Hi Ziet, this must be the BEST and most comprehensive tutorial on how to open an account. Thank You so much! I do have a few questions. I hope it is ok... I know it has been awhile since you published this video. Q - 1. I am currently self employed with very low income. What would you recommend I should write? Is there a risk they won't approve me? [Not planning on the margin option]. Q-2. My ID says 1 address while my actual residence is a different address. but both in the same country. What would you recommend in terms of verification documents? My bank account states my current address, while my ID and passport are on my older address. Q-3. Regarding proof of residence - All of my documents are in my country's language which is not English. Would they be able to read it and verify? Thanks again 😄🙏
This video is very informative & easy to understand and follow! I created my IB account this morning around 230am, and got approval around 12pm today!! Thank You Ziet.👍👍

Great guide! Easy to understand and very informative. I have few questions though. I'm currently living in a country (A) that does not allow crypto trading and have a bank account in my home country (B). Is it allowed to open an IBKR account while living in country A, but the funds will be coming from country B? If I can, should I declare my country in IBKR as country A (currently living and will be doing the trade transactions) or country B (where the funds will be coming from/going to - bank in my home country). Am I able to trade with this kind of set up? Thanks in advance!
Technically, they will still allow your trading permission based on your country residency...so you might still be blocked from having access to crypto (but you can double check with the customer support)
I just chance on your videos and i am sure I will listen to every one of them.. Which country interactive broker should I use? I am based in Singapore/
Hi from Thailand and thank you so much. I’m super glad that I finally found help after struggling with trading problems on ibkr for a week. I’m totally new to overseas investment but happened to have some money in a Singapore bank. My plan is to use half of that to build a retirement portfolio for my parents. Anyway, still no idea where to put money. Is Singapore reit still a good option?
Hi there, I would personally prefer ETFs in the US market for long term investments, can refer this video: ruclips.net/video/-10iIBnwITg/видео.html SG-REITs are pretty stagnant to me haha!
This is gold! Thanks for making this comprehensive video, really great job done! Btw I am wondering what is your view on enrolling in the Stock Yield Enhancement Program? Any experience so far with this program?
Hey there, i dont enroll in that, but from what I've read online, you earn "almost nothing" if you lend out stable stocks like AAPL, but when you lend out risky stocks you are taking the risks as well :P
Hi Julian, you need these permissions as IBKR do not allow you to trade everything right off the bat (as regulatory guideline restricts new user from having access to high risk products) - hence why!

Hi, you don't need any official permission from the government to invest overseas, but similar to any other income source, be prepared for audit during tax season so just keep your transaction records/account statement properly, and you should be fine - since there's no foreign investment capital gains tax!😊 Can refer this video for accounts statement: ruclips.net/video/WMKnUAaZm8w/видео.html

Hello Ziet, huge thumbs up for you on creating informational packed tutorial. Anyway, do you have any concerns or ideas on the delayed market data? Also, I've seen where there're min fees involved for fx (SGD to USD), is this true ?
Hi, no concern about delayed market data, I use other sources like Yahoo Finance/Google Finance/MarketWatch to get my near-live prices before I buy (i invest, not trade), you can also use their Snapshot feature that costs 1 cent to get live data before you buy (on IBKR). That said, I have a tutorial addressing this coming up next week 😊

