Agreed, it should have been street fighter V after 3 we saw so many progressions of the characters that it makes sense. Let’s hope that 6 will be after 3rd strike.
I swore I was the only one concerned with this lol. All this controversy over the art design and logo...and all I really care about is where it sits in the damn timeline. I’ve been on the edge of my seat for almost 20 years waiting to see what decision Ryu made on weather to let Oro train him or not. But we keep getting sequels that just rehash plotlines about Shadoloo and Bision because fans can’t seem to let go of SFII. They’ve been treating SFIII like they treated DMC2 and kept cramming more and more characters and stories in between games and making it more chronologically confusing. Like is SFIII even considered the “Third World Warrior Tournament” anymore since SFIV and V are set before it and are labled as “tournaments”? They’ve been avoiding SFIII so much I swear the official synopsis for VI will read *set after the climactic conclusion of SFV but approximately 36 minutes before the events of SFIII....*
I for one, who was there when the original games came out, had no idea that there was a convoluted storyline beyond the SFII anime and the american cartoon. Fascinating
Same, for me it was, Sagat got defeat by Ryu, that start having challengers until Sagat tries again.. but before the fight starts, Bison defeat Sagat and fights Ryu
Everything about the Street Fighter 2 movie should remain canon with all the other Street Fighters answering questions that we have. Wouldn’t it be cool if they made a 3rd Strike movie with amazing animation and voice acting? That’d be DOPE.
It's amazing how much of a badass Dan's father Go was to take out Sagat's eye before Ryu put the scar on Sagat's chest. Unfortunately he paid the price. So for those who want a summary if I got it right, SF1, Alpha 2 (Alpha 3 as well but weird), SFII, SFIV, SFV, SFIII, and VI.
It always boggled my mind how little people liked to debate the ending to SF2. People believed for a long time that Guile won, and when I suggested that Chun-Li won and asked why it was Guile, they were like, “The general consensus is that Guile won”, and they stuck with this stance and dug their heels in even when I offered evidence as to why Chun-Li made more sense. Here is my argument. For Guile to have won, he would have had to go back to his wife and daughter and give up on revenge against Bison, only to come back in SF4, still consumed with vengeance, and for all we know without his wife and daughter by his side. What?! That makes no sense to me at all! On the other hand, Chun-Li’s SSF2T ending can go two ways, with her going back to being a regular woman or staying with Interpol. She clearly is still part of Interpol in SF4, and since her ending could go that way in the previous game, that makes to most sense to me. Of course, Capcom has since provided an answer to the outcome of SF2, but until they had, I remained convinced that Chun-Li likely won, and that the concept of Guile’s winning made no sense given how the story went from there.
The street fighter story now kinda like those marvel movie story plot to add some story plot to dicuss. Ask any old school simple sf player. Good guy ryu, ken, bad guy m bison. That for the old school fighting video games players. But, for the modern video games player they are exposed to many platforms of games such as rpg and others. The best part most of these games are accessible by phone app. That why I personally feel should capcom add one story timeline to it. Just like what snk add storyline to their kof games to make story, drama or movie feel and the best part the players themselves while they are playing a character in story mode they gets to understand the characters that they are playing more and maybe will keep on playing the game.
@@TrollAppears2nd Unfortunately that's not the case 😕 Ryu took a cheap shot because it showed his moment of weakness to the Tatsunohado and his inability to properly control such power. It also gave birth to evil Ryu and Kage; the embodiment of the Tatsunohado itself; and the ONLY time they're considered cannon to the series; besides Ryu's brainwashing at some point during the Alpha series.
I got in this argument with someone about 15 years ago about this. Originally, Ryu beat Sagat fair and square. What happened in the game was basically what you see in the SF2 anime movie. There was no such thing as Satsui no Hadou, etc. But Capcom retconned it. Maybe they retconned the retcon out, but at least for a while there the cheap shot was canon. IMO, retcons have made SF's already-thin storyline a lot stupider.
Yeah, the story did get changed. Sagat thought he had the fight won, and for all intents and purposes, he should have. When Sagat went to help Ryu up, that’s when the shoryuken came, courtesy of the satsui no hadou.
