Its funny I came here to see a review on the Cali Red because I had it recently and was blown away with how sweet, rich and mild it was, regardless of whether it was something i enjoyed, which you seem to agree with to some point or another. However, in other reviews a lot of people, especially in the comments, are calling it bitter and dry? I am quite new to wine so i don't know if this is an inconsistent blend or rather that peoples palates differ wildly
If you like it then you like it. Your second point is more accurate, palates differ a lot and also people get confused on how to describe wine. Wine is personal and we all have varying experiences
I like the red the best....the cali red has a bad after....the red tho bro that legit. Snoop dawg supporting the one thats mad dog 2020 tasting its just raceist in my opinion. Libritarian here.....when you know you know. God bless! Love you❤
I don't know anything about wines, but if I drink it, I like something more sweet. My sister likes wine a little more than me. She was so excited for me to try the 19 Crimes Red Cali... I did not like I at all. I thought it was me bc I don't know anything about wines but I see I was not so wrong😂
When the original first one came out few years back called the red wine, ( the one you voted best ) it was rich and fruity. It seems to me lately that it has changed. It tastes more acidic and has lost its depth. Used to be my favourite but not anymore.
@@drmatthewhorkey Sure, these are wines to please the average palate, even for people who doesn't like wine. These are not for the wine enthusiast, I like them, but not as something I could call "a serious" wine, or even wine itself.
I really hate the "movement" of sweet or off dry red wines. In Europe I call it the Primitivo-trend. Even the French do it nowadays. If I have a look at IGP wines I always try to check the residual sugar as the max. amount is not limited (unlike a AOP wine). Of course not every IGP is sweet but I see a trend here.
What part of Europe are you in? I spend more than half the year in Europe and I haven't noticed that trend in IGP wines. Although for Primitivo you are right, sweet to the max hahahaha (although there are some brilliant dry Primitivos).
@@drmatthewhorkey Hi Matthew, thanks for your reply. I live in Germany. In my experience the German wine drinker tends to drink sweeter wines. Maybe it's just an issue (a matter of supply and demand) here as the market for wines with high residual sugar is quite big? I don't know... Primitivo: could you please give me a recommendation for a real dry Primitivo (less than 4g res. sugar)? I couldn't find one so far... Thanks a lot
@@drmatthewhorkey even though I might annoy you with this topic... but I just received an ad by a big German wine Retailer (Jacques' Weindepot) that includes 3 French Wines. Two IGP and one AOP. All of the three do have quite some residual sugar, even the AOP has 5g. While the other two have 8.9g (white Gascogne) and 7.8g (Pay D'Oc)... I really can't understand it anymore. 🤷♂️
Have you had the Simple Life Pinot Noir? I’m picky about my wine and I will never drink a Yellow Tail ever again, but for $10-15 to me it is delicious.
He is right, this is like candied wine, overly sweet, no complexity and marketing over substance. I am drinking the Uprising now, first and last 19 crimes I think, way too sweet, even Porta 6 from Lisbon is better.
Maybe, next time, before trashing the wines you are tasting, you could rinse the glass with water before trying a new bottle, if not using a new glass altogether. Not doing so reduces your credibility substantially.
@Dr. Matthew Horkey I forgot to say that it's a VERY affordable wine, but I think it is a good wine. By the way, I tried one of the 19 CRIMES (I don't remember which one) and did not like it.
May I suggest pairing the cali red with nice Aurora Pedanios T18 Sour Tangie it ought to aromatise the pallet quite well between sips I might also add the experience is heightened by using the standing up method for this you will require a diamond encrusted cain, a chinchilla or other rare fur hat and a holy grail style goblet only then will you be worthy of reviewing mr dogs fine alcoholic beverage 😮💨 muggle

Matthew would you be able to try out Dwayne wade's wine brand? I've heard they are pretty good and are a good entry point for Wine newbies that are trying to get into wine
I’d have to disagree with your comment about the aging in whiskey barrels specifically. This is the first of your videos I’ve seen so I don’t know if you’ve tried it but cooper & thief’s bourbon barrel aged red blend has an incredible flavor with a nice whiskey note and a bit of a whiskey burn. I like whiskey so maybe that’s just me though 😂 Now as far as the 19 crimes goes I just tried the cali red and even as a fairly new wine drinker I’m not a fan of the sweetness. It wasn’t so bad that I wasted my money and threw it away but it tastes like an incoming hangover if I were to drink the whole bottle in a night
You can buy Snoopdog wine labeled bottled wines everywhere that bought the 19crimes line. Snoopdog is not selling. Even the clerk at Winco Yuba, City made weak sell for the negro labeled wine. I told her I liked the used oak barreled labeled bottles.
@@drmatthewhorkey It took a long time to discover the only difference was the label. Its funny how a label effects my buying. If you had Ike of 'Ike and Tina Turner' 19 crimes wine instead of snoopdog, I might have tried it. The domestic abuser Ike was still a band member. Snoopdog and his type do not make music they sing of insurrection and racial discontent. There is cowboy poetry if you wish to talk about spoken word music.

It’s crime to drink cheap wine! I am not killing my liver with shitty wine!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

10 to 15 per bottle you paid !? I haven’t been able to taste them yet, seems like smart marketing wine
9-13 usd here per bottle.

And Koreans can drink!!! Hehehe

Pouring wine over in the glass is better than water…

Thank you for the tips. What do you think about Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon? I have had it and I think it is a good wine. It is from California.

Help me with the way you were using the term variety. I understood varietals to use one specific type of grape.
Variety is the grape and varietal is used to describe a single variety wine