Haha glad to know that! As a matter of fact they Do pay me when you click into my affiliate link (like an advertisement fee), just that they don’t sponsor any of my videos and don’t influence what I have to say about them 😊😊 all the best!!
Amazing content man! Been following you recently. I just turned 18 and I'm opening an account at Interactive Brokers, right now is on the "verification" process. Unfortunately, I started the application before watching this last video of yours, and I didn't check in what Interactive broker subsidiary I was in (the U.S, UK, or other). But that does not affect much right? And about taxes, I'm a student so I don't pay yet, but my country is on the list of tax treatment with the US, so it is better to put your id still right? So that the day I pay taxes, I don't do this. Still, I didn't have the option to not put a number there, I just put my Id and it worked. And I don't know why, But I wasn't able to go through the network page because it said I needed a 20K liquid net worth to trade stocks, which right now at 18 don't have. So just lied. That isn't a problem, is just a formalization. And finally, can you change your commission option (Tired or Fixed) when you start trading more volume? And why the tired is cheaper if you have the pay the other 3 commissions? Thank you.
Hi Ignacio😊 1. Which IBKR - doesn't matter, as per the pinned comment, the IBKR customer support has noted that it doesn't matter which IBKR you chosen, it will assign one according to your address 2. Tax Identification Number - if your country has tax treaty with the US, then its a big yes! Put that number in haha! I believe you can always update it later, though just to be safe, please confirm this with IBKR live chat customer support: www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=4633&p=chat 3. Pricing structure - you can always change between Tiered or Fixed anytime, it takes 1 business day for approval and you are good to go. Also, as explained in the video, the 3 other commission inside Tiered is verrrryyyyy small, hence it doesn't matter if you are buying in a low volume. The 3 will only be significant when you buy more shares per trade, hence that is when Fixed pricing structure becomes more cost effective.
Hi Ziet, thanks for this. I'm an expat living in the middle east. When I open this account should I use my home country or my current residence? thanks and great work on this.
Hi Ziet, Nice video 👍 One question. How to we switch between margin & cash and vice-versa? For Trading, I'd like to use margin while for Investing, I prefer cash. Thanks bro
Hi Raymond, you can refer this guide for switching: www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/am3/am/settings/accounttype.htm If you are referring to specific trades, I believe you have the choice whether or not to trade on margin (though I am not very sure since I am not on margin account), you can enquire IBKR Live Chat for more info on that.
Ziet, thanks for great educational videos. I have a question about IBKR. I have cash account and I made free ride violation. Now I can trade only with settled money ... where and how I can see date when my "punishment " expire ?
Dear Ziet, thank you so much for your videos and all your work regarding IBKR platform. Is much appreciated. I have a question regarding IBKR account credentials, I would like to open another account or shift my current account from IBKR Ireland to IBKR US, do you know if that is possible? Very helpful info. Can you help me with the followig question: I'm looking to fund my IB account using WISE but in the IB platform the funding option "Direct ACH transfer from your bank" doesn't appear to me (i guess it is due my address being from Europe). Great video, can I add the ability to trade options after I have opened my account? (It says I don't meet the requirements to trade options in the regulatory section)
Hi Ziet, - How should I open an account as a student? - Since there seems to be some limitations to students, will I be able to update my information when I'm employed later for these limitations to be lifted?
Hello Ziet! 😁 I might have a stupid question but can you move your SL order upside when you have already entered into a stock? For example: Buy at 80.0$, SL at 79.50$ - Transmit, order gets filled - price goes up to 85.0$ Can you move the SL from 79.50$ to 80$ or over 82.0$? Thanks :) Happy new year 🥳
Hi Robert, i believe you should be able to do that, though i have never done that myself hehe. Give it a try or ask the customer support - they should be able to help you 😄
Thank you so much for the video Ziet! It's very helpful for new IB beginners! I was searching thru your channel to see if there is any important info that I may have missed out. Just a quick question, for the ETF, you also go with tier plan as well? 13:40

Hi, Ziet. I am interest to invest mainly on US ETF. Plan to start with MYR 10k and add on funding every two months. Still considering either IB or Trade Station, which broker is more recommend for my investment ?
Hi Ziet, thanks for this informational video. When choosing an IBKR, my country of residence doesn't matter and it can be different from the IBKR you choose? E.g. I am a national of X, living in country Y but could choose IBKR Z? I thought that I had to choose IBKR Y but after watching your video I wanted to make sure. Thanks for any advice in advance!
Hello! Thank you for the kind words about the video! When it comes to selecting a specific Interactive Brokers (IBKR) entity, your country of residence typically plays a significant role in determining which IBKR entity you should or are eligible to, open an account with. However, it's not strictly about your nationality or the country of your birth. It's more about where you are currently residing and your tax residence. IBKR will generally direct you to a specific entity based on regulatory and compliance reasons tied to your residential address. Hope this clarifies!😊
Hi Eric, unfortunately I can’t do the math for you since I don’t trade actively/futures as well, you can only experiment and test out both for yourself! (Both are more or less the same to be honest)
Hi Ziet, I am Malaysian too. May I know after you switched from Traders Station to Interactive Broker, which country Interactive Broker are you using currently? Thank you Ziet
Hi, I am new. Currently I am on the tiered pricing plan on the IBKR platform. I plan to trade in Nasdaq and I plan to buy a few hundred tech stock shares at a time with values of between USD 1000 - USD 10000. Which pricing plan do u advise? Fixed or tiered pricing? Thank you

