This tutorial shows you how to fill thousands of rows or columns with incremental numbers or dates with the click of a button. You will learn multiple ways to quickly fill-in the data, but, you will also learn the quickest way to do so. For instance, this Excel tutorial will show you the easiest way to fill-in 10,000 (or even a million) rows with numbers starting from one; the method illustrated is much faster than the alternatives outside of VBA.
Been looking for this for 20mins and so easy once I found your video. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the details! There are many videos about how to do drag and drop, but many skipped the basic steps, especially for very very new beginners. Thanks again!
Great Excel tip. I just added this video to one of my playlists. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, i wonder if you can increment to a certain value from another cell. If you type 10 than the cells generate 1, 2, 3 and so on until 10. If you change 10 to 5 than you get max 5 numbers genersted.
Thank you... You just saved me hours of work...
You just saved me from numbering 100k+ data by dragging it lol.
Thank you ❤
does anyone know how to do this, but with arbitrary text before the number? Like the same way excel can do that if you highlight and drag a cell that has text ending with a number, and will increment the number part by default- but without having to drag so you can do a really large value fast.
Can I have the "Stop value" reference a cell, so that whenever I enter a quantity/number in that cell, my column would auto fill to that number i entered in my designated cell.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Thank you.....
Great :-)
Thank You...
You're welcome :)
Thanks
Hi what if we need to fill a range of cells with a formula
hi may i know the presentation , what software u using?
I have a question but I'm not sure how to word it properly to explain so bare with me.
I'm trying to make a spreadsheet for my investing and I have all the columns figured out except for one. The first column is my initial investment the next is * the percentage rate, the next equals my daily payout that I receive.
What I'm trying to figure out now is when I'm doing my reinvesting, my last column, I'm only going to do it in multiples of $100 dollars or greater but to the highest power of 10 so if it's $109 I want the column to automatically take out 100 and add it to the First Column for reinvesting and so on so forth always do the highest 10 but greater than $100 no less. Can you help?
How would you auto fill one word like "Unknown" from A1 to A10,000?
We will never know!
Easy peasy! First, make B1 to B10000 following this video, then write 'Unknown' in A1, select A1, and double click on the auto-fill 'plus' at the bottom right corner of A1 cell. And you get it!
can we script this? like I enter a value and automatically a column of that size is created? enter number 5, a column of 1,2,3,4,5 created
Is something similar possible in the online version? I can't see that button.
same here
How about we replace the same number with the same formula
How do you do this if there are hidden rows
i actually am in openoffice and i get the same window as you and can set the data range in the series tab..but i would have to manually slect the cells and ..so for 1 000000 i have to selct 1million cells....how do i get aroundd this ..thxz
I don't use that program but maybe you could navigate to the top of that worksheet, select the cell and hit Ctrl + Shift + Arrow Down and maybe that will select all of the cells; then, try the fill command.
yes that works. for sequential numbers ....just been trying to now enter repeated data..i.e ..words for products and products categories and still cant get it to work..reading online docs for apache and excel for that and its macros and other stuff..formulas ..but still cant get it...well thank you again and if you know a doc or link for enterring words...that would be cool..cuz this method only works for numbers it seems..i cant get the Edit then Fill command to work for words like that as for numbers....tommy....PS ..i added my product caterosie to the sort list menus ..forget where actually ..then if i select a cell..it will popoulate repeatly my categories but only if i hold and drag down.....i am looking for the method to do like the numebers..cuz it goes to 1 million cells down...thankz if you know anything
It does not work on tables, is there an easy way to do this in a table? Thanks
what if i wanna autofill a formula?
What if I want to add 2500 then 2600 in the series then how ????
It does or doesn't fill formula?
I want to do this but with just the same value
how do you put 0's in 10000 rows. this formula does not work?! there are ways but like to work it easy way. by the way, you are good.
I want to format several thousand cells in a column, but I don't want to select the entire column because that caused issues before if I had to insert something.
Ok, so I'm not sure if this is a question or a statement. It seems like you have a particular scenario that is causing an issue. If you go to the forum www.teachexcel.com/talk/microsoft-office?src=yt and ask there, then you can include a sample file and it will be easier to help you.
The newer excel versions have altered the 'buttons'
Why start with number 1? What would happen if you started with different number?
nothing would happen the principle is still the same I started on 19500. Hope this helps
it didn't work for me if i used a number greater than 1. Will try again though.
This is decent, but it doesn't fill formulas for you.
How to do that then?
Suppose we take reference from another sheet then what do we have to do?
But once you have these numbers filled, all you need is click the auto filled box, formulas will fill in
Great but I need to subtract 1 second. Making a counter from 50:00 to 00:00....
>with a click of a single button
You clicked 10 buttons.
u went to rewind to count lol heeehee
Thank you so much
Thank you
