- On today’s episode of Homeworthy, we’re taking you inside interior designer Beth Diana Smith’s maximalist New Jersey home. Describing her approach to design as a spiritual journey, Beth has gut-renovated her home into an eclectic and inspiring oasis.The creative freedom Beth found in design was a breath of fresh air after spending fifteen years as an accountant - which is certainly reflected throughout her home. A complete renovation in 2020 laid the perfect foundation for Beth to introduce beautifully saturated color into the space. Naturally gravitating to sculptural decor, Beth has sprinkled funky, artful furniture to bring an intoxicating happiness into each room. A fusion of affordable finds, DIY installations and custom furnishings has allowed Beth to create a home that is the truest extension of herself. Enjoy!

@Amandine Manddyna Kimberly Newberry is simply saying thank you for setting an example for people of color and showcasing her beautiful home. There are not many of "us" on Homeworthy. How is this an example of low self-esteem? By the look of your name, you may also be a person of color. We need to be lifting each other up, instead of putting each other down, even in small ways, unless it's constructive criticism (which is what I'm giving you) looks like you need to check your self-esteem from "down there".

Yes, agree! I’m loving the ‘maximalist’ idea and LOVE what she’s done with her home. For me, it’s books and artifacts/knickknacks. I live with my books. :-)
E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G is so purposeful and pleasing, sculptural, soft, textured, every vignette, every pattern, every color!! THE ART, the placement, the friggin TILE in the powder room!! I squealed with glee when I saw she did a jewel box powder room. This home is the designer. I would love to see all her work any time and have her speak on it. the finesse is there, too. WOW.

BREATHTAKING!!!! When Beth opened the bathroom door, I was through! She thought of everything. The art, the tea kettle collection, the colors....I need Beth to fix my house!
Her home is absolutely beautiful. Every room,every wall, every piece of art...I love it all. An entire work of art.
The art in her home is amazing. Also, because I love teacups, she immediately drew me in with the cups and the pots. Love her style. It's incredibly personal and soul-felt.
Yesz she has encouraged me to go back and get a few cups and saucers from a relative that offered them to me yesterday. My grandbaby & I can have tea parties as we chat about her bright future❤

As a minimalist I always seem to love maximalist home tours. Her bedroom is gorgeous.
Greatly appreciate Beth sharing her mindset and priorities at the time of purchasing her home (eg: the future responsibility of taking care of her mother) and love how truly different her place looks and feels from the sea of home tours, evident by all her time, energy and focus on each & every decision she made.

There's been a trend in the UK for grey (so boring) and it's so refreshing to see someone who doesn't follow fashion fads but had her home exactly the way she wants it. Simply stunning. I was just about to write how nice it is that the householder is happy where they are and aren't planning to move - when Beth said she was thinking about moving! Such a terrible shame. With the exception of having some garden space (which I'm guessing she doesn't currently have), what's there to move for (don't do it, Beth!!!)? I'd be happy in this apartment for the rest of my days: literally wouldn't change a thing.

Finally: a woman after my own heart. This may be the first Homeworthy I've seen where most if not all of the art is figurative/portrait. If I want to see a landscape, I'll look out the window. So I loved Beth's art tour and the stories behind the acquisitions. There's nothing like these pieces to bring a room/home to life. Also, Beth's combo of creative with business/accounting expertise is a powerful one for a design professional, rare in a world that usually separates the two.
I also love Sheila Bridges’ Harlem Toile. I have a pair of slippers in her Yellow Harlem Toile. Sheila was the first Black interior designer I became aware of when she was on HGTV, when HGTV was still really fun to watch. Her and Candace Olson were my faves back in the day.
I heard of Sheila Bridges from Traditional Home, and she was featured quite a bit. Her style is simply outstanding.
Beth Diana Smith has a lovely home. IT is beautiful- all the colors meld well together and it does not look crowded for a maximalist home.

I love the essence of her home. It reminds me of a home as children with the soft lighting, all the pictures, and the decor in in close proximity, reminds me of home and family. I grew up in Cleveland, Oh where the homes were smaller and my mom had a lot of decor but it made us feel warm and safe. This is definitely home❤❤❤

I had an embroidered pillow that my great grandmother made. It was falling apart so I salvaged what I could and put it in a frame in my dining room. It is one of my favorite pieces of art on my wall ❤.

When I was a kid, my mother brought home everything she could find with the idea that she was going to use it...needless to say she turned into what I called Mrs. Fred Sandford from "Sanford & Son". Our house was always full of what I consider to be junk. When I became an adult, I loved the idea of space and with no conscious effort I became a minimalist. When this video popped up, I decided to see if it would trigger me...and it did! The more I watched the more anxiety I felt I although must say the coziness of being surrounded by things in the bedroom did appeal to me for some reason. Although I will stick to my minimalist lifestyle I do appreciate and actually envy those who can live a maximalist lifestyle like this woman does in her beautiful home.
