    Toyota Service manual says jiggle valve at 6 o’clock position. Had mine at 12 and ran 190deg + By putting it at 6, temps dropped 10deg+ Going with what Toyota recommends.
    I never knew a thermostat could be longer!! That’s some good info sir!!!👍🏼👍🏼

      Definitely! I think there's a notation in the video to always go with what the manual recommends. Thanks for posting.

      So which one is it in the Toyota manual; 12 or 6 o'clock?🤔

    • @rallypoint1
      @rallypoint1 Месяц назад +1

      @@dmironyuk Toyota says 6 o’clock. Difference is huge in temps. I know it’s weird and the opposite of most cars.

      @@rallypoint1 thanks for confirming that, Toolman Timmy says the same if you check'm out on here. Guess I'll be doing that to👍

    I always use genuine toyota parts when possible. That green coolant probaly isn't the best idea long term. Great video. I always put the jiggle at 12 o'clock like you stated.

      Agreed on OEM. But mixing green and orange coolant is not recommended. The truck came with green coolant in the 90s, and still had green coolant when we bought it last year. It's not worth the risk to me to try to flush all the green stuff out and replace with orange because if they mix, it can gel up and clog the water jacket. It runs well with green coolant and if changed at correct intervals there should be no issues

    Yea my mechanic put my jiggle valve 12 o clock.. air rises so it makes sense.

    My guess before watching; your thermostat temp is not OE temp.

    never changed a thermostat before, do I need to buy a gasket for my 1998 4Runner or just the thermostat and replace it?

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  2 месяца назад

      Best to get a new gasket, the black rubber kind that stretches around the thermostat. Make sure it fits the thermostat before leaving the auto parts store

    I have a 2.7 4 cylinder I wonder if it’s the same one? 1998

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  4 месяца назад

      Not sure. The one in video is the 6 cyl . You could check the website and see if it gives a different part number based on engine size for that model year.

    Brother, since you did it twice in 24 hours. Did you reused the same coolant?

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, absolutely reused the same coolant from the day before, it was perfectly clean with no contaminants.

      @@KeithBlade cool Ty. I need to change my thermostat position. I just put in a new radiator and coolant like a week ago so I’m reusing mine to then. 👊🏽

      @@tommyhenriquezkayakangler8465 The main thing is when it drains from the radiator make sure that area down there is very clean so it's not picking up dirt as it drips off the bottom of the car, into your container. I sometimes pour mine through a paper coffee filter to catch any contaminants or dirt that fell in during the drain process.

    Jiggle valve goes up, it helps with the purging of the air from the system. These cars dont have bleed valves like others so this helps.

    Going to try tomorrow for my 1998 SR5 without working heat. Any thoughts?

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  3 месяца назад

      Thats not always related to a thermostat, theres other things involved in the heater. If your engine runs cold and never warms up properly, it could be a thermostat. If it hasn't been replaced in years it's a good idea to replace it anyway.

      Is your engine getting to operating temperature? If the motor get hot but you have no heat, i would look at flushing the heater core.

      Stuttering how? Like a fuel misfire issue or does it feel like the tranny is sluggish?
