  • This visit to the museum was by no means planned but that place happened to be met on the way and of course a video of such an interesting place has to be made!
The video has a length of almost 2 hours and in that time I only had time to scratch the surface of this place, if there is a route to Jyväskylä Tikkakoski, it is definitely worth deviating here.
And if you get to visit, it's worth booking more hours ...
Below is a link to the museum's website:

    Brewster 239, BW-372
During the battle on June 25, 1942, the Russian Hurricanes and MiGs managed to damage the BW-372 aircraft flown by Lieutenant Lauri Pekuri so badly that it caught fire and Pekuri had to make a forced landing on Lake Seesjärvi near the Seesjärvi in the then Soviet Union. Pekuri was rescued from the plane, swam ashore and walked back to the Finns. You can find more information about Pekuri in this pdf.
At the initiative of the Finnish fighter ace Heimo Lamme, the Finnish Timo Nyman and the Russian Vladimir Prytkov and their assistants are looking for a plane for the National Museum of Naval Aviation. After four years of extensive exploration, Timo Nyman found the plane near Segeza in the Big Lake in June 1998. Vladimir Prytkov and his team lifted the plane in August 1998.
After many stages, the aircraft was transferred to Ireland in December 1998. From there, the aircraft ended up in the Naval Museum in Pensacola in 2004, from where it was lent to the Central Finland Aviation Museum for three and a half years. The loan period has been further extended and according to the new agreement, BW will be in our exhibition for the period 2020 - 2022. The search team and the Aviation Museum want to bring out the BW-372 to honor the veterans and their sacrifices.
BW-372 was brought from NMNA to Finland at the request of the Air Force Commander to celebrate the 90th anniversary of our Air Force. A significant number of both Finnish and American people have taken part in the negotiations to get the plane.
The Brewster has not been restored to air condition, but has been preserved for the exhibition (with damage during the forced landing) to the condition it was lifted from Kolejärvi. Dirt, mud, algae, etc. components not belonging to the aircraft have been removed Damage caused during lifting and transfers has been largely repaired. The conservation of the cab and wing fabrics will continue in the exhibition
