As a person without kids and not on disability, there's no help
I received no stimulus money. I just pay taxes for the government to had out to others.
All my friends who made poor choices in life (having children they couldn't afford by multiple people, getting apartments they can't really afford, driving cars they struggle to pay for...boy oh boy they get anything they want in life. I've chosen to buy my house first (which I have) and look to be married first...it feels like I'm being punished

Yeah I was surprised they wanted to go that route when their income is not high enough for any lender to give them a mortgage. They need to solve their income problem
Bread machines at thrift stores and yard sales are very cheap. She can make gluten free bread in bigger loaves and way less than buying it. You can also make oat milk very cheaply and save the store pricing.

I am also gluten free and dairy free. I simply dont eat bread, akd i dont purchase expensive dairy substitutes. Why dont people get this???
My neighbors started stealing my water when I go to work. My water bill has doubled in the last few months. I bought some outside water faucet locks to stop the theft. I guess they decided to deal with the cost of living by becoming common criminals!
They should collect rainwater instead

Did Steph remind her that her husband working for Uber means he isnt making any money at all -- while the "money every night" is nice for desperate people, you can easily put 20-40,000 miles on your car per year doing Uber, accelerating the maintenance costs on that car and necessitating the buying of a new/used car much earlier than you planned?

I have never understood why vacations and Christmas presents are even in peoples minds when they are having a hard time paying bills. We finished paying our mortgage on 24/12/21 and that was our Christmas present to ourselves. Before that we hadn’t had a vacation in over five years.
Never had a credit card in my 50+ years and after getting into debt on $5.000 loan, and paying it off in my early twenties, I vowed no bank was going to get my hard earned cash in those kind of bank fees ever again. My credit score is in the 900’s and hasn’t dipped below that range in over twenty years.
I know it’s hard when you have kids, to not want to give them what they want at Christmas, but if more people sat down with their kids and did research on budgeting and savings tips , instead of the latest expensive gadgets, then a lot of kids would grow up with a healthier attitude towards money. If you give your child an allowance, there apps geared to children that show them about money management and which you can view to see how they are doing. They are never too young to learn these type of life skills.

I Downsized my life since the 2008 RECESSION!...I LIVE my life SIMPLE but nice, DEBT free , Spirtual, Healthy!.....I constantly live on a budget!...I only have myself and my Pomeranian dog ....I pay my car insurance every 6 months.....And pay rent, food, lights, household items each month. Thank God my 2011 Kia RIO is in mint condition, well maintained, just hit about 67,000 miles, and NO issues!...over the 10 years I've had it, I only had to buy tires, belts, sensor, spark plugs and coil pack, yearly oil changes!...
I don't have no one to really guage how much is too much car insurance. Is 240/month too much and what the benefit of paying semiannual rather than annually? Hope you or anyone can help.

I pay every 6 months...but definitely not that much!...THE benefit of paying every 6 months for me , is that I'm not paying that extra monthly fee, I don't have to worry about insurance payments every month, it's paid!..... ALSO paying every 6 months allows extra room to save a little, AND adjust to extra money that might be needed for that month ....(lights, water, food, etc)

am car free, save loads by not having a car, not having a pet with vets bills etc, and paid off my mortgage. Living simply certainly helps.

Instead of paying for cloud storage, get an external hard drive. You can store a ton of photos and all your critical documents.
thumb drives are relatively cheap and can serve this purpose, but you may have to buy several depending on how many pictures you have.
occasionally going through and deleting all duplicate pictures, "fluff" pictures or no longer useful pictures before I offload them onto drives.

Cut the credit cards up , save for everything you want , look for free stuff , look at goods that are imperfect but work , swop clothing with family and friends , buy goods that are reduced in bulk if its something you need and use , have a jar for change , pay with cash ,

I dont advocate paying with cash. Use credit card to build credit history so later you can get loans to purchase car or homes. Credit cards even save money by offering cash back.
Credit cards can be used to save money, but they have to be used:
>sparingly
>carefully
>intelligently
If you can’t do *ALL 3* of these at the same time, 24/7, you should use cash-only. It will force you to be more thrifty and frugal.

