Hi--I checked with a physician I know at the VA and here is the reply. I hope this is helpful: A veteran who receives care at the VA should discuss this concern with his PCP and request a screening for dementia. If there are concerns about the results on a screening test, he can be referred for more extensive evaluation.

I am 74 yrs. old. In the last 6 months, I have noticed a definite decline in very short-term memory. I am 100% disabled from having served in VietNam. Therefore, I am 100% insured by the VA and they have done a great job taking care of my health. I am definitely scared of getting Alzheimer's or some sort of dementia. Do you work with the VA to work with people showing signs of Alzheimer's.
