- Wayne Gretzky: This Hasek Move Was 'Impossible To Score Against'
Wayne Gretzky, the Great One himself, couldn't believe his eyes when Dominik Hasek pulled off this legendary save technique. In this video, we break down the exact moment The Dominator introduced his revolutionary "Hasek Roll" that left even #99 speechless. From Buffalo to Detroit, this signature move helped Hasek secure 6 Vezina Trophies and changed goaltending forever.
Watch as we analyze rare footage of Hasek's impossible saves against the game's greatest scorers. Even Martin Brodeur admitted this move was "pure genius." From his early days in Buffalo to winning the Stanley Cup, discover how this Czech legend revolutionized the position.

You forgot another of his once-in-a-lifetime contribution - 1998 Olympics where Czech Republic finally won against Russia in finals and left Nagano proud with a golden medal.
Jaromír Jágr, Dominik Hašek, Martin Ručinský, Robert Reichel, or Patrik Eliáš were there as well 🇨🇿
I remember watching the Olympics with our teacher during classes at school. That's how much our nation lives ice hockey and will never forget these heroes 🙌
Patrik Eliáš wasn't in Nagano.
@zbynekfilipi2694 You're right. Still a hero though :)
@@michalpenka absolute hall of fame snub
Best goalie ever. Hands down
as an ex Soviet and served Soviet Army in Czechoslovakia and huge fan of the Red Wings - Hasek is an absolute hokey legend!!!
Your crappy AI voice says Czechoslovkia like a drunken robot trying to convince the cops he can drive.
Also, Luc Roba-tile
@@AlyxiSistahTweaky25Came here to say this. 👍
An amazing player and an amazing video. Thank you!
Jako hráč skvělej, ale teď se zbláznil
Nice work... Just one thing... Nobody back in Czechoslovakia called him a "Dominator"... That nickname came only after his breaktrrough in the NHL, given to him by the NHL journalists...
What move did Gretzky not score on?
this one 👍🏼💅🏼
Gretzky is the greatest.
The Gretzky deek?
The hasek patented. Rolling shoulder save. The ultimate sprawling goalie. A legend
Impressive narration! Great job on the video and research.
While I do like the story, the voice over feels off. If it's an AI, that explains it. Nothing wrong with using an AI voice over, but do try to run some quality control on it.
Why have you not mentioned Nagano'98? Winning that tournamet meant much more than winning Stanley Cup. That was the peak of his lifetime, his performance shown in Nagano was from a different dimension.
Solid video. Patrick Roy deserves alot of credit but unfairly overshadows the Dominator in terms of revolutionizing the postion
Hasek would roll on his back and do moves we see all the time now from NHL goalies that no one ever thought of trying before him
The battle between Roy, Brodeur, and Hasek. Roy and Hasek are 1 and 2 in my book primarily because they had SH!T teams in front of them (for most of their career. Roy went to a stacked Av's team, and Dom went to the Wings) but still were badasses who kept their teams in competition. Brodeur was very lucky to be the goalie for the 1990's Devils who were pretty damn stacked. My point? Hasek and Roy had to work harder for their glory than Brodeur. Martin Brodeur would not have the stats he has if he was not on the Devils.
@chrisdelcamp3853 💯 on the first two, Brodeur isnt close in terms of raw goalkeeping but there was nobody better handling the puck. Hes the reason the Devils Lemaire 1-3-1 trap was really a 1-3-2 because he was an extra defenseman.
Devils clog the center and Brodeur robbed the dump and chase. Incredibly boring but it worked so well the NHL had to totally change their rules to nullify it
I'd go Lundquist though. Statistically no one is close to him in the past 30 years. Then Cujo and Fleury
Roy had good teams in Montréal too. Defensive minded too.
I don't understand how anyone can try to argue that Hasek revolutionized goaltending... He was incredible, sure! But he's had ZERO influence on goaltending trends, NONE.
If anything, goalies nowadays rely more and more on anticipation, technique and positioning, over pure reflexes.
@York3 i don't want to insult you but this is such a ridiculous statement I'm assuming it is a troll. The Dominator took the new butterfly style and add cartwheels, sprawls, flying poke checks and used the blocker like no one since of before
He was the first acrobat that used all his limbs at the same time. Best goalie of his era based on save percentages, quality of saves, Vezinas
One of the best, hands down
The flak Chicago gets for choosing Belfour over hasek isn’t really fair. Belfour was elite at the time, and a top 5-10 goalie in the league his whole career
Seriously, The Hawks weren't really wrong to let Hasek go at the time. Belfour won the Vezina already and did go on to win the Vezina the very next season. I mean granted Hasek won the Vezina the following two seasons after that (and several more over the course of his career), but there is absolutely no guarantee at the time of the trade that Hasek would come good on his potential as a rookie.
