    I remember "voluntary retirement were a thing in sweden during early 1980s -They paid people near the age to retire thus actually put astrain on the taxes but what did corporates care.. not much now or them

    Yewon's fiancee is so freaking creepy. There is no way he's letting her just walk away. The character seems evil, and it doesn't help that he looks like "Handsome Squidward".

    Poor Manjae. He devoted all his life to this company and now they're just making him go instead of younger employees. He will definitely not find another job as he is too old and being at home all day long when you still want to work is terrible.
    What I don't get is why his daughter (the one working at this "we make couples"-agency) doesn't have enough money to move out. She works so she should be able to save money and move out. It's not like you have to have a husband to pay rent.
    But apart from that fact I really love the drama so far.
    The female lead might be really short-tempered but I am looking forward to getting to know more about her story and what happened to her and her family. It better be a real big thing because cutting ties with your family is something that needs a big reason. Also I can see how the two main characters will get closer and finally end up together. He learned (and I bet he will learn) some lessons about life by not getting the fellowship and by his girlfriend's betrayal. Now that he sees that others also suffer, he might realise a few things.
    I really wonder about the other couple ( Aeran (?) and her husband ) ... does he cheat on her? Did she cheat on him? I hope to find out about it more and maybe they will sort out their relationship. It seems like they still have some sort of feelings but they never talk properly so they swallow all the bad things that happen.
    To all the critics: You have to keep in mind that Korean beliefs and traditions are portrayed here. Especially because of grandfather and grandmother and also Manjae and his wife and that other Mum (the rich one). But the younger generations kinda break all these rules and traditions but as they know they would not be understood by their parents/grandparents they keep it to themselves.

    I can see why he went in the deep end, He did not put his name to volunteer retirement. He did not want to retire but he is not looking at it realistically, He should have moved on get he pay and pension. Think about starting something in his life.

    Manjae has a point, its not "voluntary" if the company is forcing you to do it. Besides, if he wasn't making all that much money anyway (according to the wife's complaining), is it really cheaper to fire them and pay severance, then just let him stay his remaining two years? Meanwhile, Yewon is really annoying. He doesn't want her "help" and considering she's so far just interfering with other people's livelihoods, I don't see how she's helping Ujin in the first place.

  • @bootsa2990
    @bootsa2990 9 лет назад +8

    Yewon thinks Ujin will wait for her. She has the nerve to plan for their future as if she is 100% sure they'll be back together. If I'm Ujin I'll stay away from her as far as possible. She is wearing the pants right now. Now, what kind of man likes that.

    So Yewon thought she could pretend to get engaged, make him invest in her father's struggling company, and then walk away with the money and no obligation to marry him? What kind of business woman is this idiot anyway? Business deals require both sides getting something they need and or want. He's making all the concessions and she's reaping all the rewards and she thinks he's stupid enough to let her win like that? And if and when his father takes back his investment or it turns out they are taking over the company entirely, what is she going to do? Pretend to get engaged again?

    They really just added Haesu's father to the cast, and alluded to her having a whole family. As if more people are needed. If that person at the end really does die it won't bother me because I find that character annoying and there are so many freaking people in this drama some of them have to go.

      EloiseInParis I think this is a culture thing. And it was this bad here in America back in the day. My father put 30 years into the company before he was forced into retirement. He was devastated. and you are looking for a new job in a recession when you are 60? No one is going to hire you. There are lots of qualified young studs. America has changed. Most folks expect to change jobs 6 times nowadays. But Korea still has that confucian thing, and folks still expect loyalty up, loyalty down with your company thing.

      EloiseInParis Haesu had gone by Dad's restaurant earlier. I thought it was her exhusband but it's her father. Maybe parents story will explain her feistiness.

    • @EloiseInParis

      Steven Demonnin I get why the father is upset, and even someone in America today would be pissed about a forced retirement or as we call it now downsizing. But I can see why he's on the list, he's an idiot. All he's done is whine or look for a hookup. He hasn't done anything to show why he's an asset to the company, he hasn't brought in any clients or come up with some valuable idea for his work. He hasn't come to terms with the fact that its over for him at that job and come up with a plan for his own small business or looked for another job, he went to his brother and expected to him just give him high level position. There are other dad characters in other drama's that have been forced out of jobs, and even if they hid their situation from their family like this man they still did something to try and supplement their income.

    • @EloiseInParis
      @EloiseInParis 9 лет назад +1

      Mary Ann Nelson Yeah I get why they added him, but they could've just had her tell her story over drinks or something. We didn't need to actually see her father.

      Steven Demonnin So true, yet some people knew it was coming and planned for it, and took the package. The severance back then for 30 to 40 years of service ranged from 300,000 to 500,000+ depending on position. An elderly lady because her husband died early, she took the packaged. Then moved to another company that bought out by her company and invested the money. CD and savings rate I think was 5%. Some people blow through it. Others take part time jobs and let their money work for them. But when you are a manager and invested all of your life in that and never though about what you would do one day it's a shock.

    Poor abeoji, he committed his life to one job. They force him to retire without his approval, he well along the years. In South Korea, you most likely don't see older folks work still like you do in the U.S.It's all about their family tradition where you work hard rest of the your life till your good and then your children takes care of you. Yet in his case, the only working people in their household will be his son and daughter and yet still has his parents to take care.Hinting he retired too early.

  • @Chownz
    @Chownz 9 лет назад +1

    Shouldn't the family wonder why the 'eldest' son doesn't work and know that in this modern age women have the same rights as men - so are allowed to work equally as men!! Korean culture is one thing but this isn't the Joseon period - the family have to realise that women can work and men can take care of the home and raise children, but stereotypes and sexism is alive and well in Kdrama!!

    what a way to end it. That smarmy exec director should have been up there.
    I agree with the kitchen ladies. That training, considering they already have certificates, strikes me as just pointless humiliation.
    There is a whole lot of backstory we haven't got yet. What is the story with her and her father? She should recognise that when her dad has a new squeeze she should just wish him well. Unless she is EVIL, which does not seem to be the case.
    What I like about this is that the characters, while positive in the main, have severe character flaws. like temper. Like over inflated egos. This is a very good show.

    • @maryannnelson1153
      @maryannnelson1153 9 лет назад

      Steven Demonnin the kitchen ladies need to learn the won method. they are all trained cooks; now they need to learn to put together the partially prepared foods from the company. it is insulting but what they are being asked to do does not require their degree of skill.
