I appreciate your effort here at YT. Focusing on a species and showing the depth of care provided offers the kind of information and experience that is genuinely helpful. You have inspired me to raise these lovely little fish.
Thanks. Shipping live fish isn't good at the moment, with delays in shipping and cold weather. Hope you find some of these closer to your home. Cheers, Michael :0)
These fish and Chromaphyosemion Volcanum will move into my new tank soon. Your content on YT is inspiration and help for me, far away from being an expert. Would love to breed with Red Neons. Thank you for your assistance Carol
Very cool video and what an amazing job you do keeping them! I just recently acquired some rainbows for the first time, and I have fallen in love! I got some pseudomugil furcata and 3 gertrudae. I think you are correct about the coloration - with good husbandry, live plants (especially moss and feathered plants used for breeding), and a proper diet they become MUCH more colorful than any picture I have seen online. My alpha male furcata has become so colorful that he has a vibrant red-tipped dorsal fin which I have never seen in any photo or video. Cannot wait to breed them!
Thanks a lot for your response. All of the blue eyes are fantastic fish in my opinion. Breeding has been relatively easy with the luminatus, hope you furcata and gertrudae will prove equally productive. Cheers Michael :0)
hello everyone...I live in France...I had luminatus babies, who are 4 months old now.. I put mops, I always have 8 eggs per day...but after 48 hours they all turn white... my question, are my fish still too young?
They are pretty young for breeding, but I guess the problem more likely could be in the water quality. Have you tested your water recently? Cheers, Michael :0)
Hey Michael.. I was wondering if you're from Denmark? i have been looking for the Red neon Blue eye for a while and was hoping to maybe aquire some fish from you, since you're obviously breeding them. On another note.. Awesome video man and awesome fish. You create some beautiful videos
Hi Matti. Yes, I'm from Denmark, but I don't have the Red Neon Blue Eyes anymore. Hopefully you can find them elsewhere. And thanks for your kind words. Cheers, Michael :0)
Hi Stephen. I think they will. Both species are small and peaceful - and their temperature requirement match up ok as well. Haven't tried it, though. Cheers, Michael :0)
Hey michael, great video. Wanted to ask some question if its alright. I just got 10 luminatus and its already been 3 days but they still refuse to eat? Sometimes they nibble and spit out the food and swim away or they just dont care about the food at all. I have tried pellets, flakes, and frozen bloodworms. Is this behaviour normal? I dripped acclimated them for 1 hour before putting them in my aquarium and my tank is very heavily planted.
Sorry about the late answer, William. That is definitively not normal. When I have fish acting like that, live food seems to cheer them up adn start them feeding. Newly hatched brine shrimp is a favourite food for my Luminatus. Cheers, Michael :0)
Thanks Lukky. They won't harm adult shrimps, but they might nibble a baby shrimp occasionally. If there's moss or other refuges for the shrimps - most of the babies will survive. Merry Xmas, Michael :0)
Excellent video, thank you for sharing your experience with these beautiful fish. I have a small group as well, but have had a hard time breeding them. Do you think they are just as likely to breed in harder water conditions? I look forward to seeing more videos in this series.
Thanks a lot for your feedback, Cliff. I have no experience on breeding these fish in hard water, so I can't say for sure. Do you observe any breeding activity? They might breed, but maybe the eggs won't develop in harder water. Cheers Michael :0)
what do you feed urs? so far mine wont touch crushed bug bite flakes, or micro small bug bites. which almost all fish in my experience picky ones will eat
Hi Bruce, mine will eat just about anything that fits into their mouths. Brine shrimp, small daphnia, microworms, small mosquito larvae and crushed flake food. What you are offering, sounds just fine as well. Can there be a problem with your water quality or circling of the tank?
@MichaelJensensAquarium actually I had to quit the hobby a couple of months ago due to health issues. The maintenance became too much. All the stock and both my tanks were given to my lfs who I know well and they're actually using my 55g and the stock as a display tank.
@@FishRfun Sad to hear that. Good thing you still can drop by your local fish shop and enjoy your tank. Hoping for your recovery. All the best, Michael
@@MichaelJensensAquarium just asked my local fish store and he said he can order them.....now I have to get a tank ready.....im so excited! thank you for introducing them to me
You can do that, but you will only find a small part of the eggs. Might be better to catch the newly hatched fry in the surface, and move those to another tank. But the most effective way is the one I discribe in the video. Cheers, Michael :0)
Hi dshizzle, I said Australia and New Guinea, but it may be imprecise, since I seems that Pseudomugil luminatus is currently only known from south-central New Guinea in the vicinity of Timika, West Papua. At least as it's natural habitat. So Australia is not correct. Thanks for your input. I will correct that in my text (though not in the speak). Cheers Michael :0)

Beautiful little fish. I keep Pseudomugil Furcatus in a 20-gallon high tank with celestial pearl danio, clown killifish, and endler guppies. Hi Justin and Kelvin, I feel that the most important factor in getting that deep red coloration in this species is lots of small live food, small daphnia, copepods, mosquito larvae and brine shrimp. But that being said, a dark substrate helps a lot. My fish loose some of the glow, when kept over a light substrate. Good water quality and lots of plants doesn't hurt either. Cheers, Michael :0)
