So I am old enough and live in Texas so many years ago. A great band never signed - 30 years later, this album is a goto - and for future generations to enjoy.
The Go•Go’s stole 20:21 She’s Got The Beat and rewrote it to be the classic Go•Go’s song We Got The Beat.... I can’t believe they’d do that!! Listen to the two songs, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
It hurts my soul that these guys didn't have a hall-of-fame career in music. This stuff was genius and they barely qualified as adults when they recorded!
Their "stage show" was just these 3, occasionally 4(?) guys performing, playing pots & pans, & throwing water on the audience - and that was all that was needed. It was perfect!!!!
I was in the same Grade as David Beans older sister was, and we all went to the same church for awhile. I really enjoyed this album back in those days. It's nostalgic for me listening to it even today. 👍
My mom has been telling me about this band since I was 4... “All the pretty girls, all the pretty girls in high school.... MAKE ME SIIICK!!!” Has become a *household* saying. Thank you to whoever posted this! My mom has been a fan since the early 80s!
I was at UT in 1980, a couple guys in my dorm were friends of the band. They came and partied with us then we went to the club on 6th Street they were playing at. Cool times for sure
Being from Houston, and in high school right around the time these guys were putting out records, my friends and I were big fans. I was there when they opened for the B-52's in Houston ... Bean did an a cappella version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" ... wish I had a recording of that!
That sounds amazing...good lord I wish I could have seen it. I had a copy of this album on cassette in nineteen eighty something and fell in love right away...years later finding the record that made this video. LOVE my other record by them as well with Vacation in Tehran and Radiation Squirm. Thanks for commenting!
I'm in my twenties and I love them. I'm from Pearland, where they are from. My grandmother babysat one of them when he was a kid... I don't remember which band member it was...
I first heard the Judy’s -Ghost in a Bikini on KNON (90.9 DFW public radio) on a Halloween show. I listened to their alternative shows to hear bands I couldn’t hear any where else, recording them to listen to over and over again.
This album is amazing. It's such a shame nobody know's this band. It's part of my childhood. There is some rumor that this was the unheralded band that provoked a group of people in Austin to start a music festival in the center of the country. That festival became SXSW.
@@eaglebauersrecordcollection That seems unlikely -- you may be thinking of the Judy's reunion at SXSW's Austin Music Awards show around 2007(?). AMA boss Margaret Moser was best friends with the Judy's manager EA Srere, but it took a hint from me about them being interested that got her all giddy and she booked them immediately...
Omg thank u so much for putting this album on RUclips I've been looking for this album everywhere. I went to this concert when I was 14 year old in Houston tx man thanks again you brought lot of good memories back
Thank ou! Stumbling upon this just made my day! I paid $20 for the Moo cassette, in Dallas, TX 1988. I lost it the same day I lost my VW Rabbit.... the Judy's Cassette was the most valuable item in the car.
That’s tragic! I’m so glad to be part of the reunion though…and I also have the whole Moo album posted! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/rIYvkdprATM/видео.html Lived in the Dallas area (Wylie) for a few years and my wife is from there as well. Thanks for the great comment and kind words friend. 😊
I hadn't heard this album in so long. Finding it on youtube is like discovering new music again. I went to North Harris County CC and Texas A&M in the 80s and The Judys were popular along with Joe King Carrasco, Trout Fishing in America, and The Dishes. I used to have this in my vinyl collection but finding it now is difficult. I'm surprised they did not have more commercial success. It's quirky and fun. Good memories. Sounds like a mix of Buddy Holly, Devo and the Talking Heads.
OMG I have been trying to remember this band for a decade! I was only about 3 years old when they debuted. I used to listed to tape copies of my siblings New Wave albums and listen to them on repeat. This album was part of that set that I listed to as a small child (I'm thinking the 8 - 10 yr old range?). About 10 years ago, I tried desperately to remember the name of this band, and I just couldn't. Finally today I remembered they sang a song called "Ghost in a Bikini" and that led me to this video. I can finally re-listen to these songs after all these years!!
So glad to hear I was able to help! Ghost in a Bikini was on their “Moo” album which I don’t have yet but I’m working on. I remember first hearing this album on cassette in 1990-ish and instantly getting hooked!
Thank you thank you thank you thank you! I must’ve listen to this album 500 times. It was constantly blasting in my dorm room at Austin College in the early 80s. I have no idea why these guys never were number one!
Grew up in Alief, TX. My buddy played the crap out of his Judy's cassettes...and now they're embedded in my memory forever. "Guyana Punch" and "All the Pretty Girls" lyrics often fall out of my mouth for no reason at all. Agree with others here - surprised they didn't continue longer than they did. Let's hope the younger generation stop here and listen to the entire album.
Grew up in Alief too!! From 70-91 . Loved the Judy's!! It was mine and my friend's beach music... Memories at The Galveston Beach.... Partying w/ my best HS friends.... Great times....
In the early 90s, our Dallas alternative station 94.5 The Edge would occasionally play "All The Pretty Girls". Radio announcer "Spike" told me he hated this song when I requested it. But he was a good sport and played it for me. The lead singer has a bit of Buddy Holly in his voice.
I'm a fan for sure. Also lived in Houston in the 1980s. Anyone heard of the Haskells? Would like to hear some of their stuff again, too. I like the dark lyrics and the simple music of Bean and the Judys. In some ways, they remind me of Buddy Holly, another Texas pioneer. Anyone else think there is some similarities? Maybe just the simplicity and short songs remind me of this... I suspect that Holly might offer some inspiration for the singing style, but I could be wrong...
Wow i finally found this album. I have a cassette with this whole album but no other info. I was digging through my cassettes and finally found a note written in a cassette case The Judy's Washarama
Happy to help! They were a huge part of the Houston TX scene in the early 1980s and their lead singer David Bean released one solo album, which I’ve also got posted. Also have their EP “The Wonderful World Of Appliances” up if you want to give either of those a listen. I’m on the lookout for the Moo Album as well. Thanks for the comment!
The Judy’s has only two albums: Washarama and Moo. This is their sound. They had the best concerts and a huge following among college students in the late 80s-early 90s.
theyve got an ep as well called the wonderful world of appliances, you can find it on youtube if you just look up the title, but unfortunately i think moo might only be available in physical formats
If you were a teen in Houston back then YOU can answer this... Which station would you call to request this album...the entire album? a) KILT b) KLOL c) KHCB d) KRBE e) KTRU Also included which side of your room did you have to move the radio to so you could hear...since the station was only 300 watts back then.
Since you helped me out recently and I didn't know you were the same guy who uploaded this album, I was wondering do you have the Judys Moo album? I'd love to hear it if you do
Hello again…I don’t have the Moo Album yet but it is on my want list and I’m probably going to be snapping it up before too terribly long. Meantime… I do have David Bean’s solo album (singer/founding member of the Judys) up which is pretty hard to come by and most people don’t know about: ruclips.net/video/w1thDlLuvLE/видео.html and also the Judys’ Wonderful World of Appliances EP: ruclips.net/video/8-MMHlsCaRs/видео.html I’ll let you know when I do get ahold of the Moo Album and get it up!

