To be real, it isn't diverse for all the people. I have never seen anyone with a realistic sim, but thats the thing EA likes to do, because your game gets more diverse with every add-on you buy.
They actually just recently expanded their skin tones :) they now separate by warm, cool, and neutral tones, and each section has dozens of options ranging from light to dark with different undertones. It’s awesome Edit: you can also adjust the saturation of each of the skin tones

They really don’t want us to have anything smh as if it’s somehow “taking away” from what they’re automatically given. We spend our money on entertainment and should be able to be represented in a real way.
I don't know why they couldn't apply the different colour sliders to hair, eyes, and clothes while they were making skin tones. I need sims 3 CAS in sims 4. Also, we need more hair colour shades.
Right? It's the simplest programming solution. The answer is lack of representation; even just highlight overlays would remove the facial flatness, but EA would have to LISTEN to their female developers.
Because they wanted it to run better on lower end specs. Which was too big a sacrifice. They shouldve just done the sliders and made it more hard to run, especially given that PC specs get better every year for cheaper. The more colors or instances of colors you load in the laggier it gets. Thats one of the reasons why TS3 runs so poorly even today on good systems.
I’m fine with no sliders for clothes or objects, as that would be a huge overhaul and would really affect how well the game runs and the specs and stuff, but they absolutely need to do it for hair colors.
I think there has been a level a laziness that the sims team has come to. CC exists, so they don’t feel the need to fix their problems. But they forget about the players who can’t use CC or don’t want to. A game that is geared towards playing with life shouldn’t only include certain ethnicities.
Follow the money, honey. This is not about people getting the most from base game because that's all they can afford... The Sims is basically an open source game that sells what was once innovation is pieces and parts. The fact that the Sims 2 had SO much gameplay and lore in the base.... When they figured out they could parcel each piece of what made the game great in $40 parts, that is exactly what they did. & Then CC creators are left to fill in the gaps, which on the one hand allows people to have choices in what their game ultimately looks like (color schemes through reshades, alpha VS maxis match, etc)... But any & all of these options will cost you. They have not made any forward progression in terms of the actual GAME QUALITY, since Sims 2. More like lateral moves, as a player who did Sims 1, 2 & 4. I skipped Sims 3 because I was so unimpressed with how it compared to TS2. They also keep trying to push Sims as a multiplayer game, and I've literally never heard any simmer actually say they want that. This is an introvert's game, and if they make random people's Sims show up as townies in my fucking game I promise I will skip TS5 just like TS3 & Sims Online.
The point is not to make Sims look realistic in a sense but it is to make it known that in order to have different skin tones, hair textures, and etc for Black people we have to resort to getting CC. When we should have the same amount of diversity as other races in the base game 🤷🏾.
i’ve tried making black sims but i always ended up making them look white bc of the lack of options they had for black sims 🥺 cc made everything better. wish the devs were as inclusive as cc creators.

