I was entertained. I loved when they sang and danced. Milkshake was my favorite. I think I was around 25 years old when it came out, and at that time I had no idea about the gay connotations. Maybe because my parents were very strict and I was sheltered. I didn't need the scenes with Jenner. That was a waste of time. They could have filled those spaces with the men doing solos, like they did with David, and Glenn's short 'audition'.
Fantastic documentary - thank you for uploading this. I'm in Australia and the movie was a great success here along with the Village People records (when physical records sold millions) and they're been touring over for years and years...
Those are the movies we have to thank for the creation of the Razzie Awards. Can’t Stop the Music won 2 Razzies for Worst Picture & Screenplay and Xanadu’s Robert Greenwalt took home Worst Director.
This is fascinating. Is this the whole thing or part of a bigger documentary. The movie is a train wreck but in a fun way. One of the Village People (the Indian) lived in my city for a while and I met him once and I immediately sang a line from “Milk Shake” which he grinned at but I’m not sure it was a good grin or an “oh brother” grin. 🤣
Xanadu is a mixed bag of great and bad. ELO - GREAT. Beautiful Animation - GREAT. Gene Kelley's last hurrah - GREAT. Can't Stop the Music doesn't quiet have any aces.
@@80sOGRE Xanadu also had Olivia Newton-John who was very popular from Grease. The plot is just drudgery to sit through. Each musical number in Xanadu grows a little more bonkers than the one before. This isn't a complaint. I love the hot mess that it is.
it's light and cheesy and fun to watch through a good sound system with friends in a party setting .. but it does go on a bit ...and there are parts of it where it makes viewing feel a bit like painting a ceiling ..
Listen, I'm a gay man and I love well-done gay movies. But to even compare snippets of this movie to Mickey and Judy at MGM is laughable. I've seen fifth graders who were better actors than this cast. If the film flopped, there was a reason. It was like if someone comes into your video store and asks, "Could you tell me where I can find the boxed sets of Academy Award Best Picture winners from Monogram and PRC?"
I love the Village People, big fan for many years but the reality is, it's a horrible film. Horrible script, horrible directing (Nancy freaking Walker??), just horrible. A Village People film had such potential, and they really blew it unfortunately. Best thing I can say about it is, the musical sequences are good and it's a better movie than Sgt. Pepper's from '78.
Wow - Steve Guttenberg - one of those very fortunate people who gets better looking as they get older!
I consider a great movie one I can watch over and over without getting tired of it...this one is great!
I enjoyed it. Big lesson I took was never give up no matter what the critics say.
An unforgettable time capsule of the greatest boy band of all time !!!

Director of Photography Bill Butler: shot classics such as Rocky, The Conversation, Jaws ... and THIS???!!!
Funnily enough CSTM did quite well in New Zealand as well
Since this is one of my favorite movies (along with Grease 2) these videos are tremendous.
Thanks so much! Check out the documentary they were filmed for!
LOL...Olivia Newton John dropped out of this film to do "Xanadu" instead. Both bombed.
No, she didn’t do the movie bcse it was a shit movie. The worst movie in history! The director lol
It's called Campy .
They're both cult classics now!!!
@@simon5005 Camp classics, maybe.

It's extremely difficult deciding which film is worse: Xanadu or Can't Stop The Music.

@@Scorchy666 But i still feel Can't stop the music is boring by comparison. Xanadu is only saved by the surreal animation elements and ELO.
You can't really judge the two without also screening The Apple. These are the three legs of the tripod that Disco Musicals died on.
Didnt they both get nominated for most of the golden raspberry awards?
I didn't know Michael Moore had a gay brother Lol
Juba?
This movie was shot before a pg13 rating existed
I heard this movie was a flop but some of the clips I seen they were really funny
*...I've seen were really funny.

Can’t Stop The Music is one of the few intentionally campy productions that actually works as camp
TOO GAY..I LOVED IT ...BOB IN CINCINNATI OHIO
Absolute shit show of a movie