Yeh, really. I had no sympathy for either one of these examples. The first woman had arms on her like a SUMO Wrestler. She obviously has not missed a meal in her life. That little girl of hers may have non-verbal "autism," but she also can cry or whimper to get anything she wants. How is that, for non-verbal? Then the other lady, both her and her husband are schoolteachers. They are not doing without anything. The chicken being $17. Quit buying chicken. You notice she did NOT GO WITHOUT the chicken, just because it was TOO HIGH. Goes to the store EVERY WEEK for GROCERIES. Who does THAT? I go once every 3 months, if I am lucky. It's just crazy.
They are paycheck to paycheck with a small special needs child. Their budget was bare bones. Literally nothing to cut back on. A SECURED credit card was great advise. That's how me and lots of others have built credit in a short amount of time. You literally can't go wrong with it
It looks like the first couple needs some more discipline in other areas as well.
She should get a prescription from the pediatrician for special breads/foods through wic.

Sorry , I realized the cost of living when I graduated college and moved out of my parents house. Gasoline reached $1 a gallon and my parents, friends, Co workers flipped out

I'm not saying that this mom can't make the gluten free bread, but let's be willing to think this through.
Even if she could afford to buy the equipment to make this bread, she still may have several obstacles that no one is accounting for.
- Time: her special needs child is probably very energetic and for her daughter's safety, she may not be able to preoccupy herself with bread making. At her daughter's age, she may only take one nap a day and not for more than an hour. That's not alot of time to do anything.
- children with autism often have sensory issues like tactile sensitivity that could make preparing healthy food especially difficult for children who already have allergies. Her daughter may reject the homemade bread because the texture is different from store brand bread.
There are other examples but this should suffice. Let's try to be compassionate

Food banks are a brilliant government installation designed to steal food from the hungry and kind-natured.
People contribute through taxes and donations, then when someone comes to them in need, they’re mysteriously “out of food” or you do not qualify for food.
Find and give food directly to needy people. Do *not* give to beggars, who will use it to remain on their substances and avoid working for a living.
Do not give donations to the government. They do NOT help people who actually need/deserve help or use taxes to benefit people who are without money.
When families are forced to cutback, more people will loose their jobs in the service & retail industries as they cut down on eating out & forego big-ticket & the unnecessary spending.
The service, retail, and entertainment industries would never have become so bloated Ike everyone was paying cash.
True it’s a catch 22- but what choice do they have ! I’m in Ireland and cut back on take away into once a month to now never and even that was a budget €20 month but that pays my prepay phone instead .

Let's face facts. It takes a two person income to sustain a household. Also, if you are barely making it, have debt, and no emergency fund; reconsider your choice to have a child right away.
They are focusing on repairing the credit score so that they may qualify for a home. This is a huge mistake. They need to First attain Financial stability.
Yup, and they really need to increase their income. No bank will loan you the money to buy a house without a liveable wage for a family first.
She should apply for wic. It’s a program that helps low income families who are working get vouchers to by food for their children up to the age five. Cereal, oatmeal drinks I know that she has special food needs but maybe with WIC she maybe able to buy at least some of her precious daughter foods. Also apply for food stamps that would help to pay for her daughter special foods.

First and foremost her husband works his butt off and is paying more in taxes than they would get in food stamps and if it helps her feel less anxious snap now puts the food stamps on cards that look like credit or debit cards that a lot of people use now and now I believe big warehouse places like Costco and BJs where things can be brought in bulks to save money accept snap and also Whole Foods maybe others also accept snap. I want to point out that I live in New York and this information about snap is from how things are done in New York.

Don’t think prepper princess goes without now,heard she was a millionairess.
We are two seniors; age 72 and 78 and on a fixed income. My husband has CMT, neuropathy and severe mobility issues and is still working three days a week to help us make ends meet. We make too much to be eligible for much of anything and not enough to keep paying for our healthcare and medical needs on our own. What has helped us the MOST has been keeping a strict monthly budget that we stay on and reconciling that budget EVERY SINGLE month! This tells us exactly where the money is going and allows us to make the best choices possible. Our biggest expense is our medical care that is not covered by Medicare or our BCBS insurance (that we pay for each month.) .My husband has needed two dental crowns this year at $1,400 each, he has mobility and feet issues and needed custom orthodotics as well. Those ran $500.00 and we both had our big annual medical appointment (after two years of having only on-line medical appts. during COVID. That appointment with our physician and the supplements we need for our particular health issues cost us $345. EACH-all out of pocket. We also had to have a hole in the wall where the crapes pulled down the curtain rod fixed and that was $200.00 alone. I also paid $49.00 to have our a./c unit serviced (pre heat and humidity season.) This means over $1,500 cash out of pocket going out this month alone (not counting the dental crowns.) We do not eat out, we do not take vacations or trips, we drive a 2012 Subara (that I paid $3,00 last year to have the engine redone AND i USE a $24.00 a month on my flip phone and we have no Cabler TV. We monitor every penny we spend and still we know that my husband's IRA savings will be gone in 6 years.) (he will be just age 84 then) and mine will be gone in 8 years ( i will be just age 80 and we worry...