I learned a LONG time ago not to worry about timelines in a fighting game. If Street Fighter 6 had zero story and just an arcade ladder with no endings and online play, I would be happy with that. I don't watch endings to fighting games anymore. Be honest, not having them may disappoint some but it would never be the difference between buying and playing a fighting game or skipping it.
Perhaps, but the street fighter story is just nuts considering it's all messed up. Now look at tekken. The story holds up and makes a lot of sense as you step up the order chronologically and the naming is also linear for all the installments in the Franchise. Even though i watched this video im still left confused by the sf storyline.
@@billassburger6854 I mean, there are plenty of things that sf5 didnt do (and shouldve done) that sf4 did- but endings ain't one of them because characters are bad in general in SF4 and SF5. Having Hugo be a literal man-baby in SF4 makes me care so absolutely, infinitely little about what happens to the dumbfuck. Mortal Kombat made me care about the endings for it's characters all the way until X and even then, I quit giving a fuck because NetherRealm obviously cared more about the story mode than arcade ladder endings. Moral of the story: Endings are interesting the second you stop making your characters one note! But Capcom want's their characters to be half-note at best. Even Akuma has turned into Ganondorf, being evil for the sake of it, rather than being a mysterious figure who wishes to push Ryu to his full potential- regardless of the cost.
hopefully this gets updated after SF6 gets released and this time include: • Final Fight (all the games) • Saturday Night Slam Masters (as some of the characters are connected with Street Fighter characters like Titanic Tim is Birdies friend, Haggar as it says hes a former mayor, Gunloc related to Guile, Jumbo Flapjack lost to Balrog, etc) • Captain Commando (set in the distant future of Metro City) to fit all
Before I watch this, I'm pretty sure it goes either: SF, SFA, SF2, SF4, SF3, SF5. or SF, SFA, SF2, SF4, SF5, SF3. One indication about SF3 is that Ryu is now using Gouken's fully developed "power of nothingness" moves, like Shin Shoryuken and Denjin Hoduken. Ryu's "Metsu" versions were from his struggles with Satsui no Hado. The Shoryuken, that scared Sagat was Metsu. Ryu's my favourite character, but he's also the worst loser. Anytime he's defeated, he gives into the Satsui no Hado and starts destroying everything.
My only question is what about the FINAL epic battle between Ryu and Akuma during Street Fighter 4? Supposedly that was to be the FINAL battle and the end of Akuma once and for all (Storyline-wise) If that battle occurred Akuma wouldn't have foughten Orion during Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. Also didn't Gen fight Akuma during Street Fighter 4? Anyways this seems like the most COHESIVE version of the Street Fighter time-line, so GREAT job! 👍 There was a LOT to cover and you could've spent ALL day on one video with JUST Ryu alone. 😳 I look forward to future content! 🤩
It's a great idea for a video, but i wish you did more pauses. it's a bit hard to follow since it's fast and jumping from one character to another. Would be interesting if it could be organized better, maybe with dark hadou/shadaloo sagas told separately. Showing the timeline with the logos as in the thumb could be nice. The canon is so messy, isn't it? Good video anyway.
I think the fundamental problem is the same one as Mortal Kombat. In the beginning it was wild and free and loopy, but as soon as it hit it big it started taking itself *SO. DAMN. SERIOUSLY.* I mean, just look at some of the other fighting games that were around in the 90's: Fighter's History, Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Time Killers, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers. There was a big fighting spectacle of some kind, a variety of fighters who had their own reasons for competing, a rivalry or two, a primary villain/troublemaker behind it all... and _that was it._ And *that was enough!* Really! There was no need to give a big explanation of what a HAHHH-DOOOOO-KIINNNN is, or explain and re-explain and re-re-explain Sagat's scar (or to even give him one in the first place), or to build a ludicrously convoluted canon around Satsu No Hado, or to turn Rose from a fun Jojo's Bizarre Adventure knockoff to a supremely vital lynchpin who somehow never succeeds at anything, or to gin up some cryptic "city leader" background for Yun and Yang, or to make Charlie/Nash/Charlie Nash/Shadow/Cyborg Charlie Nash Shadow *anything* but a faceless tragic figure. And there _definitely_ wasn't any need to repeatedly jump back in the past so that we'd know _for absolute sure this time_ why Ryu's headband is that color. And never mind even trying to explain how such a rich cast of characters just somehow _vanishes_ before SF2 or SF3. It just... it just seems like _such_ a waste of energy. If you think you messed up the franchise, own up to it, pull the plug, and start fresh. What do you think "spiritual sequels" are?
