My theory for Ranbo losing all lives is that dream lost 2 of his cannon lives so Ranbo at the time lost both and the reason for him in the prison is the tnt that made Tommy die

I think Ranboo definitely lost his other 2 canon lives while enderwalking. We don’t know what happens when he enderwalks and neither does he. He writes in his books but can’t understand it because it’s in enderspeak. To lose his other two canon lives surely one of 3 things must have happened while he was in the enderwalk state. 1- Someone might have killed him and therefore someone on the server did it and knows what happened. 2- Hé might have done it himself, Ghostboo talks about how great being dead is and I’ve seen online people saying c!Ranboo might have been suicidal so that backs up that theory. 3- Thé enderwalk state might be the ‘other person/side’ showing through and maybe the other side made him enderwalk so it could kill him, be revived and therefore be split from the other side. Or maybe Dream did it because I guess he is inside his head. Maybe Dream can control him,

I have a theory, the revive book doesn’t actually create lives, it transfers lives from one player to another. Ranboo had somehow lost 2 canon lives before Sam killed him, what if Dream transferred some of Ranboo’s lives to Tommy and Will?
That makes a lot off sense actually.
That makes sense because like when you think of atoms they can never be created or destroyed and instead only transferred but this would probably mean when someone canonically dies that life gets transferred to someone else which could be confusing to think about. Maybe Mumza since she’s like a goddess of death and stuff so the more death the more lives she gets. Don’t know how Ranboo would be connected with giving his lives to revived people and stuff but maybe when dream uses the book he’s able to choose who loses a cannon life for someone else to gain one and he chooses Ranboo because he forgets things and most likely wouldn’t notice a difference. That’s probably also why he didn’t care if Ranboo died because he was on his last life and was useless to dream now since he couldn’t really have any more lives from him so he’ll just go on to take lives from other people whenever he wants to revive a person

I think the thing about "death" here in the DSMP is mostly about willingness, for example if you die, but you want to live, your soul is strong enough to come back to life but your soul is now weaker, until your soul is too weak you are stuck in the void (basically can't come back) (idk about Phil tho since he's special).
But Ranboo on the other hand, he *wanted* to stay dead

@@copowl8061 I think the revival ritual is like a buff to your soul, making it strong enough to come back alive one more time. Tommy wanted to stay alive so his willingness combine with the buff from the revival book helped him come back. So if my theory is true, even when Dream use the revival book at Ranboo he won't come back unless he wants to

It actually seems like whatever a ghost is feeling, it's the opposite of the person in limbo. Whenever Wilbur was first in limbo, he wanted to get our, wanted to be revived. And in the overworld, we had Ghostbur being happy being dead, not wanting to be revived.
But over time, as Wilbur accepts his death in the years he faces in limbo, Ghostbur starts to want to be revived, wants to become alive again. It stays this way until Tommy's revival.
Once Tommy is revived, Wilbur has seen hope. There's a way for him to get out now. Ghostbur tells the opposite, saying that he wants to stay dead.
I think that the same thing is happening with Ranboo and Boo. Ranboo doesn't *want* to be dead and stuck in limbo. But Boo goes around proclaiming to everyone he met that he loves being dead.

I’m just throwing this idea out here to see what everyone thinks. If we get new members joining the SMP, (or someone already there) I want to see a smith type character. What I mean by this is someone on the server who makes custom armor and weapons for everyone and they all look different. This is possible without mods, you can use a texture pack to make custom 3D models for weapons and armor, all you have to do is rename it in an anvil. I got this idea from the Empires SMP, where they do similar role play kind of stuff, but everyone has unique armor and weapons to match their character.

From what we know, the personality changes after revival aren't a result of said revival. Rather, they change as people due to the experience both in death and limbo.
For Wilbur, he experienced 13 and a half years of isolation, which made him cherish the moments with others and gave him plenty of time to think over his choices in life. When revived, he simply brought those 13 and a half years of experience with him, hence why he's different in comparison to before his death.
For Tommy, he experienced death at the hands of Dream, then had months in complete darkness, of which played into his fears even more. On top of that he spent that time with Wilbur. It's no wonder that when he came back from his limbo he acted so different. He essentially had all of his pride and ego shattered in a single moment, leaving him helpless and afraid of ever going back to that state. Much like Wilbur, his revival didn't change him, his experiences did.
Ranboo may be a special case given his incomplete memory and split form, but personality-wise I imagine it'll still be a result of his experiences more than anything else. For example, his revival may result in him regaining all his lost memories and becoming whole, or even worse losing all his memories once more and being reduced to a shell of his former self. Regardless, I've never seen his Enderwalk stage as his "evil half" - rather it's just his other half, the memories he chose to bury and hide from - his "true self" being if both sides were combined. Whether he'll ever accept those memories is another topic entirely.

