As a messi fan, iniesta should’ve won 2010 one. Midfielders just get fucked in ballon d’or. But you are mistaken with his stats. In 2023, messi has 55 goal contributions in all competitions which is just 6 shy of haaland. He didn’t get the ballon d’or just for winning the wc. He got it for his spectacular performance. I think it is about current influence in the world too... like... he generates so much money for everybody, so much more than haaland ever will... people love messi, he is football... the mayority that loves football are happy if messi wins
Most of the candidates here were unlucky though. They were playing great in a wrong time : 2010 : Wesley Sneijder won the treble, but lost to Spain in WC Finals, this probably swayed second and first votes more to Xavi and Iniesta who ranked 2nd and 3rd. Sneijder might rank higher if Netherlands win the WC, and even probably beat Messi. Iniesta and Xavi of course, have no chance of winning it due to being second to Messi in Barca. 2013 : Ribery was actually close with CR7 and Messi. You could look it up that the top three had like 24-27% votes. Messi was at his peak as well this season. 2019 : I dunno why people think VVD was robbed. Those who saw Messi this season wouldn't really think so. Pool had a bad, and as a Spurs fan, i think dodgy UCL final as well. I think personally VVD would admit Messi deserved the award that year. 2021 : Lewa was on his absolute hot form but injuries keep them from advancing close to UCL. I know it looks strange, but Barca was only 1 position below Bayern at that year in UCL. Copa America basically sealed it for Messi. Didn't help Poland was shit at Euros as well. I think Bundesliga's perception as a one-team league really hurt his chance as well. 2023 : Even if you discount his penalties, Messi's performance in WC Knockouts are just damn ridiculous and consistent. I think it's equal to 2002 R9 in that regard. We know wins in big matches sway vote strongly. Haaland actually ghosted quite a lot in semis and finals. It really gives a vibe that their trebleswere won not because of him, but rather other players (Silva, Gundogan, Rodri). I think we couldn't say the same as Messi with Argentina. Haaland would be an absolute winner in other seasons, but this one wasn't his year, unfortunately.
2013 was when Ribery was winning by the time the votes originally closed but then the organizers extended the voting deadline and Ronaldo scored 4 in the Euro qualifier and swung enough voters his way
For me, Maradona WC 1986 > Messi WC 2022, but then, one was 25 and the other 35. Hard to see how Messi could have improved his 2022 WC performance, at his age (maybe doing better against Saudi Arabia).
@@za9883 i doubt scoring 4 in qualifiers will swing the votes much. People just need to admit that he was unlucky rather than scrapping barrel bottoms like this.
@@yoshuareynaldo2295 Were you following football back then? This isn't some conspiracy, it was widely acknowledged. Not saying Ronaldo didn't deserve it for an insane season but Ribery did seem to have it in the bag before a kinda random deadline extension. Portugal had to win a play-off to make the World Cup and it was that high-stakes a game is why people were so swayed by it, but it absolutely happened. You can look at articles from the time even in AP, The Guardian, The Independent, etc: "Advantage Cristiano Ronaldo as Fifa extends Ballon d'Or deadline: Portugal striker's chances enhanced by play-off hat-trick Bayern Munich's Franck Ribéry had been bookies' favourite Wed 20 Nov 2013 13.38 GMT Fifa has extended the Ballon d'Or voting deadline, improving Cristiano Ronaldo's chances of winning after his superb performance for Portugal in the World Cup play-off success. Fifa says the contest is now open until 29 November because too many voters failed to meet last Friday's original deadline. Ronaldo, the 2008 award winner, scored all three goals in Portugal's 3-2 victory in Sweden on Tuesday to advance to the World Cup. Lionel Messi has won for the past four years, and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribéry, who played for France in their dramatic play-off success against Ukraine, was the bookies' favourite when the nominations were announced. Fifa's original voting window of 28 October to 15 November ended hours after the first legs of the European play-offs." or "Franck Ribery was widely expected to win the 2013 Ballon d’Or, only to lose out to Cristiano Ronaldo... It remains the most controversial Ballon d’Or in the history of the award. At the time, Ribery was widely tipped to win the award after he led Bayern Munich to a historic treble, winning the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal. He provided the assist to Arjen Robben, who scored the match-winning goal in the Champions League final as well as scoring 34 goals in all competitions. The winger won the UEFA Best Player in Europe award, before scoring in the Super Cup as Bayern Munich beat Chelsea. The deadline for the vote in 2013 was originally November 15, but it was extended for the first time in the competition’s history by two weeks... UEFA president Michel Platini joked that FIFA did it “to please” Ronaldo. In this period, Ronaldo scored a spectacular hat-trick which secured qualification for Portugal to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. “It was unfair," Ribery told La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this year. "They extended the time for votes, and something strange happened. I felt that it was a political choice.""
@@za9883 I wasn't following that to be fair, but it's still really bunk imo. 'Tipped to win' is actually pretty subjective and it could be just media opinion since the votes was close in the end. Playoffs aren't 'high-stakes' game and Ribery finished 3rd at that time. It would be stronger if he finished in 2nd, but Messi ended up having that spot. If anyone was robbed, technically it was actually Messi.

