American Cemetery at Omaha Beach

This was a sobering experience. Near Omaha Beach is the cemetery where the known American casualties of the D-Day invasion are buried. The beach is largely back to being a beautiful natural place, with some monuments but the war artifacts long removed. Here the war artifacts, the fallen soldiers themselves, rest permanently. This was the price paid to get allied forces on the ground in France, which was the turning point of the European theater of WW2. The land of the cemetery is a permanent concession to the US in honor of those who gave their lives to take Normandy.
