Auntie Ti I haven’t been in a hair salon since last year for graduation. Before that the last time I went was 2018. I regret going back. I started doing my own hair again.
I got locs and its some crazy bs… It was someone that said if you book. a loc style the retwist is not included it has to be a whole separate services. what
100 percent agree. Its even worse in areas with less black people because they know they are needed. I've learned to cut my own hair, and as well went natural. What bothers me is that when you ask for a price they can't even answer. Its like a math equation .... if I send pics even if I go in for an estimate they still don't tell me how much it would be for a silk press or cut. Smh its absolutely disgusting.
As a client, here are my deductions: You start on my hair late -$30 Answering text and checking emails -$25 Stopping to pick up your kids from school -$50 Stopping to eat lunch -$40 Gossiping with coworker while pressing my hair -$15. We can be petty too!
When I was in the US I was paying $90 for lashes and $80 for my nails… I moved to Europe two months ago and now I’m paying the equivalent of $25 for a full set of nails with no design fees and around $17 for my lashes. Fill ins are FREE. I’ve been getting my hair braided by this braider who will do any style for €80. Soft locs are €60 and traditional sew ins are only €30. Couldn’t be happier.
@@BuffyNoir140 practice makes perfect you’ll save yourself some coin learning how to do your own. I even have people asking me to do their braids and I’m not a stylist.
When I tell you what I learned from RUclips.. This is coming from a person who could barely pulled a ponytail together and couldn't make a part to save my life. Now, I coloring wigs, bleaching knots on wigs, cornrows, sisterhood, branding, 2 strand twist, bumper curl. If I can lear, anybody can learn.
That’s why I went to RUclips beauty school and learned how to do my OWN hair…and turns out I’m the best stylist I’ve ever had anyway! These “fees” are bogus.
I started doing braids from the age of 12, I'm now in my 40's and I'm appalled to see someone is charging clients a "Parting fee" 🤔 I'm sorry parting goes without saying it's not a special service being offered! That's disgusting! I also blame the clients that came into agreement with this foolishness! 😤
But the part that gets me is that a lot of these stylists aren’t even licensed and are charging ridiculous prices. And it’s no shade to them because there are a lot of very talented self taught stylist. And on top of the ridiculous fees they want you to come with your hair already washed, blow dried, etc. it’s like they charging more and doing way less.
@@Nu_Classic most people get a $25 braiding license that allows them to do everything except chemical services, wash, cut, etc. they mostly get a braiders license to do braids and weaves
This is why I go to African braiders with small studios in the suburbs because they don't gossip, braid in a few hours and the prices are reasonable with no extra fees
They’re going up to bc of the black girls! They’ll work with you tho. I’m honestly done with black stylists “charging their worth” doing hair out of their apartments!
I do my own hair now too. RUclips videos are a great help. I don't do chemicals though. Box braids, twists, sew ins things of that sort. I just study and take care of my natural hair.
I've been watching hair tutorials during quarantine and learned how to do braids. I was tired of them charging my daughter extra because she has thick hair. I've been doing my daughter and my braids ever since. Now the weave I need more tutorials 😆
I already said. Anybody born after 1985 can’t do my hair. Bring back stylists with reasonable prices that actually CARE about the hair that grows out your scalp. Most of these girls don’t have a license either. Lord help us all.
I learned to do my own hair. Braids and all. I havent looked back. Now when it comes to them Looooong Braids I'll pay. I want that and i know it takes time
You’re not lying about them not being licensed and then want to charge for unnecessary stuff. A lot of these broads flossing on Instagram and don’t have a license
They can price themselves out of their own industry. Getting your hair done isn't a MUST! If it gets too expensive people just won't go. Plain and simple. Them clients just as crazy for paying and booking with those outrageous stylist. Ain't a wig or silk press in the world smh
The clients that are paying are the problem if you ask me. I came across a braider on IG charging for $1000 braids and people were actually paying that. A mess.
As a Senior Cosmetologist here, I'll say this is the future of hair styling. I totally disagree with how these stylist are charging a la cart for each service. In MD shampooing is the state requirements before your service can begin. That is not a separate service from styling and chemical. Shampooing is to ensure that clients hair is clean and safe to use your tools on before service. It's ridiculous, but this is world of social media influence!