Him losing all his ways could be a cool idea it would be a huge inconvenience and ranboo could be Manipulated very easily bye others would be a nice piece of drama
I remember also someone saying his limbo is completely angst. Meaning, it would be completely traumatizing for him. When he comes back, I can only imagine what he's gonna be like.
Maybe Ranboo never had 3 cannon lives? Maybe him joining the SMP was canonically Dream reviving him? Maybe that's why Dream has so much control over him?

Looking at the animation that was posted on the Z account, ranboo's first 2 canon lives might've been lost offscreen before ranboo died to sam (hence them disappearing before the 3rd heart being shattered). Maybe ranboo died during his enderwalk stage, probably while ranboo was doing something related to breaking dream out. That's why sam would want to use ranboo as a hostage: dream would have known that ranboo was on his last canon life. The only thing is that sam ended up overestimating how much dream cared for his "ally"
He threatened to kill someone to who can revive people. Techno brought this up during his stay in prison so it might’ve stuck in Dreams head. Or Ranboo was never Dreams Ally and the Dream voice that he heard was deceiving him to hate Dream or something.

In the video that Z uploaded it showed two hearts fade away and the last one break. The last one breaking clearly symbolizes him losing a life via dying. So what would fading away mean?
This is speculation but I think that Ranboo may have only had a single canon life this whole time, or at least a while. The way the hearts faded reminded me of an illusion disappearing. If he did have one life it could be because of his enderman abilities. Phil has shown us that a character can have less canon lives in exchange for other things (long life but only has one). And other than his minor water problem and endwalk, Ranboo didn’t have too many downsides to his abilities so maybe having only one life was a trade off.
(Extra theories: He also did have a small arc where he was experimenting on himself with a vat of water so he could’ve lost something there. He may have also lost lives due to his endwalk and just never remembered dying those times.)

