When it comes to some diseases, like pneumonia, the way the body defends itself can have unintended consequences.
The symptoms of pneumonia, like shortness of breath, fever, a cough, fatigue, and more, can vary greatly in severity.The effects of walking pneumonia or atypical pneumonia can be so mild, someone might not even know they have it. In other cases, the infection can lead to death.
Pneumonia doesn’t just refer to a single virus or bacteria. The causes of pneumonia can include a number of different bacteria, viruses, or even fungi, the most common being the bacteria streptococcus pneumoniae. So when we’re talking about pneumonia, we’re really referring to something that is happening to our lungs.
Children under five, adults older than 65, and anyone with a compromised immune system are the most at risk. And when it comes to life or death as a result of pneumonia, access to health care or lack thereof is key.

I have had pneumonia twice, at the age of 10 and 20. In both cases General Practitioners in the UK failed to notice my condition, and sent me off with medicine to cure a cold. When they did finally notice my condition I had to skip school for 3 weeks, and in the second instance I was hospitalised for 5 days. In addition to the lack of accessibility, I'd say doctor awareness and care is also very crucial.
Dogginator I had it in college and had the same problem! Except in the US the only doctor I was able to see was the shitty university clinic. The GP sent me home with cold medicine and codeine over and over. Eventually I passed out in the waiting room and they finally x-rayed my lungs 😭Feels like death.

I'm really hoping that if I get this COVID-19 that the fact that I've been vaccinated for pneumonia will keep this virus from turning into pneumonia and killing me. I have chronic bronchitis and so pneumonia is *very* dangerous for me. The last time I had it I wasn't sure I would survive it. I had to sleep sitting up to keep from drowning in the fluid filling my lungs. It was just awful. But I was 10 or maybe 15 years younger back then. I don't know if I have the stamina to be able to survive another round of pneumonia.

So basically this disease causes the air sacs to be filled with liquid (or pus), which in turn causes all sorts of complication. What surprises me is that the lung type respiratory system which seems very common among the living world and must mean it must have evolved long time ago, yet our evolved immune systems after so long being working with our bodies couldn't figure out a way to avoid this.

Two years ago I developed pneumonia in both lungs while I was being hospitalized for a subarachnoid hemorrhage. It was the worst sickness I have ever experienced. I had pneumonia last year. You really won't notice if you had it until you experience the difficulty of breathing.
In 2006 I almost died from Pneumococcal Lobar Pneumonia. I thought I had the Flu. It was going away for a few days, then it came back with a vengeance. My temp started to shoot up to over 105deg.f. I was home alone, could hardly breathe and was fortunate enough to be able to drive myself down to the Atlanta VA emergency room.
I was hospitalized for 2 months.

I'm glad my parents gave me all the vaccinations at the right time. I've only had chickenpox, because that isn't part of the vaccination program where I'm from - only to certain patient groups. I've gone a step further as an adult and vaccinate myself against the flu and vaccinanted myself against hepatitis A and B.
I have type 1 diabetes, so my immune system is slightly compromised. I don't like being sick either - ain't nobody got time for that!
I'm taking the vaccine next autumn, and every year from then on. After a friend being put in a medically induced coma on december 23. because of swine flu and pneumonia, and still being under two weeks later, allthough being slightly better, I'm not taking that small but unnecessary risk. And I'm never quitting WHM, that will continue to improve my immune system and prepare me for fighting future disease.

I remember having pneumonia in 7th grade (2008). I avoided the hospital at first (thinking it was a simple flu). Yeah....the doctors said I could’ve died if I had waited 2-3 days. Stayed for like a week or two. Bright side is it led to a sort of drawing renaissance for me and I kept working at even today.

I used to have an extremely good immune system, but then I started having struggles with my health, found out I had some severe sleep disorders which were causing my decline in health, as your body needs sleep to rest and recover.
Got atypical pneumonia and it sucked. Thankfully I was able to recognize that something wasn’t right and scheduled an appointment with my doctor asap and got it treated. It was no wonder I was having more trouble breathing than normal
