If politicians had to live just one month each year on the minimum wage or benefits, they'd quickly learn some brutal life lessons.

The same thing is happening here in the US. The price of EVERYTHING from food, gas, rent, houses, healthcare is sky high & people are really suffering. Wages have never kept up with rising costs & it’s even worse now. I’m in New England & sleepy little towns with nothing going for them have seen home values increase 50% or more since 2020! Some big cities have seen home values double! New England has brutal winters & my energy bill now is 3x what it was last year. It’s scary to think what the future holds for the everyday man & woman!

If you’re a prospective first-time homebuyer hoping (or praying) home prices will decline in 2022, don’t count on it. If people are waiting for a price to decline, well, it’s not going to happen. Heading into the spring of 2022, mortgage rates have increased over a full percentage point and while purchase demand has cooled, it remains firm. Supply remains near record lows, so home price growth is expected to remain high through the spring homebuying season before cooling off later this year as mortgage rates continue to rise.
Investing in REITs will be a right decision as it's also included in a growing number of defined-benefit and defined-contribution investment plans

Greatly said! lnvesting in REITs can play an important part in an lnvestment portfolio because they can offer a strong, stable annual dividend and the potential for long-term capital appreciation. REIT total return performance for the last 20 years has outperformed the S&P 500 Index, other indices, and the rate of inflation

@Colombo Evelyn Entering an investment on your own can occasionally require much more specialized knowledge. Deciding between debt and equity implies a considerably advanced level of investment knowledge. I'll suggest you get a financial professional with intelligent strategies who'll help you create a suitable plan to maximizing potential performance and minimizing risk.

I'm 32, not married, no children and with all the taxes they from my paycheck and salary not increasing, I'm grateful that I am very disciplined with my spending but I do think the situation is scary. I compared our weekly food bill (from a major supermarket). I tend to buy the same stuff so I could compare it easily. Novembre 2019 : £45.35. last week £56. Given some differences of purchases that's still about 25% increase. Absolutely shocking!

Do not fully beleive this people. Inflation and price hikes were already happening before the pandemic, which increases during and now Ukraine. So the root cause is inflation. Learn about how fractional banking, fiat money and how the central banks work. Losing our ability to manufacture what we use is critical why we have supply chain issues which causes increase in prices

(Just an American’s opinion, as it's happening here too) The amount you have to pay in a tax bracket always goes up. The cost of insurance, the cost of living always goes up. Why doesn't the minimum number of the bracket ever get adjusted upwards too? Ex. If everybody’s wage will be in the first-third tax bracket it wasn't like that back, then to have a living wage. Why do we have to go through that many brackets now?

While the cost of living increase the government are spending over 2.5 billion pounds a year on housing illegal immigrants in hotels across the uk at the expense of the tax payer. This is illegal human trafficking made legal which helps transfer tax pounds into the pockets of the lose involved in human trafficking. Over the next year or so the bill for human trafficking will rise costing the uk tax payer closer to three billion pounds a year.

Not being flippant here because we do it, but it's time to start reusing tea leaves and foregoing milk. I can get four cups of tea from a few teaspoons of green tea. I put ginger in it, from my garden.
Breakfast is one scrambled egg from the hens and fried potato and a bit of onion, from the garden. Lunch is a free soup made with scraps that might be tossed by some--we save the scraps in the freezer. Dinner could be a lovely Thai inspired coconut curry made with peanut butter, chickpeas, vegetables, and secret spices served over Basmati rice (6 servings for less than 33 cents USD per serving), with cole slaw in Asian dressing on the side. Dessert would be homemade brownies or chocolate chip cookies.
Other nights we might stretch a can of salmon in a salmon loaf and use the broth in a salmon soup. Or I'll make a large batch of salmon patties from two cans (reserving the broth for soup) and freezing the patties for quick meals. The salmon patties are good with a maple-blueberry reduction sauce or in a home baked bun with spinach, onion, and tomato from the garden. I like to slightly dehydrate and freeze chopped red tomatoes from the garden to put a diced tomato relish on the bun in the winter.
There are so many ways to stretch the food budget. Some just need a little extra prep. Don't pay corporations to prep your food!

Same in the US!!!! Since Covid-19 the rent and home buying prices have sky rocketed! Just 4/5 years ago I paid $720 for a 2/1 bath home in a not so nice neighborhood w/mediocre schools. That same neighborhood similar homes are $ 1400! How? Since 2021 the average rent prices are $1400-$1600 for basic homes…not nice neighborhoods with great schools. Decent neighborhoods are $2200 for RENT! Its nearly impossible to afford a roof over your head for the average person.