This didn't age well given that Capcom officially said SF5 was before, in-between and after SF3. SF6 is like 3 or 5 years after SF3. There is a lot more detail to the storyline but you did a good job at summarizing what was available until recently. Also i wouldn't say the chronology of SF was in the dark as Capcom for decades now has been open about the SF timeline just that most people don't really care about the story behind a fighting game.
Like some in these comments, I too am curious what #SF6 holds. We saw Ryu in the teaser now older than he’s ever been portrayed. I’m guessing Ken’s kid will be old enough to be in the game and Sean and Sakura will return as well. I can also see this girl that Chun Li rescues at the end of #SF3 might return as a fighter.
well, I sorted the chronology by the Power Level of the Final Bosses: SF1 = The World's Best Master of Muay Thai, Sagat SF2 = Psycho Powered Dictator, Vega/M.Bison SF4 = Sentient Psycho-powered Puppet, Seth SF5 = .. well Bison again ... or Necalli as One of the Originator Race of the Satsui No Hado SF3 = God, Gill with the Lore of Luke tying him to Guile and Guile also been revealed for SF6 I have the sad assumption that SF6 is just another SF3 Prequel, with also stealing Sean's moves ._.
@@TheFighterVerse thanks^^ I had the idea of Sean vs Mel Masters as Poster Rivalry for SF6.. which in my Opinion would be a better passing the torch moment for Street Fighter.. but well, Jamie is Good!
Ultimately, SFVI are now taking place after third strike. That installment is taking place in the world of final fight. Featuring Luke, Ryu, Chun-Li, Jamie, and Guile. :)
Regarding charlie's appearance in SFA3 being noncoherent A2 replaces A1 and A3 replaces A2. Because even though A2 has endings and story, not all of them actually happen. They actually conflict with each other. Think of some of the endings in A2 as alternate universes *if* they won the tournament, but not all of them did. I think A3 though is MOSTLY devoid of this in the main story but it still does the alternate universe what ifs for endings. edit: LOOOL william guile! shout out to the movie with raul julia and vann damme. I don't think that's his official name. Great video, I wish i chose this to watch first during my break from work rather than the end, I had to watch in segments cuz i ran out of time 😭
I know as far as the beggining timeline it goes SF , SFA , SFA2 , SFA3 and then SF2 But I always thought SFA3 took place like days - weeks after SF2 and SFA2 was the most recent game that took place before SF2 due to the fact that all the SF2 characters are back around with the Alpha characters who did not participate in the World Warriors tournament Then again though based on this video , it does make sense to say SFA is actually replaced by SFA2 which then replaced SFA3 .
SFA, SFA2 and SFA3 are all the same chapter. In Japan, Street Fighter Alpha is called Street Fighter Zero so if you list the entire Street Fighter game by entry number, Street Fighter Alpha is part 0. The first SFA game doesn't had a story so anything that happen in that game is non-canon, this is why the game had the subtitle: Warrior's Dreams. It's just a dream match title. Even though the entry number are in order, the game story doesn't take place in that order as SF0 took place between SF1 and SF2 whereas SF4 took place between SF2 and SF3. Street Fighter 0 = Known as Street Fighter Alpha: SFA1, SFA2, SFA2 Gold, SFA3, SFA3 Upper, Hyper SFA, and SFA3 Max Street Fighter 1 = the very first Street Fighter, it had no update like the rest. Street Fighter 2 = Known as Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super, Super Turbo, Hyper SF2, Ultra SF2 Street Fighter 3 = Known as Street Fighter III: New Generation, 2nd Impact - Giant Attack, Third Strike - Fight For the Future Street Fighter 4 = Known as Street Fighter IV: SFIV, Champion Edition, Super SFIV, Arcade Edition, Ultra SFIV Street Fighter 5 = Known as Street Fighter V: Original and Champion Edition Street Fighter 6 = Known as Street Fighter 6: the first SF entry with no Roman Numeral, it likely will had many updates.
