How I make my acai bowls:
I use the Pitaya Foods backs from Walmart which has no sugar. I make it according to the back, in the blender with apple juice, banana, and strawberry + I add a little honey so it’s sweet. Frozen banana is the best. I use fresh strawberries.
For the toppings I like sliced fresh bananas and strawberries, lots of granola, shaved coconut, cacao nibs etc. Then I warm peanut butter (the sweet normal version like Jif or Skippy) in the microwave and drizzle over the top. It’s even better if you pop it back in the freezer for a bit. The peanut butter gets crusty and DELICIOUS. (Nutella works too if you are really feeling extra.)

I’ve had similar thoughts about my husband and I….we were 20 and 22 when we got married. We had known each other for about 8 years and although we knew each other pretty well, we had no idea what we were doing. 😂 But that is often the world’s reasoning for getting married later, or living together first. I think that because we were in tune spiritually and our commitment to God was the same, that carried us through all of the challenges and growing seasons. We are now 19 years in and although we didn’t know what we were getting into, God did and I’m so grateful. He is still my best friend.❤

When my husband and I got married, I was 19 and my husband 20. That will soon be 47 years ago. We have three children, all married with their own families and I was a stay at home mom and my husband was in construction too. I am so grateful for this life and all my gifts. I loved your video, as I do all of them….you are doing a great job. Also, your shirt, lip gloss and eye shadow….beautiful 💕. You are beautiful inside and out.

As a 90’s baby, I also try to incorporate “the 90s” mindset especially when I’m in any sort of waiting room: the docs, dentist, auto shop, laundry mat(?) opting to read magazines (if they even have any) or just take in the surroundings. I feel like a proper psychopath.. just sitting and ..staring...but how odd that sitting still feels so awkward. And I’m always surprised at how everyone- even folks older than me- are all glued to the device in their hand😳 It’s so strange.
That said, I try to take the idea with a grain of salt because in all honesty, if 90s folks had the tech then that we enjoy today, you can pretty well bet they too would be taking full advantage of it. I’m sure our grandparents had opinions about how much tv and radio was utilized. Every gen had the tech of its time and life was both better and worse for it.

Greetings from the middle of Nebraska! How about us mom's from the 80's. I returned to work after 3 months of being home with my newborn. I always wanted to be a stay at home mom but it wasn't possible. My work offered health benefits and my husband was starting his retail business. It was very hard but I managed to make it through. I love when you have these videos and share your thoughts and cares. You are doing a fantastic job as a mother, wife and business owner. I would have loved to have had all the resources that are available now for new moms, wives and women. I didn't have the social media either and it was probably a good thing. Never compare yourself to anyone. You are a wonderful you just as you are!!!!

It is totally possible for anyone to be a stay at home mom. You make do with less, you make more from scratch, and your kids need far less than the world thinks. I had four and was always home. There were some financial hard times, but so worth it. My adult kids have thanked me.

One trip to the hospital without health insurance can ruin one financially for good. There was no Health Markets or Obama Care in the 80s. One spouse and the family must be covered through employment.

I was a new parent in the 70s when life was simpler. Most of our neighbors and friends could be stay at home Moms and enjoy our children and homes. I feel sorry for most of the moms today that have to work and miss out on so much of their children s lives and have so much stress trying to get everything done in a short amount of time each day.

I was the main bread winner. I went back to work after my babies at 5 and 6 weeks. It was so hard. Both of my boys were premies. And I'd been on bedrest with premature labor both times. Be grateful. I missed so much because I had to work. But I survived!

So glad to hear your update on anxiety. I agree it is such a relief when we realize that sleep, and even whether we’re eating healthy, can affect our anxiety level. I know when I first had anxiety. I had to stop drinking coffee or caffeine for a few years. It really helped . And of course, the hormones from pregnancy and nursing.

I was a 90’s mom. It had its lonely times…I had to really force myself to get out and socialize with other moms. Mops was helpful, but I was already 30 before my first baby arrived so I didn’t have much in common with the other young moms. So that was tough. It took 4 yrs for my 2nd to come along so I tried to get my 1st involved in everything. Once baby #2 arrived, it got a lot easier as they entertained each other. I think God creates each of us for the perfect time for us

Me too - babies in '93 and '95, I was also 30 when I had my first. But I didn't find it a 'quieter' or less busy time tbh - and in my social group most of us didn't start a family young so I had plenty mum's my own age. I was also living in a city at the time so that maybe that helped me to never feel lonely.

Give yourself some grace, one day at a time and you'll feel better another day. I know with me and being married 44 years these feelings still come some times. Great video Megan.

I totally get what you mean by thinking like a 90’s mom! I’ve literally have been doing the same thing. Specifically when I’m out grocery shopping alone with my kids. I used to give them my phone to watch something so I can just get in and out of the store, but I had a conviction of if my mom was able to handle me and my sisters without any portable entertainment then so can I! And that has been such a shift in my parenting for the better!