Your video was so helpful! Thank you. Do you have any videos about the tax reporting. I am a non-US person, but am wondering if I have to file tax documents in the US if I buy US index funds or ETF on Interactive Brokers. I am living in Japan.
Hi, technically you don't need to do that since IBKR will withhold payable dividends to pay the US IRS for you! You can check out this video for more information on the taxes: ruclips.net/video/VIM1fczQdAE/видео.html
My account was approved a week ago. Before funding it, I want to gain more confidence using the service. Will they revoke the approval if I fund my account after, say, two months ? Thank you.
Hi Ziet, Thanks for this informative video. Super helpful. SG portal has a few different steps as u can imagine. However now at the page where all documentation is uploaded and 'for review'. Guess the next step is just to logout and wait for approval. Am i right?
So if you are investing like 200$ a month, even if it's every month for 30 years, the tiered option is the best in terms of fees, right? You are talking about volume per trade and not overall, am I correct?
Hi ziet..it’s me again..after watching your video regarding the rakuten..just wondering, do you have any videos about dividend stocks? It would be more nice if you could enlighten us on that dividend stocks
Yay awesome video! I have a question, as a Malaysian, I would like to know if there’s any tax implications by transacting the funds to and fro from IBKR? Especially big amounts of funds. Cause not sure how taxes would have an effect or not. Sorry newbie here.
Hi James, in general foreign investment incomes are not taxable by Malaysia's tax law, unless it is your main source of income. Though if you are transacting a huge sum say > RM 50k, i believe it might trigger AML investigation (depends on luck) so remember to keep funding proof/slips and you should be golden. Any amount more than few hundred K, please consider asking a financial advisor for any possible implications because I may have missed a thing or two. Hope this helps 😊

