Hello, this recital was entirely recorded in Sopron (Hungary), in 1986. I do have a VHS complete copy in color (from Dr Mazoyer). This one is a bad version maybe after multiple copies and the colors disappeared. Cziffra's son died in 1982, this was 4 years after. At that time Cziffra decided to continue his career and went back on the stage after a long nervous breakdown (during which he gave few recitals in little french towns such as Senlis, Bagnoles de l'Orne, etc., and one tour in the USA - the only one during all his life, which has been released on CD by the "Societe internationale des Amis de Georges Cziffra" in 1995). Having got fat a lot during 1982-1985, he was on a diet severe at the begining of 1986 and lost a lot of weight. The same year he played in Paris (Comedie des Champs Elysees). Unfortunately he only played two more years in public, with the return of the nervous breakdown in 1987. He made his very last tour during summer 1988 with Paris (Théâtre des Champs Elysées), Comminges, La Chaise-Dieu and Strasbourg (in September, 1988), maybe Jerusalem I am not sure if anybody can confirm. They were the farewells to the public of one of the greatest pianists of all time. Georges Cziffra was 65 years old in 1986. Bruno Garnier, President Fondateur de la Societe internationale des Amis de Georges Cziffra, august 2015.
I worked to digitally restore the best version of this recital that I could find on my channel. If you're able to share your VHS copy, I would be happy to work to restore anew from a higher quality original. ruclips.net/video/Y5ZBdJl31r0/видео.html
This piece called Chopin "s Polish song. Mainly composed for Vocal . Very beautiful and breathtaking piece. Love to hear this beautiful transcription .
No. Chopin wrote only one cycle of Lieder which contains 14 songs, if I don't remember bad. And Liszt decided to arrange six of them in a suite titled "Polish songs". And this one is the first of the Liszt transcriptions, The maiden wish.
Thanks for this very rare film footage. Cziffra often played this piece and also recorded it commercially. I like his improvisatory approach as if composing the music on the spot.
Cziffra in his time in Paris and around the world, played many pianos and was happy to do so. These included Steinway, Baldwin, Beckstein and Gaveau. In Budapest he had a Yamaha.
Cziffra died in 1990 after suffering from a heart attack. After the death of his son in a house fire, he went into "hiding" and never fully recovered . He did a few concerts until he retired. He was 72 when he passed away - still young for anyone who is in good health
@EntertainerClassical he probably did, just when he played them they broke the camera/recorder because they were so perfect. Honestly he could just sight read a piece and learn it on the first go around. I bet thats what they teach you at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music.
This can't be one of his last concerts. His son died around 80-82. This video should be in color. He stopped playing in public after his sons death. Not before.

What one could say.....he says everything with his hands....How we miss artists like these ones!
Even a mistake sounds exquisite! A true musician.
Lui è sensazionale e le sue mani non hanno sentito gli anni scorrere, la sua freschezza rimarrà sempre vivida.

A rare footage of a rare piece