No one can say we have not been warned about this for some time! Most people have, as usual, totally ignored it, I have been advising anyone who would listen for a considerable time now to stock up on dried foods such as rice, peas, beans pulses and pasta.Powdered milk and tinned foods are essential. Make sure you have plenty of powdered gravy mixes in stock to add flavour to your soups and stews, Sure its not everyone's cup of tea but it stops you from starving ! We are in for a very hard time folks trust me. We have had a considerable time to build up supplies but most people as usual have their heads stuck firmly up their arses! Another good idea is to dig out grandma's old cookery books and begin educating yourselves on survival tequniques ! Very nourishing and tasty curries can be made from dhall's and pulses, and the dried stuff lasts for years! Stock up on tinned meat, frozen fish and tinned fruit, this will sustain you when everything else is out of reach.
It's amazing how much fresh food you can grow in a small space!
Things such as toilet paper will become scarse as paper Mills begin closing down due to the huge increase in gas prices as most Mills depend wholly on gas to power the Mills.
Well done to all those out there who have heeded the advice, stay safe and healthy!

Its been rising for years. Its the system that we live in. As well as the rapid rises caused by Global events, we have rises in response to pay increases. The more money we earn the more companies put their prices up. Its a vicious circle. But its the position the Government keep us in, we cant all be well off because you lose workforce motivation. However, the gap between lower wage jobs and cost of living has become so big, that they now have to constantly allow Immigrants here, (legal or illegal it doesn't matter), to do those lower paid jobs because most of us cant afford to do them. The cheapest accommodation available just to keep a roof over your head (room in a shared house) is now barely affordable on minimum wage, so where do we go from here?

The heating will be turned off. We need to buy blankets, jumpers and candles. I refuse to give the gas company any more of my money. Shop at Aldi, or Lidl and make your money stretch.

I know this isn't government help but some ideas if you are cold emergency blankets they are cheap (sold online also) they work by not letting out 90% of anything (heat/air) out so you can use them to wrap yourself in if you're cold especially the little ones. You can also use the emergency blankets to insulate your windows and doors its not pretty but it will help. As far as not having gas for the stove you can get a slow cooker or an airfryer or an electric cook top they sell ones that are smokeless indoor grills which work well, also, I don't know what the laws are but you can cook meals outside on a grill with charcoal and bulk cook them. If you can't get an emergency blanket regular plastic bags and duct tape will help fill gaps along windows and doors, (aluminum foil will also help small holes and gaps). It's not ideal but I hope this helps someone.

There was nothing, absolutely zero help for older women like myself who have no family support and on very low income. I despair at this heartless government. With all the bills going up and no increase in income the very least they could do is to give us a proper reduction in the energy bill that is NOT a loan to be repaid. Take away the MPs salary rise and ask them to donate their £300 daily expenses to this crisis!!! Surely the government can do more?!!

Britain is basically paying for a seat to be seen on the world stage, while the public heating bills skyrocket and the cost of living becomes unbearable for 5 million people and ministers are busy taking underhand payments from millionaires friends, and oligarchs.

It’s not just the UK , the US cost of living is crazy.. I paid $20 not including tax for a box of masks in Chicago .. in the suburbs it’s $8 not including tax.. gas in the city is almost $5 and suburbs it’s just a dollar off.. minimum wage ain’t cutting it, how do they expect people to pay their bills?! Can you imagine how many more homeless people there are now? A rise in crime? Government what are y’all doing?! No F’s given

Some things that will cut down your costs of living
    - use a bike/public transport instead of a car. or just walk if you are not in a rush
    - cut down on snacks
    - eat 2 meals a day instead of 3. cut breakfast or lunch. (this is if you are an adult - for teens and children eat as usual but minus the snacks)
    - cut down the alcohol or cut it out altogether
    - buy only clothing that you need and when you do buy something make sure it's a high-quality piece that will last you forever.
    - do not order food
    - make homemade meals
    - layer clothing at home instead of using the heater. only switch it on when you are taking a shower and need to stay warm

Britain, yesterday's global empire, is not even able to provide a decent and comfortable life to all its people. It's heart breaking to see old people worrying about what to choose - food or warmth! Free market economy thrives at the cost of ordinary people.

i have an idea that could help solve the rising cost of living
Which is we grow mushrooms on trays stacked on top of each other because mushrooms
Our the perfecting candidate for it because if you were going to do it with cabbages for example
The roof of each tray would block out the sunlight for the cabbages below however if you
Do it with mushrooms you won't have that problem because most mushrooms don’t need sunlight And if a lot of people do it can bring down the cost of food worldwide because of supply and demand
