- In this devlog I share a game concept I made where the world has a circular shape to it. Although it's a simple idea, it has many interesting gameplay implications.

I think this is the kind of game that is a perfect experience, but one that only lasts 5 minutes.
A way to make a circular level larger would be structuring it like a circular maze. But yes, I personally wouldn't be able to play this game, just watching the devlog made me dizzy lol
Thanks for the idea. A maze-like structure would also add some good variety to the level designs. Sorry about the dizziness, though!
i think I got motion sickness from watching the gameplay, don't know if it was the background or the motion that did it - probably a combination of the two
I love this so much. I think as other commenters said, this feels perfect as an arcade-style game where you try to last as long as you can. Short and sweet. Great execution!
this made me sick
Wow, what a crazy idea for a game. It also sounded really difficult to make it. Personally, I don't think I could play a game like this. Difficulty aside, I think I would get nauseous playing it. It felt slightly dizzying just watching it in the video let alone playing it for any given amount of time.
Likewise, but such a neat concept. I wonder whether larger levels would help with the dizziness?
@@jbaidley That's a good point. Big enough so that you couldn't see the entirety of the circle maybe? I think that removes some of the nuance that Gradient was talking about but that might help a lot.
Cool idea. Experiments like this can bear fruits much later while working on other projects, so maybe someday you will actually turn this into a full adventure roguelike or something ;p
I would play it if it has a static background option. It'll fix nausea problem a bit.
Looks pretty cool! pretty sure that if there is a ledge close to you, you can skip the lap tho
What if you had a weapon that you can only shoot upwards? Make it so you have the clear each level on enemies before moving to the next. You wouldn't be able to fight the enemies near you, only ones that aren't a threat. You would have to understand a level in its entirety at all times.
Thank you for the idea! I like how it takes advantage of the unique shape to behave even more differently than a traditional side scroller.
pls make this a complete game!
Wow, super underrated!
