@TH126 On the box, it is recommended that you have a 400 Watt Power supply. However, I went ahead and did it with the 300 Watt anyway, and it works fine. My system's slots are pretty much filled and I haven't had any problems. I am also running the Wifi card, a firewire card, a second hard drive, as well as a bluray drive in addition to the original dvd drive. So I think you should be fine upgrading to this model graphics card.
There could be a problem with power draw, as even though power connectors are not needed, you are still drawing over 100Watts through the PCIe slot. I am not sure what kind of power supply you have, but if it is only 300Watts, AMD recommends having 400Watts. Even though in this video I only needed 300, the 6570 being a more powerful card, it might actually need what they say.
I have had this card for almost two years and I am still using it today. It is working well, it just doesn't have top of the line performance considering how inexpensive it is. It is just fine for typical computer tasks, just not gaming.
No. I did use so power supply calculators online before doing this thought. Those calculators said I had enough wattage, so I went ahead and did it. I am assuming the reason the specs on the box are the way they are is so the company doesn't have to provide support to people who don't follow them.
This card was purchased from Fry's Electronics. It may still be for sale, although we might consider getting an HD 6450 card, which is basically a new version of this card.
@haynesdustinb if you were looking at using two monitors it would also allow you to do that. Or if you wanted HDMI out to a tv. Other than that, just slightly better graphics.
I bought this card at Fry's Electronics for $30 after rebate about a year ago. Right now you can get this exact card for a little more than that on amazon. On the box it will probably say that you need at 400Watt Power Supply. If you have the same computer as me you only have a 300Watt Power Supply, however, I installed it with no problems, so I wouldn't worry about that.
It shouldn't really be that much of a problem. Some people will say that you should uninstall old drivers before installing the new card, but the truth is, you will likely be able to boot up in a low resolution mode with a generic driver, and at that point you can go and get the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website. If you are having trouble doing this, you can try installing the drivers while still using the old card.
@deighbo The windows performance score was low on it for "aero performance", but it ran fine, and was definately improved over the built in graphics. I am not running this card in the inspiron anymore, as I have upgraded to a custom built computer.
I do like my 5450. Right now I am running it with an AMD fx-6100, although previously I ran it with a core 2 duo. I had a lot of blue screens due to a bad drive update, but after doing another those were fixed. I am looking to upgrade for sure though, it just isn't at the top of my list for upgrades.
I don't think so, because I was able to find a power supply calculator on google, and it said that with the setup in this video, the power supply would need to be at least 289 Watts, which is really close. So I would say if you are getting a higher spec card you would need to get another PSU, and I am not sure if you can replace the one in that dell case.
It is possible that taking the card out, and making sure it is properly seated in the slot will solve your problem. If not, there could have been a problem while the installer was installing the drivers. So try reinstalling. It is also possible that your power supply isn't high enough wattage, if you don't have at least 300Watts, you could have a problem. Finally, you could just have a defective card, and assuming it is new, the manufacturer should replace the card for you. Hope this helps.
Whether or not the video has to buffer has to do with the speed of your internet connection, and upgrading your graphics card will have no affect on it vs playing that file locally.
Not really sure what it is your asking. These cards don't get hot enough to need a fan on them. But if it did, it wouldn't matter how many fans you have on your CPU as you would need one directly on the heat sink.
Assuming you have a independent video card in there yes. Some computers have integrated graphics on the motherboard, and it just depends on the computer. This looks like a pretty standard tower computer, you shouldn't have to do anything other than making sure you have an open slot, and either taking out the old card, or removing the slot cover.
I wouldn't consider myself an expert either, but here are some things I would think about when choosing a graphics card: Do you want to play graphics intensive games? Are you doing video editing? Are you looking for multiple monitors? Do you just want a simple card for doing things like word docs, and spreadsheets? ATI cards are different series example: 6xxx. You will notice that card where the last 3 numbers are higher are more expensive, these will have better performance.
