Master workshop with Sujata Mohapatra- celebrated disciple/dancer of Legendary Guru, Padmabhibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra. Pallavi or "blossom/elaborate" in Sanskrit, is a pure dance work centered on the interplay between dance and music- the melody (raag) and rhythmic step patterns develop in unison, highlighting the mood, notes, and temporal structure of the composition. This workshop explored dance preparation, specialty steppings, transitions between still poses into mobile patterns, and the distinctive moods of Guru Kelucharan-ji's pallavi's.

This is Odissi, one of the eight classical dances of India. This dance was originated in the state of Orissa in eastern India. It is the most gracful and lyrical dance style.

@kalikaputra, What ever she performed here, just try it out yourself. You'll get to know how tough it is. It needs devotion and hard work to perform Indian dancing. Elegance does not come easily, it has to be achieved. Western dancing is undoubtedly good and needs lot toughness but its same with Indian dancing also. If you perform a 10mins pallavi you'll have your tongue out, gasping for air to breathe.

@kalikaputra, Even I dont want to sound disrespectful of your opinion but have you seen old temples of India specially from south and east and old sculptures like at Meenakshi ,Ajanta
Alora, Konark? The temple from where the poses and grammar of movements came? Have you ever seen the female form of sculptures skinny and flat? Thats becoz Only western idea of beauty is skinny and flat. And also of those Indians who blindly follow anything western.
Indian beauty has curves.. and that is the ideal body form for classical specially odissi. (the costume is even designed to accentuate curves, (if you really had keen observation, you would have noticed that )Ever heard of Sharon Lowen?Google it. She does odissi. Is in her 60s.She is from " West". Is she skinny and flat? So just dont say anything for the heck of saying it. You only expose your immaturity.
