Bud Grafting - Michelia Alba X propagation
Growing Michelia Alba X or Magnolia x Alba also known as White Champaca, White Sandalwood, White Jade Orchid Tree, pak lan, ngoc lan
Magnolia × alba is widely cultivated as an ornamental in Asia, particularly tropical and subtropical regions of China and Southeast Asia for the strongly fragrant flowers.[5] An essential oil is extracted from the flowers. In China, where it is known as bai lan (白蘭), the flowers are used to prepare yulan tea.[2] In traditional Chinese medicine, the flowers are used to move qi and relieve cough.
Please share the video in detail how to grafted with the bud and which month?
Thanks for your informative content. What common magnolias can you graft Michelia Alba X onto ? I’m considering trying to try and root other magnolia from cuttings for this purpose.
I only know michelia champaca is compatible with alba x. It might work with other magnolia but I am yet to experiment it. Good luck if you try it.
@@chauuc thank you again for your great videos. Planted my alba x in the ground and gave it a mini green house since it gets cold in the winter, in san francisco. I will try to find a michelia champaca somewhere haha how did you come to acquire growing a lot of michelia champaca for grafting.
@@marcusleeart1736 Obsession. When I see a good price for them, I bought the lot.

I'm thinking about grafting a white champaca branch onto a yellow champaca tree. Would this work?
It should work. Good luck.
So beautiful. I just bought a tree. What do you use to fertilizer your beautiful tree?
At the moment I do not use fertiliser. ruclips.net/video/4M7S9NKfITA/видео.html
I am having a yellow champaca more than 10 years but still haven’t seen any flowers! I read some articles and learn that this plant maybe grew from seed and need to be grafted! Is it true? Please advise how should I make this plant produces flowers? Thanks
The champaca can be grown from seed and it should be flowering around 6-7 years. The flower is orange color and smell very nice but not strong. Grafting purposes are to produce a hybrid flower and earlier flowering. Yours may be exceptional so there is no telling of when it will be flowered. I assumed your tree is nice and big, you could try to graft alba x to one of its branches and flower should be within 10 months if you're lucky.
Have you tried growing golden/ orange champaca from seeds ? I am wondering how difficult it is compared to magnolia seeds. Since I would think grafting it will help flowering speed. Also can you cut the same plant and graft the same branch, and would that promote faster flowering ?
No. We need different plants branch which plant is already producing flowers
I see thank you for sharing. :)
Hi how long did it take for your Michelia Champaca to flower?
10 months, hopefully I will post a video of the flower soon.
What's the size of the container for grafted champaca?
I'd recommend a medium size, one that you can move it about if you needed to.
Which month?
Hi, where are you located? The plant looks good
Hi, I am in Melbourne, Australia. You? ruclips.net/video/4M7S9NKfITA/видео.html
Do you know where is sold? Thanks
Despite this tree popularity not many nursey stock them however some nursey can do a special order for you. A couple week ago I did spot one for sale from an Asian grocery store in Footscray CBD so maybe some Asian grocery store will have them as well.