Haha glad to know that! As a matter of fact they Do pay me when you click into my affiliate link (like an advertisement fee), just that they don’t sponsor any of my videos and don’t influence what I have to say about them 😊😊 all the best!!
Nice fork, bro.
😋thanks haha
thanks, great sharing. learnt alot. account opening was fast (within 2.5hours approval)
Hehe glad it helped!! 🥰
Thank you.
Hi Ignacio😊
1. Which IBKR - doesn't matter, as per the pinned comment, the IBKR customer support has noted that it doesn't matter which IBKR you chosen, it will assign one according to your address
2. Tax Identification Number - if your country has tax treaty with the US, then its a big yes! Put that number in haha! I believe you can always update it later, though just to be safe, please confirm this with IBKR live chat customer support: www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=4633&p=chat
@@ZietInvests Thank you very much for the answer Ziet! Greets.
@@ignaciopazgarcia5370 You're welcome!
Hi Ziet,
thanks for this. I'm an expat living in the middle east. When I open this account should I use my home country or my current residence? thanks and great work on this.
Hi Kristian, I think the residential address that follows your tax residency should work!
Hi Ziet,
Nice video 👍
One question. How to we switch between margin & cash and vice-versa?
For Trading, I'd like to use margin while for Investing, I prefer cash.
Thanks bro
Hi Raymond, you can refer this guide for switching: www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/am3/am/settings/accounttype.htm
If you are referring to specific trades, I believe you have the choice whether or not to trade on margin (though I am not very sure since I am not on margin account), you can enquire IBKR Live Chat for more info on that.
I find it hilarious that you used a fork to hold your microphone. Not sure if it was the safest thing but it works.
Hahaha it's actually safe, since I don't move my hand that much...I think...😂
Is no one else going to talk about his mic?
🤣 let's keep it between the 2 of us!
Do you know how to shift my current Ireland account to US account or how to create a new one in the US ?
Thank you so much for you help!!
You are an excellent presenter. InterActive Brokers scares me because there is so much available. But it is a drag it does not have live market data. I will use google.
They do have live market data for US market now 😁
Hi Ziet. What is the easy way of investment without harming capital in IBKR-TSG?
Try money market funds? 😁
Thank you bro. Just opened my account after dilly dally for a long time lol very helpful tutorial!
Haha don't we all do that! All the best and welcome to the fam!😊
Is the joint account will be taxed the same as the individual acc or will I be paying more with the joint acc?
Thank you for the valuable information Ziet! You are changing lives by the minute. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much Farah, this means so much to me!!!
Hello,
Thank you for the video which is very interesting.
My question is how to do if you want to trade options on stocks or commodities futures for example?
Thank you
Hey there, I currently don't do options, but will explore in the future maybe!
Thanks for the information . It will help me a lot . Should we need to hold the tax identification number in the country where we are currently residing for creating an account ? Or can we enter the Tax identification number of other country too ?
Thank you so much! Very clear guide. sending love from the Philippines
Wow..Ziet.With the passion and organized skills you show in this video, you will make a big success.
Thank you so much Sean, this means a lot to me!
I am from Malaysia too. Thank you so much for your detail sharing, follow your steps I managed to open the account easily.
By the way, do u have video to share how to submit W-8BEN (IBKR)? Can it submit through online or must submit hardcopy? Thanks
Very helpful info. Can you help me with the followig question: I'm looking to fund my IB account using WISE but in the IB platform the funding option "Direct ACH transfer from your bank" doesn't appear to me (i guess it is due my address being from Europe). Do you have any idea of why this happens? Thanks
Hi Pedro, I have addressed your concern in this video: ruclips.net/video/rV5mKcvwGOA/видео.html
Hope this helps!
I love your forky microphone. 😂😂😂 Thanks for all of this information. I wish I’d come across it before I opened my own account.
😂hehe glad you liked it!! Doesn't matter - I have more IBKR content in the near future to come! Stay tuned to them hehe
Greetings Ziet, fantastic information and just so well presented, thank you so much. Can I ask, as a New Zealand born citizen now living as an expat in Singapore on an E-Pass: (6 yrs and counting and basically intending to stay in Sng long term): it it okay / recommend by you to make Sng my country etc when I set up my account/ app? Many thanks.
Great video, can I add the ability to trade options after I have opened my account? (It says I don't meet the requirements to trade options in the regulatory section)
Yes you can! Though you might need at least 10k USD deposited for options trading, you can always add that later on even if your account is opened :)
Very much useful to request all necessary permissions , thank you
Glad you liked it Shanthi! Stay safe 😊
Hi Ziet,
- How should I open an account as a student?
- Since there seems to be some limitations to students, will I be able to update my information when I'm employed later for these limitations to be lifted?
Hi Wei Juan, you can definitely update your details later, not a problem! 😄
In Cambodia, can we trade on IBKR, Ziet?
Hopefully to get answer from you!
Hi Bernard, IBKR does support IBKR ya ^^
Hello Ziet! 😁
I might have a stupid question but can you move your SL order upside when you have already entered into a stock?
For example: Buy at 80.0$, SL at 79.50$
- Transmit, order gets filled - price goes up to 85.0$
Can you move the SL from 79.50$ to 80$ or over 82.0$?
Thanks :)
Happy new year 🥳
Hi Robert, i believe you should be able to do that, though i have never done that myself hehe. Give it a try or ask the customer support - they should be able to help you 😄
Hi, Ziet , thanks for your great video, understand that IBKR having TWS trading platform for their client...Is TWS free of charge for PRO account?
Hi KW, if you mean IBKR PRO, then yes, it is free
what is the cheapest way to transfer money to interactive brokers? through WISE account or from US bank using ACH transfer?
Very informative. Thanks from Sydney!
Cheers buddy! Love from Malaysia 🥰
Thank you so much for the video Ziet!
It's very helpful for new IB beginners! I was searching thru your channel to see if there is any important info that I may have missed out.
Just a quick question, for the ETF, you also go with tier plan as well? 13:40
Hi Alan, yup, I'm always on the Tiered plan, regardless for stock or ETF since its the cheaper option for my investing style. Hope this clarifies!😊
Hi, can you help to show how to ask for permissions for Options trading, and request for different Levels 1 to 4 required by IBKR. Thanks so much, for such great videos... very easy to follow, and understand.
Your content is so engaging ❤️ please dont ever change!!!
Thank you so much!! Will only do better 😁😁
would appreciate a lot if u can do a rundown regarding existing IBKR account settings for 2024. eg. stock yield enhancement program, dividen election, etc
will put that to my to do list!

I opened the IBKR account and none docs for ID and residence were asked to send and I could begin to work few hours after registration. Really amazing.

