    Thank you for this video Dr. Grande. I cannot stress enough how helpful it is to have the visual along with the explanation of how to do the test and what the numbers mean. It begins to get overwhelming the more tests that are being shown throughout all the different videos, so having both visual and explanation helps ease the stress a little bit.

    While I have little experience with Excel and SPSS, I found the video presentation to be very informative. Dr. Grande provided a useful explanation of the material. I appreciated how he walks the viewer through the process of performing a t-test. With more practice and further discussion, I hope to strengthen my knowledge and abilities in this area.

    Paired Sample T-tests was one of the tests that I had learned a lot about in my undergraduate program. As I learn more and more about psychological statistics I have found that each instructor has a very different teaching style. I am much more of a visual learner and this helped refresh my memory of running a Paired Samples T-Test in SPSS.

    Great, straightforward video that shows how a T Test in SPSS calculates if there is a statistically significant difference in the means of the pretest and posttest data.

  • @angelinastanton7996
    @angelinastanton7996 6 лет назад

    The steps used are very helpful to compare differences between the pretest, posttest, and T-test results. It was amazing how the Excel chart calculated the mathematical formula after inputting numbers from the results in SPSS. Statistics scares me, but interpreting statistical data seems fun after watching this video. The steps were easy to follow and very straightforward, especially for beginners.

    I find it fascinating regarding the many ways one can use various tools to determine the results and efficacy of testing. I wish I knew more about it because It would greatly help me understand the "why" of things. As always, the videos help to gain a better understanding and are much appreciated!

    This is another reason that I am glad I watched the videos in order, because the concept of T-tests came up again, which I was confused about in earlier videos. I also like how it was related to pretests and posttests. I plan to use those in my research proposal so I think this would be a video worth saving.

    Wow, I had forgotten how much goes into, and how much you can get from, a T-test! What a valuable tool to interpret data. Looking at pre and post test data is vital to a research project because it shows the difference during the experiment. I don't think I will use pre and post tests for my research proposal, but I will definitely need to remember this in the future.

      I remember reviewing T-tests when I took an undergrad research course years ago. I did not think they were very important until after watching this video. I agree that it serves an extremely valuable purpose of highlighting the differences in the pretest and posttest. I think it is great that SPSS and Excel have the tools and formulas to help you calculate the data.

    It is obvious that using the paired samples T-test is excellent for calculating pre-tests and post-tests and comparing the scores. This is so applicable to the field of counseling (and our fictitious research proposal) because you can measure to see if there is a relationship or any implications in the effectiveness of the type of therapeutic technique used or measures administered.

    Just a note, I am not sure if this account is the same one I've been posing with. I know Firefox decided to add a really old picture of me for some reason so just in case, this is still Alicia Zahn, just posting from a different web browser that doesn't want to cooperate. That having been said, I liked this video. It was quick, easy, and highly applicable to the research paper. Pre and post test is something I am a strong supporter of in research because it adds to the strength of the results statistically and argumentatively. I thought this function was really easy since it is labeled as being a paired samples t-test in SPSS and therefore not hard to find. I also enjoyed the inclusion of the formula to get Cohen's D. I appreciate Dr. Grande sharing how to calculate it in Excel but I think a calculator would be my preference since it's a very simple formula.

What tests for assumptions do I need to conduct first to run this t-test?2. Sometimes the mean difference is negative because the pre-test score is lower. Due to the fact the pretest mean scores is lower than the posttest mean score? I noticed that my calculated effect size has a negative value. Does this mean that the treatment has had no effect?. I changed my data on IBM SPSS and put posttest-pretest I got the same values the change is that I had a positive value. Can one do that? as capture posttest first then pretest last?