Try going to the start menu, typing in Device Manager, clicking on that, and find your graphics card in the list. Then look around for the option to either: a) update the drivers, or b)roll back to drivers. If this doesn't work, try downloading the latest drivers from the AMD website.
@deighbo This graphics card has no fans, but neither does the built in graphics, the cpu has the fan. When I had this card in my dell, I didn't really notice a noise improvement, but then again I wasn't expecting it, or looking for it. If you want your pc to run less noisily, you can look into getting a new cpu cooler, or replacing case fans with larger ones, but with a prebuilt system from a vendor (dell I am assuming), it is likely neither of these things will be possible. Good Luck!
Ok. Make Sure it is lined up with the correct slot. Unfortunately you will need to apply so force. So double check that you are lined up and putting it in the correct slot, and if you are still having trouble, lay your computer down on it's side on that should make it easier for you.
That sounds about right. Since I built this system I have been planning on upgrading the graphics card when I get around to it, so the 5450 was just from my old pc.
I would recommend doing some measurements, but I am pretty sure you won't be getting that graphics card to fit. As for the power supply, it might fit, but you might not be able to get it to mount properly. If you want to do these upgrades you could still keep the current motherboard, hard drive, dvd drive, ram, processor, ect. but I would recommend a coolermaster HAF 912, which is a good value, and gives plenty of room for expansion.
It's possible your power supply can't supply enough power. It is also possible that the card isn't all the way in the slot. It is also possible that it is a driver problem. Although it is unlikely, because you should be able to start the computer with the built in Windows driver. That should happen automatically, so it is probably one of the first two.
@YounggHustle first take the card out, but it back in and make sure it is all the way in. if that doesnt work use the onboard graphics card and install the drivers, then hook up your monitor to the card. If that doesnt work you might have to send the card back and get a new one.
You're right. It is very easy to build a computer. All I had to do was watch a few videos online, and I didn't even have to read the instruction manuals. As for building vs buying, some people will argue that it is cheaper to buy, but even then, I still would like to build.
What you really need is an open PCI-Express x16 slot. In the Inspiron 530, the power supply is only 300 Watts, so you aren't going to be able to get anything higher than an HD 5450, as it will draw to much power. You could get another power supply, but then it might not mount in the case properly, you just never know. Unless you are looking to do dual monitors, the HD 5450 isn't much better than the built in graphics. As for RAM, I would go as high as you can go.
It can run anything, just at lower resolutions than you would expect with higher end cards. 640x480 smoothly for sure, but after that I haven't done that much testing.
Ok, so it appear that you have a form of a slim tower pc, which means you will have to use the smaller bracket. This means that you won't be able to fit the card in as is. This also means you won't be able to use the vga (blue) cable without a DVI to VGA adpater. As for how to screw the bracket in, you will have to remove the exsisting one, but having never done it, I can't say much about that.
+sometimes you need to install the drivers 1st or change bios to allow display from a 2nd gpu etc for mine i use nvidia and have no problems plug and play i did also install drivers for full compatibility but it outputs from the graphics card and the pc mobo :)
First thing to try is to try and install the drivers, and look for something obvious in Device Manager, if your running windows. Second thing, is to look around in your BIOS for anything that seems obvious. You can access the BIOS by pressing F2, or Del. at startup. Third thing, if none of this works, search on Google, because there are probably other people having the same problem. Finally, I don't know if you've done this, but try taking the card out and making sure it is in all the way.
First check all the cables are plugged in, one could be not attached all the way. Then in Windows 7, right click on the desktop and go to Screen Resolution. Click on Detect, and you should be ready to set things up.
Well most of the time, online sellers, like to include the "pre-built system" which means, they charge you for building it, so yes. You can save upto £100 maybe more, as you can often find some parts on sale.
This card should be good for that, although I would compare the cards that are usually slightly more expensive than this one, because a more expensive one could be on sale for the same price.
