In this video, we take a look at three easy methods of adding a picture in picture effect in Final Cut Pro. You’ll learn how to add a basic picture in picture effect, a custom shape picture in picture window, and a circle picture in picture window with a border. Most of this can be done right in Final Cut Pro, with no need for paid plugins.

Thanks, that's how a tutorial should be. I am messing around with the trial version of FCP after years of iMovie and it's a big leap so it helps me a lot learning new methods of achieving the results I expect.

The trouble I’m having is I have two camera views one over top of the other, I’m trying to insert a photo and have the photo be the main view upfront with a smaller box of the main video.
With the older version of iMovie this was a piece of cake but now with FCP it is being very difficult.
iMovie was easy to put a picture in picture swap them and change the transition duration.
FCP is pretty cool but to spend $300 on something I can no longer do but was able to do in iMovie is pretty frustrating.

Helpful! Except I can't get your adjustment layer to show up under 'Titles'. There's no 'Titles' folder in 'Movies' so I made one but regardless of where I put the unzipped 'Adjustment Layer' folder (or its contents), nothing appears when I open FCP. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong guys?
@Serge, I'm having the same problem as @DojiStar. Possibly the process has changed in FCP for getting these to work?

Hi Serge, thanks for the video, I learned from this great tutorial a few months back and have been using it but now I have a new related problem. I now have an audio file, a main cam, and a screen recording. I want to have my main cam as a Picture in Picture using your circle generator method over the screen recording. The problem is I need all three files to be synced. When I do a multi cam setup I can’t figure out how to do the circle generator over just the cam file. And if I sync the audio to the cam file by syncing clips, and then manually sync tue screen recording, when I edit out gaps, the screen recording is no longer synced to the cam and audio. Any help much appreciated!!

Hi Serge, Do you know how to create a PIP with perspective for video. For example, if I have a video clip of a laptop screen and the camera was moving say from the left side to the right side in a circular motion, the perspective of the screen changes. I already have the pixel film studios auto perspective tracking so could easily replace the image on the laptop screen with a picture. However, how would I change the laptop screen to a video clip whilst retaining the perspective of the PIP video as the master clip circles from left to right around the laptop?

I’m trying to apply a simple border to my Picture in Picture clip but it just shows a symbol and yellow triangle with exclamation mark
It blows my mind that I paid for final cut pro for it to take 5 steps for something that takes 1 click in iMovie