I feel like people are either expecting far too much realism from a video game, or just aren't actually as good at making Sims as they think they are....
@@MsTheMayan I'm Ojibwe, Native American and can see how some outfits might be considered culturally sensitive. Especially our sacred head dresses and feathers. But, I'm sure if another CC Ojibwe designed it for them then it would be very respectful and tasteful. Same for all of the other nationalities who deserve a chance to express themselves.
There are so many cultures tho! How would they go about doing that? The content creator collab with EA is a step in that direction, but with various nationalities how could they do that? They may get monolithic and hire one person to represent a group? And we don't want that, but it's also less costly. Or they could implement a feature for various groups to submit presets, hairstyles, clothing, cultural ties, and they can pick themselves for the next update. That way it would feel like we’re contributing more to the game!
@ThaBoss25 If I may counter your argument, I understand the technological and financial issues you are posing, however is that really a justifiable reason for them not having at least an equal amount of BIPOC styles and skintones? Or providing this slider to make those tones more diverse and accessible? I just don't really see why EA has to focus on the European look, when that's not the only one in existence. Not to mention wouldn't they receive more income if they'd appeal to more than the white European/American market? It has to start somewhere right?
I'm replying to a lot of the comments of seen so far! Of course, EA isn't racist! That's not the point of the video! People play the sims 4 for different reasons but many people wont to play themselves in funny moments being an astronaut in space or having a pet racon, so obviously, people would really want to recreate themselves. For black people, it's harder to create sims that they feel represent themselves. Of course, this video is about black people specifically and getting their voices heard but this is also a problem for different people as well! A lot of the Sims 4 presets are really European and American characteristics and people would like to see Asian people, African American People, Middle Eastern people, and I'm sure people would be really happy with the different cultural dress too! People saying they wish they were represented more in somethings isn't calling that something racist they are just pointing on something that they think should be improved! And thank you have a good day!
I haven't played Sims in quite a while, but when I last opened it, it didn't have a lot of variety or realistic options for anyone really. The custom Sims in this video look absolutely amazing and represent the ladies really well, but without custom content even I can't make a Sim look like me. And I am white. They just never had many nose shapes and especially hair colours. Did that change? I obviously imply that Sims just aren't realistic or representative and that that applies to basically everyone, but what I find very noticeable in this video is that there infact isn't any fitting makeup for black Sims. The makeup looks bad in general, but it's also way too light for darker skin tones. So in conclusion I wonder if the problem with the Sims is mostly about race or just partly about race and partly about being just unrealistic.
@@geschmacklos_ I think that it is unrealistic in a way because it's a cartoon game but they could also definitely work on adding new facial features for everyone! The point of the makeup sliders was to help people with darker skin tones and they tried but for a lot of the darker skin tones, it still doesn't work. I'm a person of color (biracial) and I don't find it too hard to make sims like me but I definitely recognize the lack of representation of facial features, hair, and makeup in the sims. I think that there is definitely an ongoing want for better skin tones and makeups, which we just got, and better hair colors and features which we are still waiting on. It would be really cool to get an update with just more features textured hairstyles and hair colors and more representation which is what a lot of people want but I don't think EA is planning on that anytime soon!
ea isn't racist but the sims developers have some racist tendencies towards literally every race 🤣 it's like 4 out of touch people who have the most say too. but they're getting better
Sims 5 will have like three options for skin color. They are going to make an add on pack with your suggestion of all the different races and skin tones, hair, and eyes. Get more money at of us chumps. I can see it now.
It’s funny that a lot of comments assumed the women were calling EA racist which isn’t correct at all. I see a lot of gamers of all races talk about how the mods are so much better that what SIMS provide. This goes from creating sims to homes and other things. If the video had a mixed group of people I don’t think the comments would have gone in the direction that they have.
Well I also commented that I as a white woman experienced the same issue, and it seems that a lot of the people here didn’t like that. So in their opinion, it’s acceptable for all races except white I guess. A lot of people do want to make it a race thing.
@@l3o867 Ok, well the rest aren’t automatically for white people. They had to have a variety that would include all people. They had a range of skin tones from very light to very dark, I’m sorry if you only considered a certain number of them to be black. But there are also white people, Asian people, Indian people, Hispanic people, etc. and they all need skin tones too. And same thing for hair, they needed hair for short or long, straight, curly, or Afro texture, and there needed to be a variety. So there was. It’s about all people not just one race, so it can’t just be a variety of only Afro textured styles either. In my original comment I stated that I have super long hair, past my bottom. And some people have it the same way I do for religious reasons. Did they have hair like that? No. But I also didn’t try to say they were discriminating because they weren’t, it’s just not as common and it’s a video game so they had to include a few select styles for all types of people.
I think the worst thing in the game is the "afro" they literally put a ball, drew some curls on it and put it on the sim's heads. I'm not black, but i think everyone knows that real afros don't look like that.

I am forever floored at the sheer talent found in CC creators. It's amazing that they're able to make sims look that good! Yet a big company like EA can't do this for an established property with paid staff. Exactly what Taylor-Simoné said at 14:02. It's not that they can't do it, they're just not doing it. And that's incredibly sad. EA needs to do better.
I'm not black but I am brown and something that has always upset me is the limited options for people of color. And its even harder because I play on playstation and have no access to cc. EA really needs to change this stuff.
It's so frustrating when EA takes away things we love about the game and gives us the runaround when we ask for things to improve gameplay! And honestly? If it weren't for the cc creators i would have stopped playing the game years ago.
I mean, the Sims 4 presets are lacking period. There are basically only 4 different types of noses, all in different widths. I have a long, pointy nose and never have been able to make it using the dragging option. But then again, I usually don't have the desire to make myself, so it's not an issue for me.
I just recently found out about custom content and man is it game-changing. I loved EbonixSim's point about some of the more usable textured hairstyles being a part of the expansion packs and not base game. EA has come a long way but it has certainly taken a long time. They could definitely benefit from the input of black CC creators.

Ebonix was the first modder I found and put her stuff in my game. She is my favorite. Thanks so much for putting out great content and allowing me to make people who look like me and my family.
Let's do a reality check here - There are over six billion people on the planet now, there's no way in a million years a cartoony computer game, that was really weak to begin with, could EVER stand a hope in well of representing groups, let alone individuals, of one group of people. NO one who isn't symmetrical, tall, morbidly obese, disabled (in a range of ways, not just in the wheelchair - We're talking missing limbs too), doesn't have dwarfism, etc, etc, etc, can accurately make a Sim of themselves. Making a decent range of black skin tones is just the very beginning, and personally, I think there are so many of those I've never seen on real people - They look too reddish-brown, you know what I mean? Who's terracotta?!! Edit: 12:46 THAT'S terracotta too. Ever AFTER the mods, that's too orange, you can see that's not her real skin colour!
Soo, I'm a longtime Sims player. Like as I was born in the 80s and was a teenager when The Sims came out (yesss with the big clunky box, old school desktop, and CD. Let me tell you when those new CD versions came out I was in front of the line at the electronic counter). The Sims 3 was my favorite for yearsss b/c it was really the beginning of this high tech playing you see in the Sims 4 now. I have always, and I mean ALWAYS made a female black sim that looked as close to me as possible (with changed clothes, hair, houses, families, etc) and used mods mostly for better decor. It never occurred to me that I could have a sim look so much more like what I see in the mirror in the years I've played this game. The content creation happening now is next level, and I hope that in the future it will be a normal part of the base game to have all kinds of facial features, hairstyles, and makeup, like in this video. Kudos to the modders making way for inclusion for everyone!
I freaking LOVE Ebonix and her CC sooo much. So much attention to detail and care and love have gone into her content and it shows. CC creators need to be appreciated more.