Hi, Ziet. I am interest to invest mainly on US ETF. Plan to start with MYR 10k and add on funding every two months. Still considering either IB or Trade Station, which broker is more recommend for my investment ?
Hi Angela, definitely IB, cheaper rate and no more inactivity fees for now!
@@ZietInvests thank you for the quick reply! Then it makes sense again and is like I thought. :)
Very informative video. we want more videos like next steps of ibk for investing. God bless you
Thank you my friend! Stay tuned for I will be uploading IBKR tutorial next Friday!😊
Hello Ziet,,i trade very often for US HK futures ,,,which one should i choose ? tier or fixed?
Hi Eric, unfortunately I can’t do the math for you since I don’t trade actively/futures as well, you can only experiment and test out both for yourself! (Both are more or less the same to be honest)
Love the fork!!! :) Thank you for the videos, very informative!!!
Glad you loved it!!!
hi ziet , as a bro , i love u so much for all these information ure sharing , pls actively post more about ibkr 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thank you so much bro! Love you back too!! Will make more videos about IBKR for sure!
Hi Ziet, I am Malaysian too. May I know after you switched from Traders Station to Interactive Broker, which country Interactive Broker are you using currently? Thank you Ziet
Thank you Ziet!! Your videos are so informative and straight forward. Bless you!
Cheers Dalil!! I'm glad you liked this video 🥳
Dear Ziet, keep it up. I love to watch your video which is related to Interactive Broker. It helps me a lot because I am going to be its use soon
Thank you so much Youji, I'm so glad to share all of these with everyone! Love everything about Interactive Brokers!
Hi,
I am new.
Thank you
Tiered would be the way to go if you are not buying in huge quantities (like more than 100 shares per trade)😁
@@ZietInvests tq👌

Thank you so much Steven, and welcome on board!! See you next time in the comments section!
This video is soooo good, informative, clear, and extremely helpful!! Seriously bagus gila. I’m gonna start my IBKR account soon so it’s been so good watching this. Thank you!! 😄
Yayyy so glad this was helpful to you! Thank you so much🥰
Thank you for the VDO it is Very informative. May I ask about the Tax for the non-US person? Do we need to worry about this when investing in IBKR?
Hi, no worries as most dividend withholding tax is handled by IBKR. You only have to worry about your local taxes applicable!
@@ZietInvests thank you very much for the response, may I ask one last question? what’s about the Form W-8BEN? Should I complete the form?
Thanks Ziet!! Been waiting for this video. Now, its time for me to open IBKR
Yayyyy hop on the IBKR train! 🥰
Hey! Ziet thank you for helpful video, but I have a question - how can I confirm my address if I am not the beneficial owner and I dont pay for electricity, gan etc. Im 18 years old and living with parents.
Hey there, you can use Passport / driving license / national ID / phone bills / bank e-statement :)
Does the interactive broker enable you to reinvest your dividends?
yes they do have DRIP!
Sir, this is pure gold information. Many thanks :) I would prefer a man, but my mind is open 🤣
HAHAHA OKAY! 😂
Thank you!
I just got approved
Glad to know that! ☺️☺️ enjoyyy
It's very helpful for the tier and fixed commission price ! Thanks bro
Hehe glad it helped! Have a great week ahead my friend!
My account was approved a week ago. Before funding it, I want to gain more confidence using the service. Will they revoke the approval if I fund my account after, say, two months ?
Thank you.
Hi Sharon, i believe you will have 3 months to fund it, so no worries, you can take your time to get familiar with their platform in the meantime!
Thank you.
Hi Ziet, Thanks for this informative video. Super helpful. SG portal has a few different steps as u can imagine. However now at the page where all documentation is uploaded and 'for review'. Guess the next step is just to logout and wait for approval. Am i right?
Yup that is correct! Give it a day or two and IBKR should e-mail you!
@@ZietInvests Thank you Ziet. appreciate it. The account is up and running now! :) Ready to rock n roll!
Can check out this one on S&P 500 ETFs that provide dividends! ruclips.net/video/VIM1fczQdAE/видео.html&ab_channel=ZietInvests

Hi Ziet, are we allowed to switch from Tiered to Fixed in the future? When we gained more confidence to trade in larger volumes.
Hi there, yes, you can always switch between them, takes 24 hours to approve changes ;)
Hi Ziet, apparently the option for tiered is greyed out. I couldn’t switch to tiered. Any thoughts? Maybe IB no longer allow that for IBKR Pro