I don’t go to salons I do all my maintenance myself. But I was looking into coloring my hair professionally and none of the salons I saw, albeit a bit pricey, had any of these weird random fees. Sadly, most did expect me to come with my hair washed no product but I assumed that was for haircut purposes
@@MiVidaBellisima But you don't wash your hair before coloring it. Your natural oils help the color absorb🤔. Wait, did make this shit up. I'm a damn nurse. I don't do hair lol.
My stylist charged me extra for having long hair and I remember the last time I went to her she complained about my hair being thick and long and said it takes too long to do. It took her 4 hours to wash, blow dry, and flat iron my hair. I also remember when I had a discussion with her about stylists refusing to do 4c hair and she said it’s ok for stylists to refuse to do type 4 hair because white peoples hair is easier. After that, I stopped going to her.
@@Forsaken860 This very thing happened to me. Then the stylist tried to rip through my hair to finish it. I have never gone back to any other hair dresser.
Wow thats awful I use to work at a salon(white area) and there were set times/prices according to how long the hair was but no one was made to feel bad about it.
I’m a licensed hairstylist and I don’t believe that is fair. Her pregnancy is not the clients problem. Squeeze in fee? If I can’t do your hair because I’m booked up, you will have to schedule when I’m available. All these fees are unheard of. PS Born 1980.
Getting your hair washed and conditioned used to be included with a service. Now you gotta come washed, conditioned, blow dried, hot pressed and ends clipped or you getting charged extra. Born in ‘73…
I've been waiting for you to discuss this topic in detail for years now. A woman in Houston does an average usual sew in and it looks great but I paid her almost $300 for it. Didn't wash, dry, or cut the hair. Literally just sewed it in and added a few curls... These Instagram stylists are insane. And disrespectfully rude.
Yeah I never go to salons so I literally had no idea it had gotten this bad these comments are blowing me away it’s not only hair stylists but barbers, mail and lash shops as well wtfffff 😳😦
I have been a hair stylist for as long as I can remember. I have owned my hair studio for multiple plus years now, and when I was pregnant with my twins (who are now 7 years old), I definitely did not have a pregnancy fee! I'm too loyal to my clients. Those same people that I built relationships with, are the same people that came to my baby showers and still to this day still buy my children things. I would never do my clients like that!
Kudos to you sis!🙌🏾❤️This is the type of professional business ethics that is lacking with these new stylists today. People don’t understand that you reap what you sow! If you sow greed, rudeness and unprofessionalism you’re NOT gonna reap loyal customers and business growth.
Honey when I stopped going to stylists my hair flourished. Some of these stylists be haters. Can’t count how many times my hair was been damaged in a salon…
@@tataliciousdelicious9840 Mine too. Imagine if I never went to one to one after all of the heat and chemical damage? My hair would be to my butt by now! LOL
I fully believe in "you have the right to charge whatever you want and I have the right to say "no thank you" and go to the next person" I haven't been to a salon in over a decade and have no intentions on ever returning. I'm now loc'd, but I wash/dye/retwist my dang self.
Did you loc it yourself? I’ve been looking for locticians, and these heifers want no less than $600!!!! Claiming my hair is too long (shoulder length) and thick .
That’s my motto right there Sis‼️ “you absolutely got the right to charge however & whatever you see fit…& I absolutely got the right to not pay it”. Period 🤷🏾♀️💅🏾
I was once 9 months pregnant with twins and my clients tipped me very well some bought gifts for the babies it was great. And now 19 years later I still have some of those same clients who have helped my sons get jobs and register in school. They twins live a very blessed life
Before I left home for undergrad in 2012 , I went natural and attended RUclips university to learn how to do protective styles AND retain moisture for my 4c hair. 10 years later , I’m glad I did.
She could’ve easily just raised her price and said “Due to higher demand, my prices have increased this season until further notice. Thank you” It’s that simple 🙄🤦🏽♀️
*Yes. She didn't have to be ghetto and say pregnancy fee! Just raise yo prices and move tf on girl! Those who are 4 u will stay, those who aint 4 u will go to sumbodys kitchen lol*
That's how it used to be. Once a year or whatever, my salon would post a notice saying that prices were being increased after a certain date. You had time to either adjust your budget, find someplace else or do your own hair.
