i don't know the actual difference between majin and mazin, so i see a story in this as majin wanting to keep his purpose of ensuring the will of infinite fun, while mazin it trying to find a way out of his intended purpose, maybe becoming self aware.

Sonic.exe V2, where he is more based upon the intended meaning of the Secret Sound Test Easter Egg in the original Japanese Sonic CD Easter egg; a fun easter egg with a message from the Director behind the game, Masato Nishimura, the "Majin/Mazin" of the "Fun is Infinite" Message.
"Mazin" with the "Z" is based upon how he appears in Hotline 024, where he is more based upon the accidental outcome when, due to mistranslation of the Japanese Text by fan-translators, the change in the music from the fun Japanese Boss Music to the Creepy American Boss Music, and a lack of the context that "Majin/Mazin" was a childhood nickname of Masato Nishimura from misreading the "Sato" half of his name (kind of like how in JJBA Part 4: DIamond is Unbreakable, those bullies in the First Episode of the Anime Adaptation called Josuke Higashikata "JoJo"), it came out appearing more creepy, where the nickname of Masato Nishimura, "Majin", was mistaken for the Japanese word for the devil.
So it's a case of the two Ma(j/z)ins kind of represent the two interpretations of the Sonic CD Easter Egg. The original intended meaning of the Easter Egg and the accidental interpretation from the many issues surrounding interpreting what it meant (the Music Change, the Mistranslation, and the lack of context surrounding how it was supposed to be interpreted).
