Why first year students should live at res & not private accommodation

    It’s also for personal growth I guess. I had to break out of my comfort zone coz I’m quite introverted. First semester I didn’t share the room. Second semester I had to share with 3 other guys. So you can imagine my discomfort. I had to break through that and learn to talk. The convenience was that there was a study area at our res with WiFi. So if you don’t want to go to the library on campus, you know you are sorted (provided that that res has that facility).

    Res because all the resources are available, it is safe and you are likely to perform better.

    Thank you for this, peace of mind for me, I thought res would be a better option for my daughter first year for 2023 as firstly the varsity is in a different province and thought better for her to experience and make friends and if she does not enjoy at least she can find a friend to share private accommodation later.

    What if nsfas does not pat the whole amount. And you're expected to pay the remainder of which you're not able?what's the way out

      @@sethucasewell7286 in that case you will need to find alternative accommodation, maybe private accommodation that will be covered by NSFAS - this might be a commune.

      Hey Annan, when you apply to study, there’s a part that asks you if you want to apply for campus housing, you will say yes

      @@Reholile hey the thing is, I'm doing applications for grade 12 students, so one of them applied on their own and skipped the part for residence and the application is already submitted. But still, I can not find an option to apply for it on the student portal

      Hey, please find your university’s Student housing office and ask to apply for res on campus (if applications are still open). If applications are closed, you’ll have to stay off campus

      Heya, depends on the university and which res you applied to. UP does have residences where first years have single rooms

    So Ree does me eating at res " thee not cooking for myself situation" will affect my Nsfas pocket money like will they deduct it? Cause is my first time going to uni this year 😣😣😣

      Yes, if you stay at a catering res, you will get less pocket money from NSFAS compared to someone who stays at a self catering residence (where they have to cook for themselves)