That “parting fee” is pure nonsense . That’s like me being charged a “ wash fee” for my damn wash and set, that’s what comes with the process WTF 🤬 I would never 👎
And Some stylists are charging well over $1,000 for wigs with installs. In this day and age, we are paying more for their lifestyles than good customer service and quality hairstyles 🙄
Some hairstylists act like they’re doing them a favor when we’re the ones paying THEM. We don’t HAVE to go to them. They’re convenient, not mandatory.😂😂😂
Let's talk about this unprofessional behavior and how it is why as a black woman, I'm apprehensive about patronizing black-owned businesses. Everytime I go out of my way to support, I get burned. Miss, you are not doing me a favor. You are providing a service that I am paying for and there are far too many stylists and RUclips tutorials out here to deal with foolishness, greed and bad attitudes. I simply move on to the next. I work too hard for my money.
Very true. Supporting these black hair stylists has become too difficult and ridiculous. People are taking their business elsewhere or doing their hair at home.
Everyone should go on a strike for a while and let them see how they'll survive, I've been through it too many times with beauticians, it's OK if they're late or your hairstyle doesn't come out the way you want it.
You’re one of the good ones… cus I had a girl charge a baby daddy/ boyfriend fee !! No lie !! Like if your bf comes Along with you these hoes want a fee !! I can’t
I'm a hair stylist as well. I've had new clients ask me, do you wash hair or do I have to come with it washed already 😳. I tell them no washing hair is apart of the service. I'm at awe with this, washing hair was the first thing I learned in school. 🤦♀️
You took the words right out of my mouth when you said “I didn’t get your pregnant”. Wow the new stylists have way too many rules I’m glad I’m natural.
I learned how to do my own hair. I saw my stylist at a event, after not seeing her in about a year. She was friendly but asked who did my hair. I smiled and said ME. She was shocked lol people kept asking where I got my hair done which confirmed that RUclips academy did not fail me. Edit: also she wanted her clients to have bone dry hair when doing most styles. I didn’t like having my hair braided dry. The whole point is to keep the hair protected. My hair (most black people’s hair) does well when it’s moisturizered before being braided.
This what happens when these girls don’t have a cosmetology license, because if they did they wash fee wouldn’t exist. You wash your client hair to make sure their hair is clean and healthy but also for you to look over their scalp for abrasion, fungus, or any of the other diseases that you learn about in school.! Also going to school teaches you how to work in a salon…but most states don’t require a license to braid or apply wigs.
I wanted to get my hair braided (knotless) professionally for the first time ever this weekend. I called salons around my city, but they were telling me the craziest things. The services ranged from $230 - 400+, but I needed to come in with my hair washed, blowdried, pre-parted(!!!), and some needed all 3! I was asked how long my hair was and told I’d be charged extra for length. I laughed them off the phone and just did it myself at home for the first time. I was a great way to discover that I’m kinda good at medium knotless braids😂
“Squeeze in fees” cracks me 😂😂😂 first of I’m giving you business. Absolutely crazy. They will charge you a late fee for being 10 minutes late, but when they’re late they will ask for consideration.
I asked for a discount before because my stylist was constantly late and she dismissed me as a client. Ppl have audacity and she lied about my hair smh
Not to mention booking people inthe same time frame and you gotta wait an hour while they finish someone else. I’ve only been in a salon about 3 times but Geesh . Always busy even when you called in advance ….
These stylists are ridiculous. I’m currently in school to become a nail tech & being a consumer has humbled me as to how I will handle my business. I was charged a extra $20 recently when I got my hair braided after the stylist already told me a price. It was for partings because my hair was thicker than she expected smh
I feel like stylists be feeling they self, because they know that everybody can't just learn how to do their own hair, especially when people be busy. Let's talk about these high deposits that can't be returned . Even if the Stylist cancels 🍵
Oh I had one block me from making a lower deposit that is standard for everyone else and tell me I had to pay double. I wanted to scream F*** YOUUUUU through the phone. Never, ever going back no matter how good the styles are.
Back in the day it was a treat to go get your hair done! I use to love it as a little girl. Sitting in the chair under the dryer reading the latest ebony or jet magazines, and by the time the stylist finished you felt like a princess! That's what it should be about, building a rapport with your clientele, not over charging ridiculous fees! These salons and independent stylists are going to lose alot of clientele if they continue to be greedy because people can easily get on youtube watch a tutorial and bam self made stylist!
