  • Nationwide protests are taking place in Nigeria, as the country experiences its worst economic crisis in a generation.
Annual inflation is at its highest in almost three decades, with food prices having risen even faster.
The planned protests have commanded the Nigerian government’s attention.
President Bola Tinubu made an appeal through Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi, asking organisers to shelve the plan and urging them to be patient.

You correctly diagnosed the problem, but your solution is childish.
America is bigger than Nigeria. The problem is not our size, the problem is the economic structure.
If America practiced Nigeria's system, America would be a failed system like Nigeria.
There's a reason that one State in America is the 5th largest economy in the world! There's a reason America has stupendously, diverse economic opportunities that accommodates people from around the world.
Instead, Nigeria is practising an over-centralized system that equalizes all States, and nationalizes poverty.
The tragedy of Nigeria is that we have the example of US, Canada, Germany, to follow, yet we are doing the direct opposite, practicing a system that hinders advancement.

I have no clue how Nigeria has managed to completely fail at almost every level since it was founded. This is a failed state that has to be dissolved. It’s not working out. 64-years is enough time to see that this isn’t getting any better.

Very well spoken. Here are the demands mentioned.
    1. Reversal of the termination of fuel subsidy
    2. Reversal of electricity tarrif back to it's price in May 2023 level
    3. Reversal of Neoliberal Policy.
    4. Funding of Public education, not loans (I would add improving public education including paying teachers an actual living wage).
    5. Job creation
    6. Unemployment allowance (if they have to do this, they might actually improve Job creation.
    7. Fix the refineries and build new ones.
    8. Reversal of the failed Power sector privatization.
    9. Fix the economy. The country is wealthy, so why are the people poor. Stop the capitalist economic system and implement more socialist economic policies.
Am very happy to hear these demands. Nigerians are becoming more aware. I saw some governors gave food and grain. Food will not fix anything. You feed people for a few days, how will that change anything?
The problem unfortunately that we most times have in Nigeria is weakness of character. The government can pay off the leaders of the demonstration so that it completely stops. They can also send some thugs to loot and attack people leading to violence. I hope that doesn't happen.
