It's like walking into one of your classes in middle school - and the lights are turned out - and there's a 16mm projector in the back - and this is the film you watch.

25:10 Thats the sort of thing that modern documentaries lack, the feeling of triumph and longing, the want to undertand and know the universe and all of her secrets. The sense that humanity's destiny lie amongst the stars and our future await there.

Some of the special effects in this were reused in the 1978 science fiction TV series, "Quark." That spaceship in the end was definitely reused. The supernova animation was also reused in the pilot episode. I'm still trying to figure out where the rest of the Quark SFX shots came from though, as the show clearly did not have enough of a budget to make their own. My hunch is if they came from another NASA film like this, is this part of another series? Does anyone have any titles or any links to similar directions from around the same time?

    Fun Fact:
We've never seen the ignition of a new star in the entire history of astronomy.
(we have telescopes powerful enough to see the ice-cold gas in interstellar nebulae but somehow we can't detect new nuclear fireballs???)
Instructions on how to find a new star:
    1. Take a picture or use an old picture.
    2. Wait any amount of time.
    3. Take a second picture of the same patch of sky.
    4. Compare the pictures,
if there is a new bright shiny dot in the second picture which appeared in the sky in the time between the first and the second picture, than, congratulations you are the first astronomer to find a star.
Good luck, we haven't been able to do it in the entire history of photographic astronomy. And there are no records from the ancient past of new stars being reported and the Persians, Greeks, and Chinese kept detailed records.
Because God made all the stars on day 4.
Note: I am not talking about the formation period of a star which "theoretically" could take a very long time. I'm talking about Ignition, the point at which it changes from gas into thermonuclear plasma. On Earth this is a nuclear explosion. How could it be a slow process in space.

What an existentially depressing film. Truth can be so disheartening. The only thing that trumps our existential reality is God. God exists beyond the existential, beyond nature and natural physical phenomena. God exists beyond science and what science can prove. Science is a tool for the natural and physical world. It can never prove the supernatural nor is it necessary to prove the supernatural. “The supernatural is something that is not supposed to exist but it does.” Some people are gifted to experience the preternatural and the supernatural. Others must take it on faith.