Omergerd! Thanks tons! LOVE all of these butI been searching for " you never call me"
Wow! Must be 40 years ago and I still remember every lyric, every note.
I grew up listening to The Judy's, I'm 23 and I still LOVE them, I wish they were more popular, I've been having such a hard time finding CDs
The Pride of Pearland. My favorite local band when I was a kid.
It hurts my soul that these guys didn't have a hall-of-fame career in music. This stuff was genius and they barely qualified as adults when they recorded!

How great to hear this album again, after (gasp) over 40 years. The quality is excellent, as if you were hearing the LP for the first time.
I had this one back in the early 80s, played Guyana Punch at a party-- blew minds. Kinda like the B-52's at that time-- just fun music.
I was in the same Grade as David Beans older sister was, and we all went to the same church for awhile.
I really enjoyed this album back in those days. It's nostalgic for me listening to it even today. 👍

You have a great Mom!
my dad used to play this album over and over when i was a kid. a senior in high school and i know all the words still
Pearland High School Rocks! Class of 82' remembers the Judy's very well.
I was at UT in 1980, a couple guys in my dorm were friends of the band. They came and partied with us then we went to the club on 6th Street they were playing at. Cool times for sure
I remember passing by a club on 6th Street they were playing in during the early 80s. The place was packed and people were having a great time.
Same here!
I had a similar experience while attending UT.
Weird how I remember all the words to the the whole record like '84 (?) But can't remember what I had for breakfast!
Your brain works perfectly! Breakfast never is worth remembering anyway.
Put a fun beat and bass line to your breakfast menu and you'll remember it for 40 years!
My mom just said the same thing! She saw them live in ‘84 - ‘86, I’ve grown up hearing her singing ALLL these songs A cappella my whole life.
I loved the Judys in the mid 80's and they are still amazing to listen to.
THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!
Being from Houston, and in high school right around the time these guys were putting out records, my friends and I were big fans. I was there when they opened for the B-52's in Houston ... Bean did an a cappella version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" ... wish I had a recording of that!

I saw the B-52's and the Judys in Dallas at the Wintergarden Ballroom. Still one of my favorite concerts of all time.
Yes! Just got my copy of WONDERFUL WORLD OF APPLIANCES after years of searching!
Like many, I was introduced to the Judys by George Gilmarc and the Rock and Roll Alternative. I'm glad that their music will live forever here.

The Island in Houston that was the punk rock sense 🎉
Early 1980's Houston Punk scene. At the time this was a completely new sound at the time. Earliest punk.