  • @cindiprather2415

Megan, I love your videos and enjoy watching your life with your family. I was a 90's mother and a full time pastor. I loved that time, because I was with my kids and doing all the things I felt called to do. But, it was also a stressful and lonely time. It was hard for a number of reasons, but in reality it was no different than what moms experience now. One of the things I wish I had during that time was the internet. I love following you and others. I wish your videos and others like Minimal Mom had been around in the 90s. There was a lot of pressure in the 90s. One of the things I like about you and other bloggers is the message that it is okay to be who you are and enjoy your life, whatever it is. And also the message that it is okay not to have it all. My message to Moms like you in this time, is to enjoy the time you are in. It might be nice to look at a bygone era, but remember there are stressors and distractions no matter when you are living. The best time you are living in is today.
Another comment I want to make is about anxiety and mental health. I am also a mental health therapist. Anxiety is very real and it can cripple people. For new moms, if your anxiety and or depression lasts more than a couple of weeks, it is important to talk to someone. That someone can be your doctor, pastor, or a therapist. Post partum depression can become a mental health crisis and you want to catch it before you are in crisis. I'm glad you figured out your coping resources. There are people who don't have validating people and don't have healthy coping resources. I'm glad you have been open about your own anxiety. That is validating in itself and how you found ways to manage it. But, I want to say to anyone reading this. If you need to talk to someone, it's okay. They will help you find ways to cope.

I totally agree with what you are saying about Evonnie potentially marrying young.
It is SO important that we instill in our daughters that you don’t just marry someone because they give you “butterflies” or because you’ve been together for X amount of time. The man you marry is one of the biggest choices you’ll ever make, he will lead your life. It is a huge and heavy decision.

Skating rinks, drive-in movies, camping, fishing, hunting, meeting friends at Walmart, dragging main street, and so on. A whole different life that I miss.

I include myself in that as well... backing off what I allow myself to be involved in... in the quiet is when Jesus speaks to me... getting quieter for me started with my last as well. I sat in the NICU for hours every day for 7 weeks and couldn't be on the phone or listening to anything because I didn't have earbuds... so I just sat there and had so much time to think and pray and listen to His voice... ❤

One of the most important things in a spouse is that they be open to change in themselves and their spouse. As a 59-year-old lady I have seen that be the biggest issue in marriage. We all change as we grow older and sometimes people are very stuck and are not excited for their partner to develop.

I met my husband at 31 and was like I am so glad I met him then rather than when i was younger. I don't know if I would have married a younger version of him or myself haha. We are both grateful for the 20's that we got to spend however we wanted, and came together to enjoy life together as an older couple. (I'm not saying that we're old). Having kids older though is a whole different story. 😮

YESSSS Megan - I completely agree. Our 2020 lifestyle, including the media, social media, the general culture, plus all the extra toxins in our environment (food, air, medications, andddd... well... I'll just stop there for fear of sounding too crunchy lol) have definitely contributed to this crazy increase in anxiety that's occurring in our society. I don't even want to call it "anxiety," because from everything I've been reading, it's a form of dysautonomia (nervous system dysfunction/hypersensitivity). Did your mom ever have anxiety like you experienced? Or either of your grandmothers? Mine sure as heck didn't! So glad you've been assured that you're not alone, and that you've seen the connection to lack of sleep (same for me). And praise God that you've been feeling better - I'm almost 40 years old and only just experienced it myself for the very first time a few months ago, so my heart was aching for you, knowing that it hit you, too. It's something you wouldn't wish on anyone. Prayers that you get back to 100% soon - and you WILL, because He built our bodies to heal.

The 90’s compared to present . . . now we have so many more things that are supposed to make our lives easier but too often I feel that they also end up taking more of our time. I appreciated the challenge to be intentional to slow down.

I love how you acknowledged the privilege of being a SAHM. My mom was both a SAHM and went back to work after ten years. I've been learning that a lot of women are not able to stay at home for financial reasons. I wish that our economy gave women the choice to be at home with their children, especially with the struggle of finding childcare.

My husband and I I were married young as well. He had just turned 20 and I was still 19 soon to be 20. We have been married 51 years. We were high school sweethearts and I love him more today than ever.! God has always been our main center of our lives with our 3 children. Our kids are serving the Lord as well as their children so far! Life definitely has bumps along the way but with God, all things are possible! Remember to always have fun! This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! Love your channel! 😁

And if you have littles, Adventures in Odyssey’s still has their episodes on the radio once a week☺️

Don’t you think that maybe those doing You Tube are sometimes showing their best and not what’s real (at least some of them anyway),
Watching You Tube should be a type of entertainment and not something to compare to.
You are doing a great job with your life, kids, marriage.
And you are so real. Very refreshing! Thanks!