Facts and the booking even took me a while to get used to because lady you know I'm coming. I've never missed an appointment. I just felt it was too much to do. I come with a tip and everything
Exactly that’s reasonable since ppl do ditch appointments but cmon ppl literally charging for parting. How do you charge for something that literally come with the style( unless you getting a wig). I would never 🤦🏽♀️.
I’ve noticed that these new stylists are trying to keep up with that stripper/rapper girlfriend hood rich materialistic aesthetic and to keep up with appearances they over charge, some of this shit has to be illegal it’s literally price gouging. The only thing I actually agree with is the nail girls I think they have a right to charge high prices with the types of nails that are popular these days ( look up consumer protection laws in your state)
I had someone recommend a stylist to me that was suppose to be really good. I checked the social media page before I booked and was pretty impressed with the work. I had to pay a deposit and a consultation fee. When I was provided the address it turned out to be a home. I don't knock home stylist but at least provide a space in the home to do the work. The space in the home was a bedroom with a auto shop sink you had to stand over and bend your head over. A hard metal folding chair and simple gold and hot handheld blow dryer. The consultation was 5 minutes. These new stylist are ridiculous.
I'm against going to homes simply because of an incident I had. Their home was nasty and work station was nasty. After that I refuse to go to your home
This is why I love RUclips. Taught me how to do my own hair for free 99. I don't deal with these stylists anymore. Plus they treat us 4c hair girls like trash.
That's why I went back to cosmetology school to get my license because these new stylist are getting outrageous. I guess imma be famous for keeping it real and affordable for my clients!
A LOT of these stylists are quick to do mess like this, but their quality of work is well below customer expectations 👏🏾💯! I remember when I got my hair braided the stylist had all kinds of people there, smoking, and being just overall unprofessional.. She even left to pick up her baby daddy from work! I no longer go to the shop anymore.
I don’t remember the last time I let someone in my head. I literally do my own hair wigs and all. I’ve had beauticians that have did the most and it got worst over the years. One lady literally asked if she could take a nap real quick in the middle of doing my hair. I’ve had them text me while I was omw asking me to bring them food . Not to mention the one that want you to have you hair washed before you come but don’t take the money off for you doing half the work. Last but not least asking for a upfront deposit. I’m good I got this!!
I FINALLY found a stylist that give full service. It took me a few years to find her. It's like having an "old fashion" hair stylist. I was shocked when somebody wanted to charge to "dry and curl my hair".....I walked out with a wet head because that's just ridiculous.
I am a certified freelance makeup artist and I almost fell out my chair when I seen the male makeup artist charging for every little detail. That is ridiculous! $400? Sounds like celebrity prices, hell I don't think they even pay that much. As a make-up artist I want my clients to feel like this is someone who cares about wanting my continued clientele. Not trying to drain people pockets. I set one price and the only I would charge extra is putting on lashes. Happy clients is returning clients.
When people realize there is a RUclips video for damn near every style….and most likely the stylists themselves learn from RUclips 😅 I’ve been doing my own hair for close to 10 years….best decision I have ever made. Hair longer and healthier and MONEY SAVED 💪🏾
The only thing I don’t know how to do is blow dry and straighten my hair. I’ve tried a few times and can’t get my hair straight enough. Silk presses are the only reason why I go to the salon
A hairstylist that I went to who was charging a late fee was one hour late to my hair appointment had me waiting in the parking lot. Uphold yourself to the same standard..
Whew! Many of these “hair stylists” today are just plain ignorant, uneducated, unprofessional, entitled, greedy and ghetto! I miss my hair stylist that passed away many years ago. He was professional, skilled, licensed, kind and kept my hair beautiful, healthy and long. The absolute best! I choose to avoid these new “hair stylists” and do my hair myself. I can’t be bothered with the ignorance. When they start losing business they will learn.
I also feel like they, like other businesses, are taking their grievances with inflation out on the regular person who already doesn’t have it. Rather than everyone coming together and challenging why tf prices are going up but are wages are not. I can’t pay your wage for hair if I’m not getting paid what I should be. Also, businesses and llc twitter are hoarding money to whether whatever storm may be coming. Like a severe recession
Ti… Once again, you nailed it! I made an appointment with a traveling stylist with a big IG following known for transforming the look of women with thin/ short hair (obviously a vulnerable market). After I paid a $300 deposit, one of the stylists assistants finally got in touch and started itemizing the cost of each service. And let me know the cost of my appointment would be upwards of $1,400… thank god that leg of the hair tour was canceled since no one else was going for it… but that was a crazy experience… let me bleach/dye my hair myself and go to the barbershop, like I usually do… just sad how these stylists take advantage of a woman’s need to look/feel good.
