Technical question on those transistors you are replacing. I have a 2nd hand RCD-955AX that was mis-tracking. Most of the forums said that those two transistors were the problem so I replaced them. However, my unit had a diode attached to the underside of the board to both transistors - a diode not shown in the circuit diagrams. Does yours also have these diodes? FYI, it is still mis-tracking after replacing the transistors.
Hey Steptoe and Son lol. This was a really interesting video. My player is a Marantz CD94 from 1990 with that chip and it delivers for me full on. However I always wondered if it would benefit from say a CD1 mech instead of the oomp. one in it (it's a special ed. model). Do u know that there is an amp builder on YT in Canada that has a biz up-specing cheaper integrated amps, Angela Gilbert Yeung (haha a tranny that builds amps) and it seems to be lucrative. So this could be a nice little earner as no-one is ever happy with what they have right? ;-D
Hello! While I'm a big fan of the all metal, swing arm CD mechanisms from the first Philips players, and I've lived with about 5 models, I'm not sure how compatible they would be with later dacs. The CDM0 with its cost no object Magnesium body and Zeiss optics laser was only ever used with the first 14 bit TDA1540 Dacs in the first generation players. The Marantz CD12 incorporates a slightly scaled back, but still impressive and all metal, CDM1 Transport was one of the first 16 bit players with high end mechanisms, prior to cost cutting. My own personal modded Marantz CD273 player uses the CDM4. So, in answer to your proposition, maybe? If you had the know how and the mechanisms were compatible? Also, I've never heard of Angela, we will be sure to check them out!
@@mydadsaysaudio6192 Angela Gilbert Yeung is a great amplifier builder. Their amps are all hand built by Angela Gilbert and will often carry 1 to 2 farads capacitance onboard and can have external capacitor banks added to up that. Their previous company was Blue Circle.
@ thanks for your reply. yeah that’s why it seemed an attractive idea but as I’m happy with the player it was one of those maybe someday if it stops working things :-D
great stuff...more please
Thanks for your positive message. We are glad you enjoyed the video. Part 2 covering the DAC will be posted in about a week.
The OMA of CD Transport's...!

Hey, thanks for your query. In answer to your question, my dad says his unit does not have those diodes.
@@mydadsaysaudio6192 I thought that someone may have added them as a solution to the mis-tracking issue. It didn't work.