Street fighter 6 is going to have accessibility features for the visually impaired! I can finally play fighting games again! I'm going to give chunley's thunder thighs a workout.. that came out wrong..
I am very high and needed something to watch while I ate my frozen burritos. I've been playing the 30th Anniversary Collection a lot lately and decided to just click this on recommended. Amazing video. I love lore.
It's possible that his debut in Super II Turbo was a retcon. Although others suggest that Gouki attacked Vega with his Shun Goku Satsu after the latter lost the finals.
Wait how are we left in the dark? SF 5 even puts it out for us. 🤔 And a few more times in the past. It's not perfect but this was still a good run down on the lore
I love street fighter series and follow it but tbh the story is all over the place if alpha comes before street fighter 2 then sagot shouldn’t have his scar on his chest a lot of stuff don’t add up like how sf456 is before 3rd strike makes no sense they are even older in the new games shit is all over the place literally
@@TheFighterVerse it turns what was an honest victory into a cheap shot and turns Ryu into a dishonorable fighter and hollows his victory. It also makes Sagat’s obsession with Ryu illogical, as again, the only reason Ryu won was because of a “sucker punch” essentially. I remember reading the manual for Street Fighter II back in the 90’s and it made it seem like Ryu surpassed Sagat in strength. Like he was a mysterious warrior that showed up with a weird fighting style and technique that Sagat didn’t have a counter for(which is why he developed his Tiger Uppercut). Them changing it and saying Ryu was getting his ass beat and then sucker punched Sagat while Sagat was helping him up ruins this.
I dont know but I've always thought the shadowloo plot to collect fighters was dumb. I mean it's like woah what military are they going to beat with martial artists? Lol . SF3 storyline was better.
I hope not. Their writing better be WAY better after Street Fighter 5 if they're even going to ATTEMPT that. They better spend YEARS on this project, in terms of story.
Alpha 1 basically got replaced by Alpha 2, so lorewise they're the same game but alpha 2 got more fleshed out. Capcom kinda put it out in an early format, they did this with SF3 so that Sf3 2nd impact and it's epilogue a year later, 3rd strike are canon.
Well we need to figure out when the games take place to figure that out and how much time has passed. Chun Li for example by Street Fighter 5 should be in her early to mid 30's (so somewhere between 30-34). Since after SFV comes the Street Fighter 3 series and 6 is taking place after 3rd Strike, and just looking at her new look. Chun is definitely in 40's at this point and might be pushing 50.
It’s like what if one day you got home and your mom asked you what you want for your birthday the one thing you want is a certain game she doesn’t get it so you carry that and you are in the arcade one day and see a fighting game called street fighter you are a lil older now so you’ve been doing what you got to to have your own you play it and fall in love you continue to play this game over and over playing each sequel that comes out eventually getting your own home system to play on you continue life eventually having a kid of your own they ask you what is this you break it down about how you and your brother would go to the arcade play this game put in countless quarters for the love of just playing this game with his brother And I am the child I love street fighter
Akuma maybe ryu's father as he is also gouken's brother. Charlie was eventually genetically modified by bison to become blanks. Biggest questions answered😎
Street fighter just needs a hard reboot 💯 this will always be the fighting game to last the test of time but what they can do with the story to draw new people in they just need to do something to start a new timeline like how mortal kombat did. 💯

SFI, Zero 2, Zero 3, SFII series, SFIV series, SFV, SFIII 2nd Impact, 3rd Strike, 6

i cant wait either !! yeii !! thank you for watching
Like some in these comments, I too am curious what #SF6 holds. We saw Ryu in the teaser now older than he’s ever been portrayed. I’m guessing Ken’s kid will be old enough to be in the game and Sean and Sakura will return as well. I can also see this girl that Chun Li rescues at the end of #SF3 might return as a fighter.
me too the comments are great !! thank you for watching
Street Fighter is my favorite fighting game series!