Drafted #199, he proved the scouts wrong
But there was no chance to play for till 1989
Nice video. I live in the Detroit area and have fond memories of the Dominator
pronounce their names correctly, maybe watch the click bait, Gretzky?
Very very cool video!!! Us Buffalo folk have several instances to be eternally greatful for in Sabres history. Dom is WAY at / if not THE top spot.
You're right, Hasek is a true icon for Buffalo.
Terrible AI video. Things are pronounced all wrong and the images are lined up at the wrong time per the context of what the narrator is talking about. AI sucks.
Most shortsighted trades in NHL history is a bit harsh. The Hawks did have Ed Belfour who was already an established goaltender and went on to be one of the other top 5 goalie's of the 90's and throughout his career.
Hasek at the time was a somewhat promising rookie goaltender that would have been a big gamble to keep and let Belfour go but would've been a waste to keep them both around. Maybe they could have gotten better returns for him, maybe, but any major criticism of that trade comes with a huge helping of hindsight being 20/20.
Very interesting vid
"Slinky for a spine, priceless."
Last time I was in the Garden MSG, I saw Greatzky playing against Dominik Hasek,,,
NYR V Sabres
Not my last time but I was at those games as well. Wayne wasn't at his peak but it was a real pleasure seeing him
He was still a magician at that point
Nagano not mentioned????
5:33 why is it a clip of Marc Andre Fleury making a save
leave it to the blackhawks to let him get away!
You don't know anything about Goaltending, he played long before the goalies you showed . He played reactionary like all goalies of his era .Though he created a few different moves and styled saves he still was considered Hybrid stand up butterfly .
I hated Hasek in the 90's and thought he was overrated. But as time went on and I watched reels and stuff, I realize I just hated his mask. What a goalie (with a stupid mask)!
@@classic.cameras 😂
Robi-tile?
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. But use your own voice.
There are tons of channels with good content but the narrators make them unwatchable. I can handle a mispronunciaton here and there better than someones monotone voice or odd vocal inflections and annoying speech patterns.
Great video, bad title means no like button.
Thanks for the view
Two players changed the game
Orr & Hasek
It also costs nothing to get player names right. Totally disrespectful. I can't press Don't Recommend fast enough
To score on hashek, you just need to elevate the puck 1 foot off the ice, as he's pretending to be a fish out of water.😂
Is this AI?
AI narrator I think, it was the slow way it kept saying Czech-oslo-vak-ia.
Love the video but is it me or is the goalie comparison half a minute in is showing a bunch of goalies from a whole other era 🤔
And now he is crazy hh
Chicago was on the wrong side of two monumental trades ......trading Esposito, Stanfield & Hodge to Boston
And Hasek to Buffalo
You heard of a management with vision....well, Chicago had double vision, their GM was drunk on power & stupidity
nevermind
Fail.
Work on name pronunciation. Hasek is pronounced as if there's an h after the s. like Hash -ek. And it's Luc Robitaille is pronounced Rob-a tie, not rob-a-tile. Go back and listen to the announcers for help on this. Just don't listen to Don Cherry because he purposely and disrespectfully mispronounced players names if they weren't simple enough for him and especially if they weren't Canadian. "Good Canadian kid" Otherwise, great show. Well done!
And that is how it is pronounced in video…
There was one where you pronounced it wrong. Not ragging on you buddy, I just found it odd, so I mentioned it. The same thing happened with Yzerman's name. No biggie, it slips through occasionally. Easy to slip when reading from a script. I do the same thing
The video is about twice as long as it should be.
Hasek wasn't the greatest goaltender. It is either Bernie Parent or Grant Fuhr. Maybe Patrick Roy too. So three way tie. The late 1990's hold, clutch and grab made Hasek and Brodeur look like they are both 7 foot 8 and 400 pounds.
Riiiiight. You forgot your pills.
this has to be the single dumbest take i have ever seen. Parent, Fuhr and Roy all played in the clutch and grab era. On top of that you can't even compare Hasek to parent and Fuhr. Also hasek was playing in the 2000's and he was still at the top of his game while parent played way back in the 70s when clutching and grabbing was far more common. same with fuhr who played in the 80s. saying bernie parent is better the hasek is like saying the rocket is better then Gretzky. The only one that is comparable is roy and even then hasek is better. next do some research before saying something stupid
Agree...@@jonahginter9558