If a stylist isn’t willing to work on 4c hair, than they’re not a real stylist. They have too many detangling products and tools for them to manage natural hair.
I will do 4c hair but it's an extra fee and I also charge more for length. Time is money and 4c takes more time. If the client doesn't want to pay that's ok. My White Asian and Hispanic clients pay $160 for 45 minutes of color.
THIS is the reason why since 2016, I learned how to do my own makeup, over the pandemic, I’ve learned how to do my own nails, and now I’m braiding mine and my daughter’s hair. I understand people have to live and the people who can pay these prices more power to you. But it’s just not me. I’ve risked my hair getting ruined, my nails looking terrible, just to say I went to the salon. The salon experience may be nice, but I feel 10x more accomplished when people ask me who did my makeup or nails, and I can say me 😎
The nail techs never did my nails the way I asked for and did basically whatever they wanted. Been doing my own everything for ten years now and I always get my nails and hair the way I want!
Craziness. As a West Indian woman (on a tiny Island) - I get a curl/colour which takes about 4 hrs. My long time Hair stylist was off Island and her daughter (who has an 8-4 job) took over her clientele while her Mummy was away. I don't drive. Bussed it earlier but by 8 pm - no buses running. Paid up front with a huge tip. The daughter did an excellent job and literally dropped me to my door step. Now 'that' is Service.
Yes I had a girl try to charge people 300 for a sew in but wanted you to come with clean hair, needle and thread, and SHE WANTED YOU TO COME WITH HAIR ALREADY BRAIDED!! I tell you I bypassed her and booked with another girl. At this point it's getting ridiculous to the point I'm watching videos to learn how to do my own hair.
As someone who grew up with press & curl for $35, I can’t believe the blk hairdressers who don’t do 4c hair, or require you to wash, condition, & detangle your own hair before you come to their shop, but still charge full price. I’m lucky to have good old fashioned hairdressers who still provide full service.
I'm a stylist and why would you want you client to wash and condition your own hair you don't have or use the products I use I am assessing what your hair needs
I wish I had access to some of my old stylist. They probably retired by now...smh. Maybe I might start looking around to see if I have some old school stylists in my area.
You aren't paying for styles anymore you are paying to keep up with the lifestyle these modern hairstyles are trying to keep up with. They wanna be able to vacation here and there fly out here and there every month.
@@BuffyNoir140 yup they are getting called out. Women are saying these stylist won't answer messages. They never get their booked appointment stylist keeping their money.
The worse part is they’ll act indignant about their prices and say sh!t like “well if you don’t like it go somewhere else” And in the same breath complain about no one supporting black businesses 😂
Because they’re unprofessional. These women are immature and need to be required to get certified and take customer service courses. It’s like a bunch of high school girls working in what should be a professional setting.
some hairstylist are charging for their lifestyle and not the actual services that they are providing. Cost of labor in the hair industry hasn’t increased. The salon experience is STRESSFUL and not a great experience. I’ve wasted thousands of dollars on hairstylist/hair and now I just do my own hair.
i got scammed by that recently. i called the salon saying i was running late. i would have been 15 minutes late. i was charged a fee totaling half of the service. i rescheduled with him the next morning out of loyalty. guess what? i arrive 10 minutes early and his ass was late. he had a first time client in his chair. smh. now i regret calling saying i was running late. what if i would have just showed up a little late.
Every time I hear these stories I consider going to cosmetology school. Just by having basic customer service skills and not being entitled I can steal all these customers just wanting to get their hair done and feel pretty.
These “squeeze in” fees are crazy. Lashes, nail tech and now hair stylists are charging extra on top of their services. There are women that pay it, so they think it’s okay to charge. While I respect the home cosmetic industry, the fees are unnecessary.
@@jaeshasway exactly they end up waiting extra time without any compensation. If I’m charged for being late stylist should be taking money off for being late themselves but they don’t and expect you to be okay with it. If you walk out you’re sol for that deposit. Ridiculous. I can’t believe there’s women going for this nonsense.