My friend and I theorised that instead of Ranboo losing ALL his canon lives at one time, whenever Dream revives someone he actually TAKES one of Ranboo's canon lives in exchange (or maybe he can take anyone's lives, but he just picked Ranboo). So Dream revived Tommy and then Wilbur which left Ranboo on one life without him even knowing.
It's a little bit weird as it would imply that the "revive" book can't actually revive people and introduce more canon lives into the mix, but we also don't even know whether or not Tommy and Wilbur have 1 canon life. They might have 3 so reviving them being the only way to introduce more canon lives into the circulation.
But yeah, that's our theory.
It's also evidenced by Enderwalking Ranboo's connection to Dream and doing his bidding, while also explaining why Dream really didn't care if Sam killed Ranboo because he could either: just revive him, or was just using Ranboo as sort of.... A battery, for his reviving and once he's dead Dream can just use someone else. Plus, Dream is BASICALLY all-powerful ANYWAY, sooo
This actually makes sense. Could be! It’s very weird that Ranboo just died on the spot, without dying canonically at all. If the revive book did transfer lives from one player to another, that could possibly be a way for Dream to gain more power. He revives the villains, and he takes the lives from the people who are most likely not going to join his side. When reviving the villains, they will most likely be on his side, meaning the good side will slowly die and then Dream will hold the power. My only question is, Why would he revive Tommy? I mean, maybe he just wanted to torment him more but that doesn’t seem reasonable. I’m thinking he might take Tommy, and then make him someone on his side. Since Tommy is quite fierce, and is not one who backs down easily. It kind of makes sense but doesn’t at the same time. That’s only a theory though. 👌
The explanation I thought of in my head is, well, we don't SEE enderwalk Ranboo so maybe while enderwalking he suffered two offscreen canon deaths and simply nobody knew about it since nobody knows what goes on when he's enderwalking. These then may come up as people look into what it is he was doing in all that missing time.
I think that when Ranboo died, he split apart with each of his halves having 1 canon life explaining why his combined form had only 1 canon life. I think the ranboo ghost we see is the combined ghost with the other 2 halves elsewhere
My theories on what happened to the other lives:
1. Maybe if the two halves count as two different deaths? That still begs the question of where’s the third? Maybe, every time he dies, he loses a side? So at some point, he had three, then two, then one state?
2. Maybe enderwalk lost all the other lives? This seems to be to me the easiest answer, as he goes off for hours… where we have no idea what he’s doing.
3. Maybe, Dream used Ranboo’s lives to bring back Tommy and Wilbur? Like a soul for a soul? We know he hears at least a voice of Dream, maybe that’s a physical manifestation of their connection via the lives lost.
4. Maybe, Ranboo was like Phil all along with 1; seems odd, but an actual possibility.
I also am curious about the ghosts; why are they there? What is their point for existing and how are they made and what are they made from? Does everyone get a ghost- then why didn’t Tommy’s ghost pop into existence right after his death? Plot (easiest explanation because he came back in three days)? Maybe lorewise, he didn’t need one like Wilbur and Ranboo, like they had something still needed to be done? Is it some sort of attachment to the earth or an object, like humming (GhostBoo) and blue (GhostBur)? Why does GhostBoo know he’ll disappear if he hums or sings, and why was GhostBur more physical to the world, where he wouldn’t disappear; yes, water or snow hurt him, but he wouldn’t move on from that plane of existence. Maybe, Ghostboo, that portion of Ranboo, is the good stuff? The stuff filtered out and able to move on? But that still leaves Ranboo condemned to the InBetween, which is certainly no afterlife, if it is even the Inbetween. If it’s the Inbetween, what is it Inbetween? Is that the *neutral* place, like what you make of it is what it is and our characters just think it’s torture? What about Manifold’s hell? How he climbed out, can they climb out of the Inbetween or is it different?
Questions, so many questions!!!

i actually might think that the reason why tommy didn’t get a ghost is because only if the alive/normal person (wilbur, ranboo) is going to stay in limbo for a long amount of time (like how wilbur was in limbo for 13 years) then a ghost appears? and tommy didn’t get one because he was revived quickly. idk tho

I think that c!Sam killed Ranboo two times before sorta like with c!Dream before he was put in prison and that's why the video showed two hearts fading away at first and then the final heart being broken by c!Sam.
He lost 2 other cannon lives off screen, sam did not know about these cannon deaths.
Potential theory about the lives:
What if (due to having 2 halves) Ranboo lost 2 lives due to dying, possibly showing 2 people sharing 1 body and lives, but because only 1 life remained it was split into 2, causing the death of Ranboo, this also tying in to the video posted on the Z twitter account.

The idea of Ranboo splitting into two characters is a really interesting theory. That would be really cool to see.
I think Wilbur didnt change but he got more apprrciation for life. The way he talks to Tommy is more manipulative i think.
One of the prisons polices is that if you where involved in the escape of a prisoner then Sam would hunt you down until you where fully dead. Ranboo would have respawned in the prison. My theory is that after Sam killed Ranboo he went back into the prison to kill Ranboo two more times.
just a theory, when sam kills ranboo he uses an axe which is named “wardens will” maybe that axe grants whatever sam wants when he kills someone for example maybe sam wanted ranboo to actually be dead if dream didnt come back so when he killed ranboo, the axe granted that wish and removed all 3 canon life from ranboo. idk jst a theory

On Tommy’s stream after the prison break, Ranboo said that he only had one canon life, in which Philza responded with “like me”. So some people might just have one canon life.

a few theories: It’s possible that Ranboo lost 2 cannon lives while in the enderwalk state or like you mentioned him splitting into 2 separate beings then maybe thy each have 1 cannon life and the combined version, which is Ranboo, had 1 too but lost it.
I think rabbo lost 2 of his cannon lives while in an ended walk stage or Sam potentially using the nuke could potentially have found away to take away 3 cannon lives in one kill.