they're on the taxpayer's dime; the money flow _never_ stops for them.
also, politicians can often vote themselves and their employees/aides a payroll raise whenever they wish (provided they're in fed) and nobody will notice, because it's concealed in 2000-4000 page bills that only attorneys have the time, money, and patience to read through.
What I do is prep plan my paydays ahead of time in a binder. When the money comes in, I open the binder and put the money exactly where it was planned to go.
Have these people never heard of a budgeting app?

Mom, needs to help out with making money. She needs to get an online job that she can work at home where she can set her hours so she can still care for her daughter.

That is nothing in Canada those chicken wings would be over 20 dollars.
8 boneless skinless chicken thighs run 12 to 14 dollars, a whole small chicken raw is 15 to 16 dollars in Canada and bone in chicken thighs easily 16 dollars for 9 in a pack.
I knew years ago that you never planned a budget that didn't leave you at least 30% of net income . Not gross that means nothing
They need to increase their income by her getting a job on the weekends and a couple of evenings when the husband gets off work, so that someone is always home with the child. Or house hacking with an elderly person or couple who don't want to go to a nursing home but are not safe alone at home. Some have large homes. They will take in a small family to live for free and even pay the wife as a care assistant. 2 problems solved. No bills to pay and a new source of income for the wife. Just post an advertisement in your local church, grocery store and medical offices.

It would be very difficult to meet the needs of an autistic toddler and provide elderly care. Have you ever done that? It would be a nightmare.

She should apply for In home support services as her daughter’s caregiver to get paid for supporting her daughter, since he is unable to go into the workforce due to her daughters challenges.
It`s a parent`s responsibility to care for their children, not the government`s.

I work in social services and I know what’s out there. like it or hate it that’s what it is,and she can utilize that program because she is unable to go into the workforce because of her child challenges. @@ampersand. It's beyond the care a typical child would require. If she qualifies for it, it's because they would qualify for outside help due to the level of needs. It's a social responsibility to provide for the most vulnerable in society. I hope you never have to experience being disabled in America.

I've rationed my food spending and eating. I now only eat once a day, and losing weight. Sometimes being poor is good for your health. Bread is not that healthy. You can survive without eating bread. I think people need to learn how to cook healthy meals. Once you learn how to do that, it is very easy to cut back on your food choices.
Did you truly just advise that the answer to the cost of living crisis is eating once a day?
You do realize eating only one meal a day leads to malnutrition and future health problems down the road. The human body was not meant to survive on that amount of food. No amount of willpower or positive thinking will change that.
Just look up on the concentration camps and see how one meal a day worked for all their workers.
I only eat twice a day now, breakfast at about 6am and lunch/dinner at about 3pm and I’m never hungry and I’m also losing weight 😊

I eat once a day too. Not for the cost but it's so healthy. I've managed to reverse insulin resistance. I have kids so I still have to feed them.
My husband is bedridden.im his full time caregiver. I have a broken back a female problem and can't see out of one eye.and I'm running a ranch.with live stock.they are old horses and a old mule.everything cost too much.cant afford to live.
my mother runs a stables and she is elderly and has a hip op, fortunately she gets someelse to manage it, and we don't have horses anymore, other people bring the horses and look after themselves, she lets out stables, livery

i agree, esay way into debt,same with dogs, and huge vets bills, less stuff is a lot better. I don't have kids or dogs and paid my mortgage off early

Why don't they talk about the greed of landlords? In my area, rents have gone up 30% with zero justification of why it's more than inflation.