I'm still at home and my youngest is almost 14 because I homeschool my kids. I have graduated one so far. It is a one income situation. It has been fine. My husband makes decent money. My house isn't as beautifully decorated as the sahm youtube moms, but it is still a nice home. I have a smaller budget for clothes probably then many people and I can't buy everything I want. But I'm very thankful for my lifestyle - it has been a blessing not to hustle to make money on the side. It has become a game to me to see how little I can spend which suits well with my saving personality.

Egan, give yourself grace and realize each of us are on a different journey. I am nearly 75 and let myself get so down because I cannot do what I used to, As a matter of fact, I cannot even come close to what I used to. Sooo, let’s all lift our sisters up in prayer because we all have desires we can’t fulfill for one reason or another. God bless❣️

Megan, you have so much to offer on RUclips! I’ve been with you since the beginning, and still enjoying every minute. It sounds to me like you’re in one of those life cycles where we question ourselves, habits and what we want our lives to include (or not). I just turned 63 and I know you’ve said before that you’re not sure why women in a different season of life subscribe to your channel, but what you’ll come to understand is that the aging process happens in the body and not in the soul. We hopefully become more wise and intentional, for me it’s wanting simplicity. My take for you right now is that you may be going through one of those natural resets that God gives us. I don’t have a clue if that is biblical, therefore admit that I may be wrong.

I'm a Gen X rounding 50 and we both raised adult kids already, now raising a 4 and 7. It's funny you mention all of that, as in 2001 recalling I had babycenter forums to lean to and connect with other moms. That aside, it was pretty much friend circles and meeting moms at the park. Or reading What to expect when you're expecting and books similar!! Oh! The big thing also was those who had a computer internet, we had Geocities blog for our family!

Anxiety is not because you were raised in the 90's. I was born in 72 and have had very RARE moments my whole life when I wasn't swarmed with anxiousness. Its always been a thing that I've dealt with. I can remember my mom getting annoyed because I would go through periods of times where I had to hug her or touch her every 5 minutes.

Those questions for humans cards are such good conversation starters! Check out the guys podcast who created them! His podcasts are in my top 5 and are all about mental health and with your anxiety they might help you not feel like a crazy person…they do for me anyway😅 also something that has been so good for us as a couple is putting our phones on the charger in our kitchen so that we’re not on them up until the point of sleep and we talk more and communicate better! It also helps with getting up on the first alarm😊

I am a 90s mum. I am grateful for the time I had before social media and the fast pace. My daughter was born in 94 and I hired a pager to beep my husband who was working out on our farm when I was pregnant and went into labour. I had a basic mobile phone by the time I had my son in 96. Tech has moved so fast, slow down! 😢

Thank you for being real about anxiety. I feel that as Christian women we're told "Don't live in fear, give it to God, trust in Him," but that is so hard. It's especially hard when you have circumstances with in your family that you know you cannot control. So thanks again for being real.

Hi Megan, I discovered you a few years ago and enjoy your channel and getting to know you and your spirit of gratitude and perspectives. A few random comments you might see, however I don’t know if you will or will not. I just wanted to say, I am grateful you found information about natural cycles, especially as your family is growing. I am wondering if you breast feed your baby? If you do, a resource for you, might be La Leche League. This is also a way to manage your shared fertility. I really enjoy watching the closeness your family enjoys, and you and Josh. He manages so beautifully as a father and husband. You are indeed blessed and show a wonderful industrious example of what is a Christian mom and wife. God bless you.

I’ve noticed after another friend mentioned it, that I get anxiety when I have a let down when I nurse my 3 month old. As annoying as it is, it is helpful to know it’s tied to hormones and will go away when he stops the nursing session.

My husband and I grew up in the 80s. I really miss days without technology being so invasive sometimes. We have a 4 year old. I've gone back to DVDs and reading books more often. I've started limiting screen time. Growing up without this technology makes it easier for us to step away from it than others. We're trying to teach our daughter about a slower place of life and that we don't need to have everything at our fingertips. She plays outside and knows how to operate a tablet but it doesn't take over her life.
It was really hard being a sahm mom a after having a career. But I'm incredibly grateful for it

Oh I had to come back….i laughed a bit when you asked “what did couples do in the 90’s❓. Well we started off as a couple in the 70’s. We played card games and dominoes, we talked a lot, we did read the newspaper like your dad..No cell phones lol. I think we knew how to communicate more I. Those days and enjoyed visiting with each other. Sometimes we would read a book together at night. We always had one or two favorite tv shows we enjoyed together. Walker, Texas Ranger”. A good clean action show. Then of course we would end the night with the news and weather report before our prayer time.
