Their song, “Chlorine” speaks to what you were referring to in your comments. It’s the music that cleans his psyche while it can be toxic in quantity. Very cool. The way these guys compose, construct and also perform and deliver their music is really unique and out of the box. And yes, he has lots of songs where some parts of his rapping feel just like earlier Eminem. Try a live one, "Holding On To You" live at Fox Theater is a great perfromance and the music is just a brilliant mess like only these guys can pull of.
Tyler Joseph is a genius, every little thing has a meaning and a thought. I have never ever been so impressed by a musician, lyricist and mental picture creator as I am with him.

Have you heard about the trilogy videos? Their last album TRENCH is a concept album with a full rich story. Three songs there have videos, a trilogy, that's fantastic. It's like the album is a book with each song like a chapter. And the 3 videos are the movie. And the storyline is fully fleshed out (and of course the story is metaphorical representing a much deeper meaning. Of course..as everything with them is deeper meanings!!) So anyway i'll list the 3 videos below IN THE ORDER that you have to watch. Also there's a prequel video from the prior album that you have to watch first. Also before those 4 videos i would recommend watching other songs first to get a better understanding of tyler's messages etc..so that the trilogy will make more sense. For example.. you'll find the videos from their BLURRYFACE album shows his neck and hands painted black. It's to represent his insecurities about his singing (neck) and his songwriting (hands). Well, in the trilogy you see the bad guy mark Tyler's neck black. Now if you just watched the trilogy without learning these things beforehand then you don't understand what the heck is going on. So i strongly suggest you first enjoy their music from before the TRENCH album. The prior album BLURRYFACE you'll learn that Blurryface is a character representing his insecurities, the bad guy in his psyche, which is represented in the videos with the color red (and the bad guys in trilogy have red robes). Excellent review of his lyrics!! Yes he's plagued with unwanted upsetting thoughts...not really a migraine...the migraine is just a metaphor. And he's so genius with all the metaphors. ("up down sideways" refers to the cross..."letters by my bed" means the bible..."above my throat behind my face" means his mind...and if you study the lyrics more you find just so many metaphors). All their music is so rich with deep meaning. AND it's not just the lyrics- the music is fantastic too. Tyler is self taught on the piano, ukulele, base guitar, synthesizer, and recently he learned the electric guitar! So he's incredible. Genius song writer both in lyrics and instrumental melody. AND you'll find that they don't fit into any specific genre..they do all kinds of styles. Rock rap reggae ballad etc etc AND the songs themselves have several styles in the same song. Just when you think you're listening to rap song the song changes to rock. It's crazy but so well done. AND his vocals are incredible his voice can go anywhere...from high to low...raspy to soft..and he's awesome in screaming. Sometimes he'll scream in a song and it's fantastic. I personally never like screaming in a song but when he does it (like in CAR RADIO) it's so perfect and with emotion. And man he can rap. You'll see some songs he raps so fast it's fire. And the drummer Josh is awesome on the drums. Oh you can tell how much i love this band. I can't wait to seeing more reactions from you on them. You're in for quite a journey!

So I don't know if this song is literally about dealing with migraines, but the way he describes them definitely feels like he's dealt with them in some form or the other. I deal with Chronic migraines and they are completely dehabilitating. It's something we don't really address or discuss in society enough to normalize them. People still think they're just 'bad headaches." I really wish there was more references or open discussion about them.