i think is okay... jk lol We love street fighter !! thank you for watching
Juri finished Seth after Bison kicked his android-clone ass. And also Bison defeated Juri and take her feng shui "eye"
It's insane...💯✔️
Thanks for watching
So it goes from Street Fighter Alpha 3 to 5 then to 3rd strike? I’m completely lost
I do not even know this but sf6 might not be the final instalment and sf7 might even be the last one
well, I sorted the chronology by the Power Level of the Final Bosses:
SF1 = The World's Best Master of Muay Thai, Sagat
SF2 = Psycho Powered Dictator, Vega/M.Bison
SF4 = Sentient Psycho-powered Puppet, Seth
SF5 = .. well Bison again ... or Necalli as One of the Originator Race of the Satsui No Hado
SF3 = God, Gill
with the Lore of Luke tying him to Guile and Guile also been revealed for SF6 I have the sad assumption that SF6 is just another SF3 Prequel, with also stealing Sean's moves ._.
amazing way to put it
@@TheFighterVerse thanks^^ I had the idea of Sean vs Mel Masters as Poster Rivalry for SF6.. which in my Opinion would be a better passing the torch moment for Street Fighter.. but well, Jamie is Good!
Sounds like Violence Ken should have been in the Alpha Games.
Violent ken skin is available in third strike might not be the same but seeing him that way is fucking cool

Do you have any plans to do a complete history/story of street fighter? A nice long documentary
I discovered this video after realizing, I know all of Street Fighter's plot from one to five, except the plot of three.
Ultimately, SFVI are now taking place after third strike. That installment is taking place in the world of final fight. Featuring Luke, Ryu, Chun-Li, Jamie, and Guile. :)
thank you for watching
It goes like this: 1, Alpha, 2, 4, 5, 3, and 6.
In the SF Ryu novel illustrated by Murata Ryu and Akuma had their last fight and Ryu won.
Great video, I wish i chose this to watch first during my break from work rather than the end, I had to watch in segments cuz i ran out of time 😭
New character Joel Perez from Tokyo street fighter 6
So street fighter 6 is after Street Fighter 3 right? Great video also 2nd Impact > 3rd Strike lol.
So far it points that way
2nd impact is a retcon for new generation, while 3rd strike is sequel for new generation and 2nd impact
I know as far as the beggining timeline it goes SF , SFA , SFA2 , SFA3 and then SF2
But I always thought SFA3 took place like days - weeks after SF2 and SFA2 was the most recent game that took place before SF2 due to the fact that all the SF2 characters are back around with the Alpha characters who did not participate in the World Warriors tournament
Then again though based on this video , it does make sense to say SFA is actually replaced by SFA2 which then replaced SFA3 .
street fighter, am I right ?
@@TheFighterVerse lol lol
Street Fighter 0 = Known as Street Fighter Alpha: SFA1, SFA2, SFA2 Gold, SFA3, SFA3 Upper, Hyper SFA, and SFA3 Max
Street Fighter 1 = the very first Street Fighter, it had no update like the rest.
Street Fighter 2 = Known as Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super, Super Turbo, Hyper SF2, Ultra SF2
Street Fighter 3 = Known as Street Fighter III: New Generation, 2nd Impact - Giant Attack, Third Strike - Fight For the Future
Street Fighter 4 = Known as Street Fighter IV: SFIV, Champion Edition, Super SFIV, Arcade Edition, Ultra SFIV
Street Fighter 5 = Known as Street Fighter V: Original and Champion Edition
Street Fighter 6 = Known as Street Fighter 6: the first SF entry with no Roman Numeral, it likely will had many updates.
Street fighter 6 is going to have accessibility features for the visually impaired! I can finally play fighting games again! I'm going to give chunley's thunder thighs a workout.. that came out wrong..
So Alex is the friend of Luke’s father. Or the friend of Luke maybe
okay so what year di these take place in?
I'm even more confused than before 🤣 I'll just keep fighting without a care as to what the storyline is
lol thank you for watching
7 MONTHS LATE SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?!!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?
Doing God's work streamlining the games.