I feel like most stylists are greedy for charging these ridiculous prices. It's not just charging your worth, it's straight greed and lack of skill. Why would I pay more because you don't know the most efficient methods to do my hair? Once a stylist tried to charge me $50 for having 4c hair and it taking her "too long" to blow dry my hair. I told her no, paid my service and left.
I remember taking my daughter to get a wash and style and the stylist would complain because she had 4C hair and tailbone length when straightened. One stylist tried to convince me to do a relaxer which I refused, another used $1.00 shampoo and conditioner and charged me over a hundred dollars to style. It was picture day which I couldn't cancel and her and the assistant was an hour late. Another, told me don't come back unless I relax my hair because it was too thick and long. The only time I understood paying more was because the stylist was willing to come in at 5 am in the morning to do my daughter's hair for another picture day. All she wanted was to be paid up front before starting because others have ran out without paying. I was fine with that and tipped her for her time. I personally learned how to do my own hair and bought the styling tools to do my own hair. I also get better service at the colleges who has the cosmetology and dermatologist classes. I can get a chemical peel/ microdermobrasion and a wash and style. I'm not cheap when it comes to tipping plus their being monitored by the instructor.
Remember when the everyone was going natural and the stylist were complaining about losing money. Bet you a lot more people are going to go back natural or learn how to do their own hair and hear these stylist complaining again about loss of customers. I guess they didn't learn the first time.
Doing a wash day treatment on my 4c hair as I watch/listen to this outrageous mess. In 2012, I went in for some Senegalese twists and the lady tried to charge me $$$ because my hair is thick. I don't even want to know how much she'd try to charge today. She made it clear that I was getting charged more because of the volume of my hair, and others were charged less. I walked my happy ass down the block to a competitor who had more reasonable prices, but even that relationship ended after someone in that establishment decided to rip out my hair. These abuses have been going on forever. They're just trying to find more ways to finesse clients, and these women are letting them. As much as I don't like doing my own hair, at least I'm not bald-headed, and broke from dealing with these swindlers.
I’m pregnant (7 about to be 8 months) and still doing hair. I’ve increased some style prices by $10 at most due to the increase in the hair prices. I include hair in majority of my styles. If I don’t have the hair I deduct some of the price. I refuse to charge no more than $180 on a style. I feel like getting your hair done is self care which is essential. Since it is that in my eyes no one should not be charged that much. These fees are getting ridiculous man it’s absolutely crazy.
I grew up in my granny's salon. This would never fly. That's why , when she retired I started doing my own hair. Cause these stylists don't actually want to WORK
I stopped going to a beautician approx 8-10 yrs ago. I was tired of blowing my entire Saturday (double booked, late etc) for a style that was cute for a couple of days, then looked like I did it the rest of the week.
@@ShawnieEllis thank you Lady Vampress. You must have had the same experience. 😀. My hair us growing & it looks just as good as going to the beauty shopso I must be doing something right. Thank you & take care Lady. Tina in Cali
I live in LA and my stylist charges a reasonable price. She is always on time and starts on time. If something comes up she always communicates that with me. She does charge a $25 holding fee which will be added to your overall bill. She also does celebrity clients as well but her prices are still reasonable. I’m with ti, there is no way I’m paying extra charges for pregnancy or other ridiculousness. I didn’t know stylists were acting like this. This is crazy.
I have had my stylist for since 2012 and I LOVE her. She rocked with me and under charged me for a year. When she increased her price I INCREASED my tip. I only got to her for all my hair needs. She is a hardworker and I am a repeat client because she takes her time.
Yep, these fees are outrageous. I wanted to get my curly hair cut and shaped, but the stylist stated that if you have thick hair there is an extra fee. That confused the heck out of me. Needless to say, I cut, shape and style my own hair. These stylists are out of pocket.
When I was pregnant with my twins at about 6 months pregnant I stopped doing hair. I swelled all the way up one day. My husband said he did not know why I was still doing hair. I didn’t charge no pregnancy fee either. These new stylists are doing way tooo much.
That’s why I keep a fresh wig and ponytail. I have no energy for the salon and even less for at home stylists. A lady quoted me at 600$ for box braids and I wish I would pay that much.