@@tradeprosper5002 , lucky you, you may have had a newer house and good tenants. I’ve been a landlady for 20 years, and maintenance and repair costs are insanely expensive now. Just paid nearly $5K to have a load test done for my fire escape. I didn’t mention how property taxes, insurance, utilities, etc went up a lot as well. I’ve kept rents low for years, I can’t do it anymore without the risk of losing my home.

She might be able to work at a daycare, & take her daughter with her. The daughter could then get to play with other kids. That would work, unless the other kids bully the daughter. If that's the case, perhaps she could babysit someone else's child at home, or make something and sell it on Etsy? Stuff on Etsy, isn't cheap.

I used to be an Early Childhood Educator, in order to work in a day care one must attend college for Early Childhood Education, here in Ontario, Canada that is a 2 year course.
I quit my day care job years ago because the day care fees would mean I would work for pennies.

This is why I stayed single, stayed employed, stayed out of debt. It's comforting to have a good amount in the bank, have no debt, and just wait things out. I'm 57 and I feel lucky in the position I'm in. Yes it gets lonely, but I have no stress if an emergency arises since I can pay cash. Only real adjustment I made was going to 3 days a week workwise. I love my job, and would like to remain there at least another 10 years.
People like a good credit score , makes them think it's allright to borrow more . Only snowballs with time

Two can live as cheaply as one, so those of us who are retired and live alone often have far greater challenges, than families, especially if we are living on Socia Security. Being a Mindful Prepper, is how I mitigate shortages and inflation. It is my emergency stash that is always there as a safety net. I already use it, which helps pay for unexpected expenses which seem to happen more often than not, even though I shop Grocery Outlet, and 'REDUCED' bins. 95% of everything else is bought used, but in excellent condition, I maintain and repair everything.
Buying a home without any savings will be a real success. They will never come out of their debts, After decades they have no home instead they just payed the bank. I never will unterstand how americans believe they can buy a home no matter about their financial background. Single income I mean how??? how do you people think you will pay for a home??

Those balance transfers are tricky, what they don't tell you is that if you don't pay off the balance while you have that zero apr, they can tack on ALLLLL of the interest at the end of the introductory period
You need to just keep that balance without adding any additional purchases and pay off the whole balance by no later than the last day of the introductory period. So that card is used for only balance transfer. Do all other shopping using other cards.
They do tell you that. Read the agreement.
If you know how to handle your finances your good to use them

Yes, people are ruthless I agree. I think they are just mad and exhausted and feel powerless. Let them have the platform to rant. People are taking out their frustration on other people instead of questioning why we are all living like this. People are honest! After living in countries where people starve to death in the streets, I find these complaining families ridiculous. They waste money in ridiculous ways on crap they won't remember 1 year from now. Asian immigrants get rich. Why? They skimp and endure for 10 years, pay cash for things, start businesses and then live The American Dream. Native born Americans live as if they were rich, building a house of cards using credit, and end up slaves. Our grandparents understood the value of frugality and endless hard work. We are all, almost without exception, pampered over indulged brats.

What amazes me is that recently my husband has been having to work overtime 10 hours a week. But we embrace it because it pays time and a half. YET, half of the people (the same ones that complain that they don’t make enough) don’t show up that extra 10 hour shift 😮🤪

There Are other parts of a chicken that are much much more economical. Many families have to think outside the box. Vavaction?? Whats a vacation? Only got 1-2 as a child, my mom& dad were busy working so we could live roof over our heads, food in table & in fridge no time or money for a vacation! Im 55 only been on a pcoupkenif vacations in my life, last obe 5/6 years ago was with my mom, my cousin& her retured husband, we vusited 1 or2 of my adult children, my son was going to svhool near the beach, ge called & asked me to bring him his lunch box & water jug( 5 gallon). We riad tripped stated night at a travel trailer park in my cousins sleeps 5 travel/ camping trailer. a mile or so from the beach. We had fun saw a lot & spent very little on food & gas( we shared the fuel bill & park fees.😊.
Vacations cost too much and they are exhausting to prepare for and recover from. I prefer 'Staycations' with super pampered self love. A couple days here and there in the year and you're good to go!
sounds a of fun, we didn't have expenisve hols either about 3 in my childhood, camping, trip to visit relatives and a riding holiday which was a bit o f a luxury to be honest. I still love camping in a tent 50s
