I just got back from a rip on my XLT triple. I love it when people revive these old machines. They are so simple (most of the time) and such a blast to ride.
Couple things..check for mouse nest inside fan shroud..really common if sitting. Also when i get a sled running thats been sitting a long time, the first thing i do when it fires off is to get it hot and keep it that way for at least 10 min. Stuck rings, moisture and rust if any will burn off. My theory of running it quick then stopping is that the rings will not expand to where they should be then when it cools down youll have loss of compression. There is no 100% way to test it but ive had probably close to 100 sleds in my time and it seems thats the case when ive done it either way
I can't say it has good crank seals quite yet, will be checking when it finally runs. I've had good luck over the years with finding the fanners with good seals thankfully
I suppose it'd probably run better if you took the carbs off and actually cleaned the jets out, needle and seats etc. I've never seen such a half assed attempt at carb cleaning. 😂
Comment if you wanna see part 2 and get it actually running and riding! Shouldn’t take too much yet
488 fan is a pretty decent motor. Surprisingly pretty snappy.
Yea had lots over the years! Always ran good, not a race winner but great to rip around on! Appreciate the continued comments!!

Hell ya!! Glad you saw a video! Hope you'll watch more or even older videos! Lol
Hahahaa "It could be plugged full of mice" after more grass was shooting out of the fan shroud than a lawn mower. That'll be a good beater!
Lol 🤣
I put 22000 miles on a 1988 indy trail when I was a kid. Great sled
That's insane!!
And yes boys part 2 of course
She's got some sun fade.
I just wanna know how you guys keep finding these things with good crank seals, seems like everyone I’ve tried to get going har wasted crank seals

Don't worry we went through the carbs make sure to watch the second part to find out why it didn't run
There wasn't a speck of varnish in those carbs all passages very clean hence why I could see right through the Jets
Junk
It'll do for 1 good ride