😳 $600?!??! You can get mid length to long box braids in my area in Alabama for about $85-220. They trying to have folks pay they rent for the simplest of styles
Listen it’s the truth…I refuse to pay more than $300 for styles that gonna last me two months…..the most I’ll pay is $280 anything after that….that’s a HELL NOOOOOO….I’ll invest in a wig that will last a lot longer and then the TOUCH UP price is RIDICULOUS $200 for 2 rows and you have to wash it and take it out yourself
Traveling fee is absolutely necessary, we bring a lot of materials carrying it is laborious. My nail kit weighs 120lbs but I bring the salon to you… packing it up and set up and break down takes time & extra preparation.. a fee is appropriate
This why I haven’t been to a stylist in over 20years. I do my own hair, makeup etc and If I want to try something new… I come to RUclips to learn. Shout out to the hair and makeup content creators!!!!! You are appreciated!!!
These stylists are out of control. I saw one that charged $3500 to do a bride’s hair. It wasn’t even a extravagant hairstyle either 🤦🏾♀️. Not to mention the ones that want your hair washed and detangled beforehand. I only go to one hairstylist whose a certified cosmetologist and charges fairly for natural hair services since she specializes in that.
Chile, that's why I thank God for my long-time, old school hair stylist. Why was I literally thinking about this very thing right before this video popped up lol? What a coincidence!

And have attitude on top of that
Ti… Once again, you nailed it!
Well if your White, Asian & Hispanic clients allow u to rip them off then good for u
@@tomarasmith4459 sorry but as a cheap woman I would never pay more than 80$ for hair.
@@tomarasmith4459 bad excuse.
@@angelacooper8973 Then you won't be receiving my services. The product alone for color is $40.
At this point it's getting ridiculous to the point I'm watching videos to learn how to do my own hair.
wow your own needle thread and braid WTF is the point of booking her you're damn near doing it your self smh
What purpose did she serve then?
RUclips University is in my house💯‼️ In the name of Jesus I rebuke those fee, Amen.
Hell if I get someone to braid my hair I will see it in myself. Bump that she’s lazy.
The audacity. Silly woman at that point I'm my own stylist!
As someone who grew up with press & curl for $35, I can’t believe the blk hairdressers who don’t do 4c hair, or require you to wash, condition, & detangle your own hair before you come to their shop, but still charge full price. I’m lucky to have good old fashioned hairdressers who still provide full service.
the surprising thing here is that 4c that's like 90% of black people. which makes me wonder who she gon' style.
I'm a stylist and why would you want you client to wash and condition your own hair you don't have or use the products I use I am assessing what your hair needs
I wish I had access to some of my old stylist. They probably retired by now...smh. Maybe I might start looking around to see if I have some old school stylists in my area.
I will NEVER EVER pay any of those ridiculous fees PERIODT‼️
You aren't paying for styles anymore you are paying to keep up with the lifestyle these modern hairstyles are trying to keep up with. They wanna be able to vacation here and there fly out here and there every month.
Exactly. Then they want to be tipped. I usually tip but not for bad service or rushed .
@@BuffyNoir140 yup they are getting called out. Women are saying these stylist won't answer messages. They never get their booked appointment stylist keeping their money.
💯 🎯 ....... lots of money hungry scammers calling themselves stylist these days. Smdh
The worse part is they’ll act indignant about their prices and say sh!t like “well if you don’t like it go somewhere else”
And in the same breath complain about no one supporting black businesses 😂
Because they’re unprofessional. These women are immature and need to be required to get certified and take customer service courses. It’s like a bunch of high school girls working in what should be a professional setting.
@@BlackGirlLovesAnime6 I agree. This is why I’ve been doing my own hair for years. It’s not perfect but I’m not paying $200 for the bare minimum
This is why I went back to being natural. I couldn't put up with the stylists attitude, extra fees & sitting in the salon all day
These prices have become ridiculous at this point. Some people are just too full of greed.
Everyone bout the bag💰 and comparing lifestyles on sm
I'm more upset with the folks who continue to pay. As long as they keep paying these stylists will continue to do what they do.
some hairstylist are charging for their lifestyle and not the actual services that they are providing. Cost of labor in the hair industry hasn’t increased. The salon experience is STRESSFUL and not a great experience. I’ve wasted thousands of dollars on hairstylist/hair and now I just do my own hair.