Amen
add the final fight slamastersand now rival schools
Besides not being able to hit someone on the ground in a STREET FIGHT, the time line is my biggest gripe.
its kind of a pain. thank you for watching
You’ve left out the storyline of the one who is truly behind all of this…
Rainbow Mika
🤣🤣
Nice analysis i really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you soo much
@@TheFighterVerse your welcome
I am very high and needed something to watch while I ate my frozen burritos. I've been playing the 30th Anniversary Collection a lot lately and decided to just click this on recommended. Amazing video. I love lore.
I don't think the Akuma part of sf2 is suppose to be cannon.
If you think the SF timeline is whacked, you probably never played Samurai Showdown.
It's so stupid that they don't have a natural flowing story. Even if you play the games 1 by 1 you still won't understand anything.
Or needs to make a return. I believe he's a crucial character to make Ryu as strong as Akuma without the use of the dark hado
thank you for watching
Story is all over the place
Its something
Joel vs chun li
Where does Street Fighter 2010 fit?
1:36 I’ve always hated this retcon with a passion.
how so ?
Lol . SF3 storyline was better.
thank you for watching
New Challengers…?

sf6 is being set up as reboot all the way back to aplha one
I hope not. Their writing better be WAY better after Street Fighter 5 if they're even going to ATTEMPT that. They better spend YEARS on this project, in terms of story.
Ryu looks older, so I don’t think so
Umm oro whooped akumas ass and told him get stronger cause he didn’t even need to use his other hand.
Never was a fan of SF , but I can honestly say when I was young I played 1-3 and 5 was ok but story line sucks overall
thank you for watching
So is alpha 1 canon ?
Alpha 1 basically got replaced by Alpha 2, so lorewise they're the same game but alpha 2 got more fleshed out. Capcom kinda put it out in an early format, they did this with SF3 so that Sf3 2nd impact and it's epilogue a year later, 3rd strike are canon.
@@ShockyD oh ok
I am so confused on this. It's a great game just the timeline is confusing
street fighter timeline is like mixing water with bacon you are going to get laundry detergent but you cant get airplane fuel. thank you for watching
It originally did not had a story was the issue.
This is American canon, what about japanese?
Already preordered the ultimate edition and will buy every DLC that capcom throw at my screen 🔥🔥🔥
Why do people never talk about sf1?
Not many people like the first one sadly
It was just a different era. There were music-themed games prior to Dance Dance Revolution, but that was where the genre really took off.
I just wanna know their ages
best i can do is the timeline (rick) 🤣 thank you for watching
Well we need to figure out when the games take place to figure that out and how much time has passed. Chun Li for example by Street Fighter 5 should be in her early to mid 30's (so somewhere between 30-34). Since after SFV comes the Street Fighter 3 series and 6 is taking place after 3rd Strike, and just looking at her new look. Chun is definitely in 40's at this point and might be pushing 50.
It’s like what if one day you got home and your mom asked you what you want for your birthday the one thing you want is a certain game she doesn’t get it so you carry that and you are in the arcade one day and see a fighting game called street fighter you are a lil older now so you’ve been doing what you got to to have your own you play it and fall in love you continue to play this game over and over playing each sequel that comes out eventually getting your own home system to play on you continue life eventually having a kid of your own they ask you what is this you break it down about how you and your brother would go to the arcade play this game put in countless quarters for the love of just playing this game with his brother
And I am the child I love street fighter
Akuma maybe ryu's father as he is also gouken's brother. Charlie was eventually genetically modified by bison to become blanks. Biggest questions answered😎
thank you for watching
i watched both versions when did he "help him from the floor"
Street fighter just needs a hard reboot 💯 this will always be the fighting game to last the test of time but what they can do with the story to draw new people in they just need to do something to start a new timeline like how mortal kombat did. 💯
thank you for watching
Huh what timeline will x men vs street fighter is in
SF4 and SF5 stories are nonsense
Thank you for watching
No SF3 SFA SFSUPER is nonsense
Street Fighter 1 sucks feet!
thank you for watching, disagree but thanks for your opinion.
How convoluted. Just reboot the story and tell it from the beginning a la Mortal Kombat. Then we’ll finally have a good version of Street Fighter 1.