Can this become a series? Of all sorts of people making their Sim and then someone else recreating it or customizing it, I just feel like this is so satisfying and I wish there was more.
This was such a sweet video! It was neat to see other simmers with similar struggles when it comes to sims. I loved how their sims turned out! Sims 4 has the best looking sims of the series, and I feel like is the easiest to make Black sims, imo, that don't look odd. But you still need cc (custom content) to get the look right, the hairstyles that look current or show variety (although 4 has the best base game sims hair, and overall hairstyles with packs included). For most games in general, whenever there is character creation, most of the make-up tends to look better on pale tones, so darker tones really only have black to work with (if you want to look jazzy), and hair styles tend to mostly have straight options. I would update what Naddia said about the limited hairstyles and add dreadlocks to the cornrows and 1970's afros. I guess it's progress? I tend to make a sim of myself, and have her live in the town somewhere, lol! Sims 4 was the first time where I felt like my sim actually looked like me, even before cc. Not that I'm shilling for that one because it's my least favorite of the series, lol.
I love this and 100% agree that CC creators should be hired on with EA's team to help get more diverse and inclusive looks out there. They help the game not be so boring.
This was an awesome video. The ladies did a great job on their sim selves. Ebonics took it to a whole nother level. I love her hair styles for the sims.
Also base noses are not very diverse but thats because its the base for you to create your own nose, the detail interface and the normal closeup bring so much shaping to the table, you can easily get a real persons nose
And keep in mind, these additions are to add representation and diversity. That's not something only Black people want to see or experience. I'm sure other races, of non color and of color, would love these additions as well.
I honestly love black CC creators, Ebonix has always been my favorite for hair. Then Xmiramira and KikoVanity have been my go to for makeup and jewelry.

I think there has been a level a laziness that the sims team has come to. CC exists, so they don’t feel the need to fix their problems. But they forget about the players who can’t use CC or don’t want to. A game that is geared towards playing with life shouldn’t only include certain ethnicities.
The console versions are just garbage (no mods or cc)

I really liked EbonixSims' makeovers. You can tell she really considered each piece of custom content she used, and I loved their reactions.
@@Emily10210 Yeah Idk why they won't recognize it as a EA problem. EA doesn't wanna give us anything if it's not hidden behind a paywall.
@@Emily10210 because there were only like 5 shades for black people, and 2 hair styles.
No. But I also didn’t try to say they were discriminating because they weren’t, it’s just not as common and it’s a video game so they had to include a few select styles for all types of people.

i’ve always found it so hard to make poc sims because there are just not enough options. but i praise the sims team for trying to correct their ways
The CC Creator is AMAZING!!! I have a personal aversion to getting CC myself, they cross your sims way too far into the uncanny valley for my comfort.
Look for maxis match custom content. Those ones follow the sims style instead of being too realistic
SHOUTOUT TO THE BLACK SIMMER GROUP!
I love this and 100% agree that CC creators should be hired on with EA's team to help get more diverse and inclusive looks out there. They help the game not be so boring.
Omg I didn’t know Ebonix was British
This was an awesome video. The ladies did a great job on their sim selves. Ebonics took it to a whole nother level. I love her hair styles for the sims.
I have to say some are not using all the capabilities of the sims 4 face shaping, you wont get yourself if you keep in the box.
Also base noses are not very diverse but thats because its the base for you to create your own nose, the detail interface and the normal closeup bring so much shaping to the table, you can easily get a real persons nose
At 3 am, I realized the Sims is basically the same as playing with dolls.
‘I mean... let’s ask the audience’ 💀
Can we talk about how a lot of the textured hair came from the island pack
Yes, we love to see it! I also made myself in the sims and it's just so much easier to make using mods, because of the game's limitations!
CC really adds more diversity to the game and just makes it easier to make sims that look like you
And keep in mind, these additions are to add representation and diversity. That's not something only Black people want to see or experience. I'm sure other races, of non color and of color, would love these additions as well.
I honestly love black CC creators, Ebonix has always been my favorite for hair. Then Xmiramira and KikoVanity have been my go to for makeup and jewelry.
Shout out to Ebonix.. she really changed the game for us👏🏾👏🏾
I'm so glad this is being highlighted further than what you might see on Twitter amongst the Sims Community. I can't play my game without CC or mods anymore because of the lack of realism and representation in gameplay and CAS. EA need to step it up!