In the contract people sign to get into the prison it says something like: "The waren has the authority to kill you until fully dead if you help the prisoner escape" so I guess that's evidence that canon sam knows about the three canon lives and know that to make sure someone's not a threat is to kill them three times.
Leading on to your theory made me think of an explanation of why Ranboo lost all 3 lives,
When sam killed Ranboo both sides of Ranboo were also killed leaving Ranboo to fall apart. Two hearts were taken away from the death of the two sides and since there was nothing left of Ranboo his laft life fell into peices like when it did on the arg video
A third about y Rambo lost all 3 cannon life’s in one death : there are three different people or dieting under the same being (rambo) a good side and a bad side and the side that takes control the being when dream takes control
While i think that ranboos character getting split in half would be interesting, I remember in an old stream where ranboo said he wasnt going a “jekyll and hyde” scenario with his character, so if he does split, i doubt itll be as clear as good and evil
I kind of think once he gets revived it’ll be like a Jekyll and Hyde scenario, where there are two personalities in one body, that are separate and aware of eachother, but fighting each other aswell

I love this idea of a reverse personality after being revived. This would probably lead to more Dream interaction.

I feel like it's much more likely that Ranboo had just lost his first two canon lives previously - either during his enderwalk state or before he joined the SMP. I'm assuming everyone's characters don't just appear out of thin air when they join, instead they had lives before the SMP (Tales from the SMP would back this up as we witness events happening before the SMP began), and so there's always going to have been the chance for characters to have lost canon lives earlier on in their life before they became a part of the story. It would be strange if all characters magically had 3 canon lives independent of what's happened to them before they joined the SMP. This would work out well for an explanation of Ranboo's missing canon lives as his terrible memory and lack of a memory book before he joined the SMP could easily mean he's lost canon lives before and just didn't remember it.
To me that seems like a much more logical explanation than Sam taking all his lives at once. Especially since in the animation the first two hearts fade out and only the last one breaks - to me implying that he only lost one life that day, the other two having been already lost.

Ik this is old but to clear it up it’s explained in Wilbur’s lore story on AO3, “going on 16”, how Ranboo lost his second life.
If ranboo is truly connected to dream then that makes sense that he didn't have 3 canon lives because dream got two of his taken by Tommy.

Rewatching this after what recently happened to gostboo makes me think this: I think the two sides are somehow permanently fused together. And if they are going to do a, split personality, they should do a battle on the mind scenario. It would fit my personal cannon and it would be easier on the players not having to worry about getting a new account.

So funny story, Ranboo died one to Tommy's llama and another time to dream in pandora's vaut when he went to visit.
Wait, maybe his full canon death is because he’s two entities combined as one. It’s like he lives with three hearts (two hearts for the two halves and one core heart) and loses all three upon death. Essentially, he’s been on hardcore mode (like Phil) since birth.

One Correction: a major part of Ranboo's lore is his 'enderwalk' state, something comparable to Sleepwalking (hence the name). In this Enderwalk state, it's been hinted that he does stuff. These are shown by his tools having lower durability, him being low on certain materials, etc.
As such, it's incredibly likely that at some point while he was in his Enderwalk state, he lost 2 of his canon lifes. Sam didn't somehow kill Ranboo once and take all of his lifes, it was just that no one, not even Ranboo, knew he was on one life.
Its funny because ranboo has like 18,000,000 totems (more than anyone else on the server) the fact that he got 1 canon life is just hysterical.
One thing that I can see happening if this is true is Schlage returning through the extra person that is in Ranboo. Like you said one is evil, and Schlage plays a mostly evil part in the Smp, and is still dead. If he was going to be revived I can see him being revived that way, and would also fill the open spot that someone would have to play if ranboo split into two entities.

İf he was killed 1 time İ feel both sides will take 1 Canon life so he would lose 2
But then when he had 1 life when killed another time he would have - 1 i feel that makes 1 part of him dead dead and the positive part (White probably) be able to Come back to the smp as a ghost
But why Did he lose 3 though İ think it has something to do with the other side dying whilst in control which if he is the main controller when dying would make him the first to lose a life, then the White side and then when ranboo died while the White side is in control the White side would be the first to die at which point there would be 0 lives when Black side dies and the Blacks death would make it - 1 which is why İ think the Black side couldnt Come back which could be the reason ghostboo was so positive
And also probably the dead dead side (Black) will be revived if the book is used and ranboo would be evil blah blah, why you May ask?

