This has become one of my favorite channels, and criminally underrated at that. Interesting videos, talented guy, great presentation and a very nice voice to listen to!
I made a basic flute with the CD’s I had some PVC laying around after making a didgeridoo and it was the perfect addition to my wind instruments. Thank you so much for your videos I can wait for what’s next and what might give me inspiration.
Haven’t seen a film container for so long. Flood of memory from such a simple item. I can still feel the feeling of popping the top off. Haha wild. 6:08
Oh ! Je faisais toujours le sifflet avec mes vieilles pellicules photos étant gosse ! Merci de me replonger dans mon enfance ! Et j'ai adoré les différents whistles que tu as présenté, la plupart que je connaissais pas ! Je vais m'éclater...
Incredible. Thank you for making this. Going out on a limb here, but I’ve been playing slide whistle karaoke on RUclips and Twitch for 6 years now. Thought you might appreciate it. Peace.
Definitely gonna experiment with the CD one Update: I use clothespins to the hood them together(they work enough for good sound) to change pitch. And I noticed the sound is nice out of a cardboard christmas wrapping paper tube Thank you! You made me see music in items I would've thrown out
CD flute...i make flutes on 11 years, but, no think this possibilite. Is very amazing for work to students and childrens. Congratulations for your job! Hugs from Brazil.
You cut up a film can? Oh man, that's a priceless antique! We used to make those from little tin cans when I was a wee boy. Also bullroarers from wooden rulers (but we didn't know they were called bullroarers!) Cheers mate, this was terrific. Now, where are my scissors?
@@bigboybeni Thank you Beni! I'm very glad to hear that. I hope you'll take a look at some of my other vids, I think they will make you smile. Cheers mate and stay healthy.
The intense look on your face gets me. You are like my mildly insane uncle Jeb I had growing up who stood around looking intense but told hilarious filthy jokes with a straight face and could fix anything, lawn mowers, car engines, tractors, toasters, my broken guitar, grandma’s refrigerator, my cat’s broken leg, the local Methodist church bell etc.) I love your channel. Thanks for so much entertainment and wizardry.
very nice! i was hoping for some kids friendly build, for them to build it themselves, but the cutting can be done by the adults and the rest by them thanks!!
I used to hunt Quail and I made a Quail call to aid in this. It was a small piece on metal bent in half with a piece of glossy magazine page for the diaphragm. When blown through easy, it reproduced the call of a Quail when in the proper cadence.
cool man! back in early 90s during school sports day i think there was a diy whistle made from a film container + balloon + marker pen but i couldnt remember how to make it again haha
Yes I loved your Death Whistle...that was so cool. I should show you how to make a quail call that my dad taught me how to make when I was a kid. I taught our local Cub Scout how to make them and they loved them. I'm sure you could turn it into a musical instrument, it vibrates a rubber band between two halves of a branch with other rubber bands wrapped on both ends. It's super easy to make but it sounds pretty cool and very similar to your CD/Can flute.
I will try to make a video over the weekend, I know I have one and I had my son make one. It’s pretty simple but I think in the hands of a master like yourself, you might be apply to an apply the concept into what you’re doing.
@@NicolasBras Ok I still haven't found the Quail Calls that I've made but they look just like what this guy made in his video except I cut the rubber band after tuning it. ruclips.net/video/aooYTCv078k/видео.html
That's what they should teach in music lessons in schools - to talk about how you can make musical instruments yourself. And who needs to sing or play on something, then let them go to special music schools. I remember how we had simple singing, no frills. It was of little use. It would be better if they talked about notes, about the generation of sounds and the like, it would immediately become much more interesting.
"Ask your grandparents..." but... I'm only 54 years old, and I used those regularly when I worked as a photojournalist. Doesn't matter anyway, I don't have children.
To no offense of his accent, but I can't make out what kind of flute the spinning pvc kind is at 5:18. A diy on that would be cool. Really dig your vids man. Keep it up
washesr in a pipe are like the little wistle on a kettele or double boiler to let you know that the water is boiling! (i played around too much with it as a kid and then mum magicaly "lost it" one day, so i couldn´t play it anymore :D ) also dog whisle is exactl the same principal as whisteling on your fingers works right? it sounded so similar
You really need to do a collaboration with a builder of thermoacoustic engines - so many of your instruments could be adapted to function as part of one.
Not a whistle, but find a mini fridge, with a tray that collects condensation. When it comes time to defrost it, let it melt, and once it's loose, take out the ice sheet, and drop it on a hard surface. The sound it makes is like breaking glass.
Please make an ocarina from a flat plastic bottle. A whistle can be made by gluing two rectangular plastic plates with cutouts onto a bottle, according to the principle: “Like three DVD discs.”
Neat! I tried to come up with a joke and AOL because of the modem noise and CD but its not connecting... Anyways cool video thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I just knew there was going to be a good ol’ acorn top featured in the list, alas I was mistaken. acorn tops are excellent whistles!

Hey Nicolas, do you use stationary drills or a drill press? Carbide end mills and a soft-jaw vice have helped me achieve any angle in PVC.