Great job❤
Season 8
Why is it taking so long 😩 😫
My Ronaldo pfp might make this look like a biased opinion but im genuinely happy that Messi won it
But fifa really needs to be consistent in their decisions... "Messi won world cup" "doesn't matter if his club stats weren't that great compared to haaland who won the treble
So why did Messi won it instead of Iniesta in 2010
Why did griemann lose to modric and Ronaldo?
Guess we'll never know
As a messi fan, iniesta should’ve won 2010 one. Midfielders just get fucked in ballon d’or. But you are mistaken with his stats. In 2023, messi has 55 goal contributions in all competitions which is just 6 shy of haaland. He didn’t get the ballon d’or just for winning the wc. He got it for his spectacular performance. It was reminiscent of maradona.
@@Captain_-cn4mlstill, haaland deserves it more.
treble = wc
more g/a
more awards
more trophies
hardest league
the value of the ballon d'o doesnt exist. change my mind. its a popularity contest. shouldnt have won 2010. 2021. 2023.
@@Darko_BoiI stopped at "treble > wc"
I think it is about current influence in the world too... like... he generates so much money for everybody, so much more than haaland ever will... people love messi, he is football... the mayority that loves football are happy if messi wins
@@Captain_-cn4ml yeah no, that's what i meant... messi had an amazing world cup competition last year, fifa being fifa I guess
Runner up
“We do not speak their names”😂😂😂
On like the other guys he still has a chance.
Chop chop champions league boy we want the 8th season
2020 and 2021
Most of the candidates here were unlucky though. They were playing great in a wrong time :
2010 : Wesley Sneijder won the treble, but lost to Spain in WC Finals, this probably swayed second and first votes more to Xavi and Iniesta who ranked 2nd and 3rd.
You can look at articles from the time even in AP, The Guardian, The Independent, etc:
"Advantage Cristiano Ronaldo as Fifa extends Ballon d'Or deadline: Portugal striker's chances enhanced by play-off hat-trick
Bayern Munich's Franck Ribéry had been bookies' favourite
Wed 20 Nov 2013 13.38 GMT
Fifa has extended the Ballon d'Or voting deadline, improving Cristiano Ronaldo's chances of winning after his superb performance for Portugal in the World Cup play-off success.
Fifa's original voting window of 28 October to 15 November ended hours after the first legs of the European play-offs."
or
"Franck Ribery was widely expected to win the 2013 Ballon d’Or, only to lose out to Cristiano Ronaldo...

I wasn't following that to be fair, but it's still really bunk imo.
It's not runner up
Actually it's robber up

FIFA best player is selected by country coaches and captain from national teams and same fans still complain it's rigged when their favorite player doesn't win.