Theory: Ranboo lost a life in one of his lore streams called “lessons”. You can see Ranboo grabbing a bucket of water the screen turning black and hearing the enderman scream. Which means the Ranboo killed himself which made him lose a life.
I think Ranboo and Dream shares the same canon life and that's the reason why Ranboo only got 1 canon life left
Theory: ranboo lost all 3 at once because as dream and him are connected and dream lost 2 of em while the time tommy putted him in the prison soo as their connected ranboo and dream lost them at the same time and it kinda makes sense cause the image ranboo tweeted showed that he lost 2 at once (means it were gone at the same time) and the last one was broken (gone at once)
if Dream and Ranboo were connected then Dream would have died when Sam killed Ranboo aswell
I always theorize Ranboo having 1 life may be from when he first joined, Dream actually killed him twice right off the bat, though I don’t know if those deaths actually counted. That or he is somehow connected to the revival book, and that the lives used to bring back Wilbur and Tommy were actually his lives. Which could also explain a little about why they changed so much. I honestly can’t remember if Tommy’s and Wilbur’s revivals were before Ranboo joined or after. (I know I’m late and I miss the smoke so much)
I think the reason why ranboo only has 1 cannon life is:
I heart for him, another for enderwalk, and another one from the enderwalk state, so he doesn't know about it
Sam said if he caught someone breaking into the prison, his character can kill all three canon lives in one
ok so this is my theory
when dream first got the revive book, he wanted to test it, so he found a random enderman, killed it and tried to revive it. because the revive book was only meant to revive humans, something went wrong and ranboo was made. he only had one canon life because he is already half a ghost. to prove this i’m pretty sure that after dream revived tommy, he (dream) said that he (dream) wanted to test the revive book on SOMEONE.

i think that the reason why ranboo died fully upon his first death is due to the multiple personalities of him, 1, ran, 2,boo, and the third being ranboo, the union of 1 and 2, therefore effectively killing 3 people all at once, ultimately killing ranboo

Maybe ranboo lost his previous two cannon lives before he was introduced into the story line so maybe Karl could time travel and find out how he lost them
Fun fact: The three hearts thing is using animation from Undertale, the sprites of the hearts and the shattering of the middle one, all from Undertale (just not in the game, an animation using the sprites from the game.)
When you revive ranboo he explodes due to the both sides trying to leave his body
I feel like c!ranboo while in limbo can still enter his enter walk state and just mindlessly wander around the area that he is in, so I feel like as he is being brought back he is in his enderwalk state so his black ender side gets split with the unknown side and where the ender side used to be is now a dull light gray color with his eye color being a darker gray connected with the unknown side and he can’t remember anything except big events that happened and can’t remember who did what and only voices are remembered, everyone’s faces are a blur and a small vague memory of everyone WHILE he was in his ghost state.

to "protect" Michael
a ranboo theory:
Ranboo's one half is an enderman (which can travel at any point through space. so what if his other half was a creature that could travel through time (as time and space is a pair we see everyone in sci fi and its an irl topic in physics). We also see time travel in tales from smp where the 'inbetween' was white and other side was black, (just like ranboo). So ranboo might be sus and behind something serious in terms of lore.

Maybe Ranboo lost two lives in enderwalk state and from Boomers lore Sam could of gotten knowledge from one of he's many bodies hidden around the server
Dream killes ranboo twice when he joins, explaining why he doesn't lose a cannon life shortly after, since then he would become a ghost way early
I'm pretty sure he fully died because when you enter the prison you sign a book saying, "You will be hunted down until you are fully dead."
I believe because his two halves are fused if they both die he loses all canon lives so his soul

actually i like to believe his first canon life was lost when he visited dream because his second life was lost in lore that was never streamed because he was blown up infront of Tubbo, Wilbur and Quakity trying to protect Tubbo from canonically dying and possibly becoming a ghost

