    Bud Grafting - Michelia Alba X propagation
    Growing Michelia Alba X or Magnolia x Alba also known as White Champaca, White Sandalwood, White Jade Orchid Tree, pak lan, ngoc lan
    Magnolia × alba is widely cultivated as an ornamental in Asia, particularly tropical and subtropical regions of China and Southeast Asia for the strongly fragrant flowers.[5] An essential oil is extracted from the flowers. In China, where it is known as bai lan (白蘭), the flowers are used to prepare yulan tea.[2] In traditional Chinese medicine, the flowers are used to move qi and relieve cough.

    Thanks for your informative content. What common magnolias can you graft Michelia Alba X onto ? I’m considering trying to try and root other magnolia from cuttings for this purpose.

      I only know michelia champaca is compatible with alba x. It might work with other magnolia but I am yet to experiment it. Good luck if you try it.

    I am having a yellow champaca more than 10 years but still haven’t seen any flowers! I read some articles and learn that this plant maybe grew from seed and need to be grafted! Is it true? Please advise how should I make this plant produces flowers? Thanks

    • @chauuc
      @chauuc  2 года назад +1

      The champaca can be grown from seed and it should be flowering around 6-7 years. The flower is orange color and smell very nice but not strong. Grafting purposes are to produce a hybrid flower and earlier flowering. Yours may be exceptional so there is no telling of when it will be flowered. I assumed your tree is nice and big, you could try to graft alba x to one of its branches and flower should be within 10 months if you're lucky.

    Have you tried growing golden/ orange champaca from seeds ? I am wondering how difficult it is compared to magnolia seeds. Since I would think grafting it will help flowering speed. Also can you cut the same plant and graft the same branch, and would that promote faster flowering ?

    What's the size of the container for grafted champaca?

    • @chauuc
      @chauuc  2 года назад +1

      I'd recommend a medium size, one that you can move it about if you needed to.

      Despite this tree popularity not many nursey stock them however some nursey can do a special order for you. A couple week ago I did spot one for sale from an Asian grocery store in Footscray CBD so maybe some Asian grocery store will have them as well.
