That rings a bell. I had a teacher at university do the student name memorizing thing. We were sat in the lecture hall, 30-40 of us (it was in 1987 so forgive me for not remembering the details, teacher's name was Elisabet Tegelberg). And she had us all each say our names, and then after repeat them back one after one. Unfortunately never mentioned anything about the technique she used, just performed it like a trick.

Don't know the brand. Check out Vivobarefoot. They do minimalist shoes that look like normal ones. I'm certain that Mr Ferriss would approve :-)
