- Nationwide protests are taking place in Nigeria, as the country experiences its worst economic crisis in a generation.
Annual inflation is at its highest in almost three decades, with food prices having risen even faster.
The planned protests have commanded the Nigerian government’s attention.
President Bola Tinubu made an appeal through Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi, asking organisers to shelve the plan and urging them to be patient.

I am a Nigerian. Our leaders are evil, wicked and heartless.... What will they do with all the wealth they've stole from Nigeria.?
They have forgotten that one day they will turn to skeleton.
find out who owns your banks my friend and you will see who is behind it
Absolutely old African leaders are the direct offsprings of those who sold Africans into slavery. No to old African leaders

Despite the economic hardship Nigerian politicians still live extravagant and wasteful lifestyle.
Not only Nigeria. Kenyans had the same vice. Uganda is the same case and I believe Zimbabwe, Cameroon and any others have the same cry.
That's the most painful part. The leaders keep telling the citizens to keep enduring the hardship while they are sharing billions upon billions among themselves...very wicked people! I wonder if they are taking all these monies to hellfire where they belong to after death. No job, no good road, no 24hours electricity, no food, no good education, etc.
20 billion for building another house for vp, 90billion for Hajj, billions for jet, billions for yatch, they keep calling billions as if it is water! When the people they are governing cannot afford 2 square meals a day.... heartless people
The Government of Nigeria must Go Marines are on the way!

Excessive increase in fuel price, price of food, insecurities, inflation rate. You refine your crude oil abroad abandoning your local refineries. Nigeria will continue to face these if not divided into three. Nigeria is too big for all these older leaders to controllllllllllll.
Divided to 3 and by who ? And what is the rational behind these when you have over 250 ethnic groups??
No.. together you can be strong.. divided you will be even weaker. That's what the imperialists want. Wake up.
You correctly diagnosed the problem, but your solution is childish.
America is bigger than Nigeria. The problem is not our size, the problem is the economic structure.
If America practiced Nigeria's system, America would be a failed system like Nigeria.
There's a reason that one State in America is the 5th largest economy in the world! There's a reason America has stupendously, diverse economic opportunities that accommodates people from around the world.
Instead, Nigeria is practising an over-centralized system that equalizes all States, and nationalizes poverty.
The tragedy of Nigeria is that we have the example of US, Canada, Germany, to follow, yet we are doing the direct opposite, practicing a system that hinders advancement.

Very well spoken. Here are the demands mentioned.
1. Reversal of the termination of fuel subsidy
2. Reversal of electricity tarrif back to it's price in May 2023 level
3. Reversal of Neoliberal Policy.
4. Funding of Public education, not loans (I would add improving public education including paying teachers an actual living wage).
5. Job creation
6. Unemployment allowance (if they have to do this, they might actually improve Job creation.
7. Fix the refineries and build new ones.
8. Reversal of the failed Power sector privatization.
9. Fix the economy. The country is wealthy, so why are the people poor. Stop the capitalist economic system and implement more socialist economic policies.
Am very happy to hear these demands. Nigerians are becoming more aware. I saw some governors gave food and grain. Food will not fix anything. You feed people for a few days, how will that change anything?
The problem unfortunately that we most times have in Nigeria is weakness of character. The government can pay off the leaders of the demonstration so that it completely stops. They can also send some thugs to loot and attack people leading to violence. I hope that doesn't happen.
I thought they would be protest when election was manipulated by Mahmood but Nigerians kept mute. What do you expect?
