Recently discovered Faiz Sahib, now one of my favorite poets. *Mystic words sung by beautiful voice who aptly captures the cadence of superb composition, coupled with heart-wrenching visulas:* this video catches the soul on another level.
My favourite Pakistani singer. She is very close to one of my freind who is also a ghazal singer. I once asked my freind to introduce me with Fariha so that I let her know how great a fan I am of her singing.
During the Rawalpindi Conspiracy case, Faiz was arrested and was summoned to court several times. During the way to court, once the police car broke down, and they took Faiz to the court on Tonga, a horse carriage. Due to slow speed of Tonga, people started walking with Tonga, with Faiz still tied in Handcuffs. By the time the Tonga reached court, there was a quite a crowd with him, supporters and tamashbeen althogether. Faiz with his renowned patience and visual genius penned this experience in one of most loved and admired poems of Urdu, Aaj bazaar mein pa-ba joulaan chalo.
Faiz never wrote it for any particular group let alone for only the women & Benazir; mankind has suffered by the oppressors all the time. When a man is tortured & bleeds then his pains are mot any less painful than that of a woman. I agree that men have inflicted a lot of pain on women, and that has to be changed, it will one day, Faiz and I will have to wait.
There is not too many singers like Ms. Pervez who can sing any kind of song and make it special. I have heard her sing most beautiful songs presenting Dua to others. God bless her.
Although I don't understand most of the language, I think I understand the sentiments behind Faiz sahib's beautiful composition. And Fariha has done full justice in singing this. I love your voice, beautiful daughter Fariha.. May God Allah Waheguru give His Blessings to you! A request: could someone write the lyrics and English translation of this composition please? Thanks. - A Punjabi from Canada
Let us walk today in the bazaar in shackles, Moist eyes and a restless soul are not enough, Being charged for nurturing concealed love is not enough, Let us walk today in the bazaar in shackles, Walk, with your hands open before you, Walk, hand in hand, in ecstasy and joy, Walk, caked in dust, walk, with your shirtsleeves seeped in blood, Walk, as the city of my beloved awaits you, The city’s ruler and crowd of commoners, Hurled arrows of false charge, threw stones of accusation, The morning of sorrow, the day of failure, Who will be their friend now other than me? Who is untainted by sin in the city of beloved? Who deserves the killers or executioners hand? Get ready for the journey oh wounded heart, Take me to the gallows, the time for my execution has come.

Aaj Bazaar Main - Fariha Pervez sings Faiz Ahmed Faiz : This Gazal appeared in TV serial Kahkasan at least that's where I frist heard it was sung by Vinod Segal I think and music by Jagjit Singh I hate to compare both were good But Fariha Pervez is such a darling I would just say Beti giyo giyo.. and God make you successful as for the clip, I am to not sure could have been broadcasted in this form but if I am wrong and I hope I am wrong gives hope that things would change in Pakistan And one last thing leave Nayra Noor I like her too
The song was first sung by Nayyara Noor and composed by Arshad Mehmood in "Nayyara sings Faiz," that was produced for PTV at Faiz's request. Jagjit Singh probably did a cover later.