Usually it is only a motherboard or a processor change that will make windows want to reactivate. A graphics card should be fine, I haven't had any issues with it before.
hey, today i bought this card at 40 dollars including all shipping and taxes in my country it worth its price its really a very nice card its running all recent games at mid settings and older games at high settings its perfect. my fav skyrim is running smoothly at mid settings and resolution. thanks for your reply.
You're probably best of going to the amd website, so you get the most recent drivers. Even after installing, you might still have to change the screen resolution. Right click the desktop, choose Screen Resolution, and choose the recommended setting.
Based on the link that is in my description (labeled for a commenter), you should have a slot for it. Now I don't know if your computer would already have something in that slot, you would have to look for yourself. Another concern would be the power supply, and the website says 305 Watts, so even though the card is recommended 400 Watt, you should be fine.
I haven't had any problems, although I have got an occasional blue screen, every two or three months, but I cannot be certain that it because of this graphics card. You might have a defective card, I would say trying calling the support number and see if they will send you a replacement.
I don't know for sure what the problem, but I can tell you a few things to try. So 1st make sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card, and make sure the cable isn't badly bent, or not connected all the way. If that doesn't work take out the graphics card, and put it back in, make sure you push in all the way. If that doesn't work, I am not sure.
A long as your power supply can supply enough power, you should be good to go. Look up an online power supply calculator and you can use that to get a general idea.
yea still the 5450 is a winner in my book worthy of any budget system. that 560 ti will do you good tho. also are you a female or a young boy? just curious
thanks for the vid. iam not an extreme or serious gamer but i do like gaming, so do you think it will be enogh to run recent games on low resolution and mid settings? like skyrim.
If you want to have a more basic computer, with light or no gaming, you can go with lower numbers like 5450, these are the lower end cards, that are great, but just aren't for serious gamers. As for Nvidia cards, I haven't done much research, so I would recommend you do some searching for that on google.
You should be able to run games at low resolutions (although I haven't tested it), but really, if you want to do any gaming, you should try and get the highest end card you can.
i had a 5450 for a cool min its a great card can run most games on at lead mid settings. and for 30 bucks mine was a 512mb its an awsome card. i reciently upgraded to the 8800 gts much older but far better runs most games maxed with no aa and mid to high textures. for a 6 year old card its very happy. but how do you like your 5450 and what cpu do you have (i have an athlon ii x4 640 3.0 ghz)
Thank you for the quick response. I do have an integrated card and an empty slot so installation should be easy but I do have one more question. I have an extra DVI-D cable that I want to try. Would this card be compatible? with it? Would graphics on a DVI-D cable be better than on a VGA cable?
I have no idea whether or not you will have the right connector, I would say just take a look around in your computer, if you have it, it will be dangling somewhere. If you know the particular model you have you can search online for a manual and it might tell you in there.
I had trouble with that as well. You need to grab from the edge nearest that is away from you and slide it off. I'm sorry, but there isn't much more I can tell you to help you get it off. I am going to put a link in the description to the manual for the computer, the diagram on page 130 might help you out.
OK the card doesnt work while installed in the slot I get a black screen I have an older HP Pavillion desktop I'm trying to build up rather than throw away it has an intergrated card. I can only load the cd before I put the card in but once installed and I plug up monitor it doesnt light up. Whats going on?
I am planning to upgrade my Dell XPS 8300 with this video card later this month. Wouldn't I have to take out the old card before installing the new one? Would I need anything extra to make the 5450 compatible with my system?
First I would do a search on Google for a "Power Supply Calculator" just to make sure, because whether or not you have enough power depends on the rest of your computer, it sounds like you will be ok. As for the Core 2 Duo putting a bottleneck on the card, I wouldn't think so considering this is an entry-level card. I'd say this card does great for running dual monitors, without playing an games, but will it give you a noticeable performance increase over built in graphics, no.
does it matter what motherboard i have ? also sorry for asking allotof questions but if i can only upgrade to 4gb of ram what graphics card would you recommend for my dell inspiron 530 ?