I actually have a little theory that ranboo's white half is the white enderman and it would work as ranboo's evil side. The white enderman is a creepypasta, it is hostile and is immune to water.
I think Sam believed Ranboo first wanted to be in the prison to help Dream break out, because at that point Dream was still captive in the prison.
Just so everyone knows, the reason Charlie and Ranboo have only 1 cannon life is because they are part mobs. Mob/Human mixes on the DSMP only get 1 life.
Who want's to bet that if C!Ranboo get's spit up when he's revived, one half is the brat prince O!Ranboo from the Origins SMP

So if we’re going by the theory that Ranboo is two parts, but he’s also himself. So when Sam killed him, the two lost a life and then Ranboo himself lost a life, so 3 life’s lost all at once. But that’s just a theory, a DreamSMP Theory.
What is he didn’t lose all three lives, but instead every life that he is in, is a new stage of his personality?
This would also mean that the ender walks that he has would just be one of his of stages of lives taking over for a bit

Ok what if the reason ranboo turned into a ghost after dieing is because his 2 canon lives that disappeared symbolise his 2 halves fusing into one ranboo and when ranboo goes into his ender walk state is when the sides are out of balance and causing ranboo to kinda just blink out consciousness
i dont think anyone noticed this but on the z twitter account the hearts are from undertale and the heart break animation is when frisk(the main character dies) and then is brought back to life also the two sides of rambo thing also applies to frick and chara since they share a body and soul

What I think is the reason why ranboo had one life is because I think each of his 3 lives were apart of him like, one was the ghast side, one was the ender man side, and the last one was the enderwalk side, so they merged together to make Ranboo’s one life and when Ranboo died to Sam, he lost his last life and became a ghost.

the reason there’s a personality change in revived characters is because time is much faster in limbo! i’m pretty sure multiple years passed while wilbur was in his limbo, and usually people change over the years
Remember the tale of the dmsp in the coliseum? We saw a character (Ran if my memory is good) that look like Ranboo, and keep looking at Karl almost the entire stream.
What if it this part is actually the real Ranboo and the white part the enderwalk part, that disappear by being resurected because you can only bring back 1 "person" and not 2?
That would also mean the tale take place in the future and not in the past 🤔
My theory of why Ranboo died with all lives is because of his three forms. Maybe that one death counted for all of his forms which fully killed him.
What if Ranboo is some sort of the void physical in between? He is made half the dark castle and half the white, since only the middle heart is gone it means that he is no longer capable of stoping the black castle take over the white(or the opposite)
Oh and there's also the possibility that Ranboo is a mix of the tow entities that spoke to Tubbo on the screan if someone else remembers:^)

Two endermen, a month to find each other, must fuse together to live, fuse into ranboo, ranboo dies, becomes dead, dream revives him, ran and boo split, now only have a week to live, fuse together, it just keeps on going till they only have 1 second to live
You know what would be so cool, if Ranboo does come back as two parts.
If he would make a stream, where he plays one side live and someone else the other side, BUT he has prerecorded dialouge from Ranboo for that other half, so they can talk with his voice. It would be a lot more scripted, but that would be so cool. Like the other one, who plays the second Ranboo, can kinda play the audio on cue, when its needed. Kinda like the scene, where dream and dreamxd where both in prison and got a bell, just with actual spoken dialouge by Ranboo.
(No idea how they did that with dream and his alter ego god, I just immagine dream sitting at his desk, controling dream account and a laptop on his lab controlling dreaxd. That would be so funny xD)
Actually in a stream ranboo splashed a water splash potion on himself and the stream went black, which could be one of the two unexplained cannon lives lost, as well as Wilbur soots stream having ranboo die again, of course that might not be cannon lore but it still is evidence that ranboo had one life or at least a metaphor for dying for tubbo another way in lore
Theory maybe why Ranboo got killed once and lost all three cannon lives is that both of the sides has 1 lives and Ranboo has 1 live so when he gets killed it starts the chain reaction that’s destroys all the lives
I bet he lost 2 of his lives in his Enderwalk state which is why he probably doesn't know he only had 1 life left

i think i may have 2 theories of why ranboo lost all of his lives to sam...
we all know when ranboo logged into the the server for the first time he got killed multiple times and he said "I've been shot about two times already" so that means he may have had lost 2 cannon lives because of that so when sam killed him he must've lost his last canonic life...
the second theory is this
of course we all know that the revival book is used for reviving and of course if theres one for reviving there must be one for taking...