They charge you all of those bogus fees for their time and services, but when THEY ARE LATE, they don't give you a refund or a discount!
i got scammed by that recently. i called the salon saying i was running late. i would have been 15 minutes late. i was charged a fee totaling half of the service. i rescheduled with him the next morning out of loyalty. guess what? i arrive 10 minutes early and his ass was late. he had a first time client in his chair. smh. now i regret calling saying i was running late. what if i would have just showed up a little late.
Girl I seen someone have a “falling asleep charge” for $100 I couldn’t believe it, that’s just greed.
wtffffff 😩😂🤣
Whaaaaattttt... We need to out all of em! This is absurd
WAIT ✋️ Who fell asleep?😴 The stylist or the customer... makes no sense either way😭
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 In that case I would owe thousands!
Noooooo 😩
Every time I hear these stories I consider going to cosmetology school. Just by having basic customer service skills and not being entitled I can steal all these customers just wanting to get their hair done and feel pretty.
These “squeeze in” fees are crazy. Lashes, nail tech and now hair stylists are charging extra on top of their services. There are women that pay it, so they think it’s okay to charge. While I respect the home cosmetic industry, the fees are unnecessary.
Imagine the client that person is getting squeezed in-front of. 🤦🏽♀️
THE SPIRIT HAIRLINES had me crying!!!🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn’t tip especially when someone say don’t come back till you relax your hair that’s rude as f’
@@Sunny-tc3ul I never went back to that lady but I agree with you. After the incident I started doing my own hair and leaving it up in braids.
I get charging more due length of the hair, but some just do to damn much
Remember when the everyone was going natural and the stylist were complaining about losing money.
2 much
Still too much
I grew up in my granny's salon. This would never fly. That's why , when she retired I started doing my own hair. Cause these stylists don't actually want to WORK
Exactly!!!
I stopped going to a beautician approx 8-10 yrs ago. I was tired of blowing my entire Saturday (double booked, late etc) for a style that was cute for a couple of days, then looked like I did it the rest of the week.
Nothing but the truth!
@@ShawnieEllis thank you Lady Vampress. You must have had the same experience. 😀. My hair us growing & it looks just as good as going to the beauty shopso I must be doing something right. Thank you & take care Lady. Tina in Cali
Let’s just respect ourselves and only spend money with those who deserve it. These unnecessary fees are scams.
Exactly!! I agree 💯
The best way to disagree with someone's business practices is to not go. Why argue??
I have had my stylist for since 2012 and I LOVE her. She rocked with me and under charged me for a year. When she increased her price I INCREASED my tip. I only got to her for all my hair needs. She is a hardworker and I am a repeat client because she takes her time.
Now, that's the kind of relationship you want with your hairstylist
*Ur a good customer a stylist would love 4 life*
Yep, these fees are outrageous. I wanted to get my curly hair cut and shaped, but the stylist stated that if you have thick hair there is an extra fee. That confused the heck out of me. Needless to say, I cut, shape and style my own hair. These stylists are out of pocket.
I don’t let nobody play in my hair too many fails with these stylists in the past. My pockets and my hair is fuller!
And I thought $300 was a lot! 😮😮😮
OMG! Box braids here in Arkansas are $180. Wow!
She’s a scammer, $300 is bad enough.
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
I saw that tik tok the bride had actually explained why it cost that much it was to fly the stylist in and hotel stay
Nooooo! Why did the bride pay that???
I can relate to your journey!
Horrible experience with hairstyle with my natural hair.
This is why start doing my own hair because with all the fees I'm paying $200 for a style that will last one day
If it last that long
Ppl really out here paying $125 for a PONYTAIL. It takes an hour maybe an hour and a half. I even saw someone charging 185 for a ponytail🥴😳
@@arobles8346 OMG, that’s crazy
Chile, that's why I thank God for my long-time, old school hair stylist. She's been a licensed and certified (something a lot of these new folks are not) beautician/cosmetologist for over 30 plus years, and at 30 years old I wouldn't go to nobody else. These folks are a trip. Now, that Spirit Hairlines music video is a mess... Jade is a trip lol 😂
It be the black American hair stylist that do this😂😂
@@Kimdontgothere I wouldn't know if it wasn't for these videos and viral moments... I've had two great stylists most of my high school and adult life 🤷🏾♀️

It's been years since I've been to a beautician. But I'll be damned if I'd pay all these nonsensical fees. Ladies, order pizzas/sodas and start having "hair parties." Do each other's hair.
