she wasn’t moving much, and that she didn’t resist when i went to pick her up. i took her out the cage so that she could fly around but she wouldn’t move. she was clinging to the cage + my hand. i’ve also noticed recently that she finishes her water within the same day which is unusual for her. she’s opening and closing her mouth and breathing heavily all of a sudden and i’m really concerned. what should i do?

    I fed my canary Ivermectin 24 hours ago. How long does it usually take for the effects to kick in? He still puffs up a bit and is usually idle on his perch except in certain moment he'll have a burst of energy and eat/drink as normal and then do the same thing again. Is this possible for them to know to go to my budgie ? I separate them in the morning in separate rooms and don’t let them out at in the same rooms as I think my budgie could kill him. Air sack mites are carried through the air if your canary coughs or sneezes. Its best to keep them far apart.

    Hi there, just looking for some advice as my canary bird has his eye lid swollen and it’s been like that for a while now like a couple of months ... I took her to the vet who did prescribe some antibiotics SHES been like in and out of the agai an vets room the vet her self has told me that the bird was not bought from a good breeder and is always going to be falling sick however, I gave her her meds . But to no avail she still has her eye lid swollen she is a very active bird tho always UPTO SOMETHING or the other and eats well. Right now I think she is trying to lay an egg as she is in and out of her best always sitting into for a while then goes off to get some scraps of nest material.
    Do you have any suggestions advice any home remedies? Please share

      Hi, the only thing that I can suggest is get a second opinion from another avian vet. Did the vet give you eye drops? One of my birds needed eye drops because of conjunctivitis and it helped but not sure if it's the same thing. Is your vet an avian vet?

    Hello there I feel my canary had some kind of stroke or seizure , he survived but can't walk or eat on its own , I don't want to see him suffer anymore , what should I do ?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  3 года назад +2

      Hi, sorry to hear about your canary. Keep him in a small cage with no perches. Place fleece or paper towel in the bottom of the cage to make it soft. Place low dishes of food and water. You can also sprinkle food on the bottom of the cage. Give spray millet and greens as they like that the most.
      If he does not get better then a trip to your avian vet is best. The vet can either find out what's wrong or decide if it's time to go peacefully.
      Best wishes

    I’ve had my canary for about 2 or 3 months and we’ve been doing fine, but just today I put my finger up and her mouth opened like a defence... idk what to do, even if I put my finger inside to say hi she runs over and opens her mouth like it’s going to bite me! And I think it was going to ! What do I do?:(

    • @Loveofpets

      Canary's are more of a hands off bird, they don't like to be touched. Talk to her and offer millet from your hand and see if she will take any.

      Keep trying, it may take a long time. Don't give up. Go slow, offer treats from your hand, talk to him, let him come out on his own. Use words like step up when you have your hand in front of him and praise if he steps up. Use the same words for each behavior such as good boy or yes or good bird.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад

      Going to an avian vets is best. Keep him warm by covering three sides of his cage with a blanket or towel and leave the front open. Give him fresh water, fresh foods and some canary seed along with spray millet. Make sure he is eating and drinking. He may need medication from the vets.

    • @Loveofpets

      Your canary is just having fun. They love to pick at fibers and strings or anything soft. Could be looking for Nesting material or just being a bird.
      If the carpet is small you can roll it up while your canary is out.
      If it's large cover your carpet with paper or a large plastic sheet. If you use plastic be sure to air it outside first as the smell that comes from new plastic can be toxic to your canary.

    Is ivermectin to prevent it?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  3 года назад

      Ivermectin is too kill any parasites or bugs that are on the bird. The bug will bite the bird and die.
      It's only used if you know for sure your bird has bugs as it is a poison and is not safe to use as a preventative.

    How to treat (Loss of balance that affects canaries)

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 года назад

      It's best to go to an avian vet. It could be an ear infection, blindness or stroke or a neurological problem or something else.

  • @classicarabicinstruments6158
    @classicarabicinstruments6158 4 года назад

    You should isolate the bird forever , I lost many birds in spite of the treatment , as soon as you see te bird is thin you know that it will die, if it survives you should not put it back with others and treat all your birds , you can buy the mediation on line , if you want to check the bird mites take one perch from each cage one at the time during the day time and knock it on a white paper strongly if you see small dotes that is running then those are the mites it looks like a live dust then you need to treat everyone and change all the cages and then good luck ....

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 года назад

      Hi, air sack mites are not the same as red mites that you can find on the ends of the perches.
      One a bird is cleared from air sack mites it's fine to put with the others.
      Another mite is feather mites that eat the birds feathers.

    • @classicarabicinstruments6158
      @classicarabicinstruments6158 4 года назад

      @@Loveofpets no they both the same red or grey can affect the feather and can go inside the air sacs , and they do not eat the feather but they eat the blood from the skin of the birds or from the air sacs ,...... from skin they make a scaly skin and live inside the skin holes causing itch and a damage of the skin and feather roots then the bird starts scratch and pull more feather and causes more skin infections that can kill the bird , severe skin infection , severe anemia , then heart problems , and some can go inside the air sacs causing blocking and difficulty in breathing and lung damage and infections which will cause a heart problem and death , mites are all the same when they suck t blood they become red ,it is an awful disease !!!! If you rescue the bird in the early stage then it can survive , an some times they have mites and do not show any symptom and when they show symptom ( losing weight , difficulty in breathing, loosing a lot of feather ) then it is too late the medication will kill he mites but can not repair the damages in the lung and air sacs and the heart problems

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 месяца назад

      In some countries medication for mites can only be prescribed by vets. I want to share my knowledge and let others that they can take their Canaries and Finches to the vets, especially if they are not sure what's wrong with them. Just because they are affordable it does not mean that you shouldn't take them to the vets. I have birds that I didn't pay for go to the vets. It's a responsibility thing to do when you own pets.