Hey, I was wondering, I have an Inspiron 530 like you, and wanted to install a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870, would it fit in the case? It looks like it might, but I'm not sure. And, would a TX650W Corsair fit in as the PSU? You may not know about the PSU because this vid isn't even about PSUs, but any help is useful lol, this is the first time I'm even touching the inside of my PC.
I have this card and basically ame comp, I put in card and downloaded drivers offline as I was missing cd, but after a reboot it's still not doing anything at all, seems to be running fine just without any graphics at all now... Can you suggest anything?
PLEASE REPLY!!! Once I install the graphics card, do I need to plug anything into the card? Because there's two places in the back of the computer where I have the option to plug something into the card. Is this necessary? Also, it may help to know that I previously had an integrated graphics card.
Well, if you are actually looking for good graphics performance for games and stuff like that, you should definitely be looking at more expensive cards than this one. If you are just looking for multiple monitors for things like checking email, and web surfing, this card should be fine, especially if your computer doesn't have built in graphics.
ok im thinking of upgrading mines to 4gb and the same graphics card, after that will windows make me re-register it since the hardware have been changed ?
i did all of that already i have been trying to get this to hork for almost a week now. i know how to set up dual monitors i just cant get this to work for some reason.
Actually I got it to work automatically when I powered up the computer. It's been off for five days and it recognized it. I had used the software which came with the new video card :-)
PLEASE HELP ME OUT! I got this GPU and when ever I start a directx game it says !d3dx9_43.dll is either not designed to run windows.." and I have already updated directx, redownloaded the file, updated the GPU, nothing seems to be helping, please help me out!
The struggle is real with that setup
LOL
The card runs in the 50-60°C range. Haven't had any overheat problems, it is pretty consistent.

It runs video in HD just fine. I might consider getting one that is a step up from this one though.
this seems a lot of work but the tempt to play games we don't have a choice but to upgrade
You need to right click on the desktop and click screen resolution. Then change resolution to the highest numbers it will go.
yea still the 5450 is a winner in my book worthy of any budget system.
that 560 ti will do you good tho.

Very informative video, I got a dell inspiron 530 myself. I recently obtained a nividia geforce 8600 GT, would that be compatible with the system?
@nwil91198 Did it seem to run better or quieter? I know with the factor card the fan is loud when I play any type of media on it.

You should plug the monitor into the graphics card, that way you will take advantage of the graphics from the card, and not the integrated graphics.
Sounds ok based on the requirements, I haven't been doing much gaming though, so I couldn't really speak from my own experience.
@nwil91198 A new one to what...? Something lower than the radeon hd 5450?
Amateur of PC here
1 question : how can you chose the best graphic card for your computer not too strong or not too weak ?
I would get a Radeon 6850 (I have it installed on my inspiron) but I had to change the mobo and get a core i3 into it, works fine.
PLEASE REPLY!!! Once I install the graphics card, do I need to plug anything into the card? Because there's two places in the back of the computer where I have the option to plug something into the card. Is this necessary? Also, it may help to know that I previously had an integrated graphics card.
It depends what games you are planning on playing. You might want to go with a higher end graphics card. 5450 is not really a gaming card.
Did you have to upgrade your power supply with this card? I have the same computer and would like to finally upgrade.
I have the same video card but i cant get the dual monitors to work.
You didnt have to change you power supply or any mods??? thanks..
Not really, that card only gets 25W on idle, if you have a single HDD, 2 RAM sticks a 250W could work.
I got it.. Thanks this vid helped alot
I Installed this card and the instalation media is borky and the card renders only black screen
do you have the stock power supply that came with the computer?
What do you mean about "Ruins Gaming"?

This card runs Minecraft great, with everything set to max it gets anywhere from 50-120 FPS
Actually I got it to work automatically when I powered up the computer. It's been off for five days and it recognized it. I had used the software which came with the new video card :-)
I have the same CPU, how has the card performed so far?
i tried the card and it gave me a blank screen when i turned on my computer and i had the monitor plugged into the gcard
