I stopped voting for any Republican 8 years ago when I saw that not one on the ballot would speak out against fascism or the orange menace. Then 4 years ago they solidified my resolve with their cowardice when they voted to reject the legal results from the vote after they ran for their lives from the mob. And they still won't speak out against any of it. They can drape the flag around them, they can brag about serving as a Marine or in the army, but they have proven themselves to be unfaithful to their vow to uphold and protect the constitution. I wouldn't trust one of them to be a dog catcher.

The Supreme Court did not legalize slavery. The Dred Scott decision just before the Civil War brought it on as it said that 'slaves' living in non-slave states could be dragged back to slave states. Slavery was instantiated in the Constitution. Not so nice, but true.

In 2020, King Joseph R. Biden won the EC vote passing over 300 votes. He beat Trump by 7M votes. Trump never made it to the 270 EC votes. He stayed at 213 EC even when he appealed it and lost the 61 court cases claiming election fraud.

What is really hard for me to understand is how so many people believe that Trump is the “one” to vote for. I just don’t get their thinking.

Seems the Supreme Court has once again shirked its duty. I say, disband the bums!!! They dont deserve to hold this high position.
The antidote to anxiety is action. I'm endeavoring to channel my fears about this election into more than just voting. Donating, text banking, volunteering to help candidates, writing postcards, telling people about the far right's agenda, and whatever I can. If we all do one small thing a day toward protecting our democracy I believe it will add up.

Thank you & Thanks Maryann for the validation we (most) are pretty much ecstatic it's taking a while to sink in this is not a dream it's been a traumatic & years long 14yrs with them & their ideology of austerity, my health nosedived near the start so me & all sick/disabled was badly hit which continued of course with Sars Covid 2, them letting brexit happen (basically to try & save their Party never thinking of the country). The nightmare is finally over but know change will be slow but in 72hrs they've hit the ground running already have done more positive acts than the Tories have that I can recall in their 14 years. They actually care & putting the 90% as priority, not lies and corruption to line the pockets of their donors. We finally have sense, stability, compassion & hope. Great feeling to wake up each day remembering they are finally gone & ain't returning any time soon if at all! & smiling also the moon new gave me happy tears to release some of the built up stress from the 14yrs, so RIP up their to those sick disabled that was driven over the brink due to horrific claims process the tories made worse of denying sickness/disability welfare/benefits many thousands died & the UN investigated it all found them responsible for harms caused but had no power to do more Tories basically carried on only altering bare minimum processes.

Chutkin can/will have a mini trial, evidence being presented in order to determine what he did was official or unofficial acts. That way the American people can hear the evidence, even if there cannot be an official trial. I’m hoping she decides to televise it, even if that isn’t normal. Thank you, Maryann for doing everything you can to give us hope here in the US. It hurts to watch what our SCOTUS has done, especially this term. There is so much they have done to take power and overturn the rule of law. It is especially painful for me for 2 reasons: 1) I’m a lawyer who swore to uphold the US Constitution and the Virginia Constitution and 2) my ancestors contain soldiers who fought in the Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War (Union), and 3 out of 4 grandparents served in WWII. My family poured their blood, sweat, tears, and health (the 1812 soldier didn’t last long after the war while his widow lived on for many years) into creating and preserving a democratic US. I have begun praying to them for guidance. There has to be more I can do than just vote.
We have a saying about not giving up that says you should go down swinging. We can’t just stand there and let our democracy be taken from us. We must keep going no matter how dire things may look.

Thank you for another great reading Maryanne. In the UK so many of us are thrilled with the new Labour govt. It was a moment of joy to see Liz Truss lose her seat, the awful woman didn't even have the grace to give a speech (unlike many of her fellow Tories who also lost on election night). I believe that Keir Starmer is a very dark horse, with some fantastic ideas to reform our country. He's already made some incredible appointments to his cabinet, e.g. James Timpson, a real philanthropist who gives former prisoners work oportunities, is now prisons minister. Also an independent Attorney General. I genuinely feel hope for our poor little island now.
