Very common scam nowadays. Happened to my daughter selling artwork online. Drained her bank account before she told me what was happening and had no chance to stop it. Scumbags.
Any time I sell something I get a message within hours with this scam. Countless times in the last few years. No cash, no PayPal goods and services; no sale.
I've only once sold something the same day I posted the listing. So I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But after my experience in this video, I'm definitely going to be more careful.
The same exact thing happened to me selling my Epiphone Les Paul and sadly my lack of judgement resulted in me getting scammed out of a $1000 at least I still had my guitar but man it sucked. Thank you for making this video letting people know about these reverb scams.
The FIRST red flag was the reply with flowery but suspiciously non-specific verbiage that could apply to absolutely any guitar on Reverb. The scammer probably sent the exact same reply to MANY, MANY sellers.
even though your channel hasnt blown up yet i just wanna say thanks for sharing this scam as i really hate seeing other fellow guitar players get scammed, and this scam stuff has gotta stop, only us guitar players that understand this stuff will be able to shut it down..
😂 same thing happened to me on Reverb when i listed my Epiphone White Lightening Tommy Thayer Explorer. I wish you would show the scammers name so we can see if it's the same person. It probably is since it's the same story.
The main reason I won't show the scammer's name is because it's very common for scammers will use real people's email addresses and if I were to expose that, that could open me up to possible legal issues that I don't want to get into.
I was recently selling my Kemper Stage, I had someone message me to meet him somewhere in San Mateo CA. He wanted to pay cash, it sounded fishy and I declined. You have to be cautious when selling on Reverb.
😂 I have met buyers off Reverb that contacted me about buying off Reverb and they were real. They just couldn't afford the tax and fees but really wanted the guitar I was selling. The only reason I did meet up with him is because I did some Detective work and research on the person to make sure they were real, and guess what, he was real and had cash. 😊
Cash only if they mention moving , DHL ect just fook em off scammers sometimes it's ill send a friend gggggrrrrrr do my head in, stick with reputable payments methods or pref cash, have way through just block them
The only reason I didn’t is because a lot of time scammers will use the emails of real people who are innocent to the scamming. That could open up possible legal issues that I don’t really want to deal with.
Yeah! Maybe I'm just dumb lol, but I've never heard about it before my experience with this video. It's always good to spread awareness about stuff like this.
I did consider that, however, I did not want to release their identity because a lot of scammers will steal the identity of real people. So me releasing the name of a real person could result in some legal issues I don’t want to dabble in.
That would have made for a much more boring story! But you are correct though. That's probably what everyone should do when they encounter a scammer, but I felt that it would make for a good video to inform people in the guitar community about this scam.
Here’s the first clue it’s a scam… when they say “rest assured”. That’s scammer talk.
"rest assured" is actually "rest in peace assured."
100%

I’m very sorry to hear about that. It’s good to make sure people know who’s out there

You’re probably right
Great video, helps a lot! Happy that it turned out fine for you!!!

Like you said, it's important to spread the word. Also, I really appreciate the "yet" in there. It means a lot.
had this same kind of scam on reverb lol. happens all the time.
It’s great to watch out for! Glad I was able to find out it was a scam haha
The second I heard check, scam.
thanks for sharing your experience and for spreading awareness!
That’s a really weird scam, got to be careful out there! Great job consulting with someone else to be careful
Thanks!

Only way I sell is cash only local pickup only.
That's fair!
The movers picking up the piece of gear scam was tried on me. And failed.
Glad to hear they failed
This is a classic check kiting scam.
Glad I caught it!
the exact same thing happens on Facebook great you cough it
well done video. I hope it preforms well!
I hope so too!

I would out him his name and Email he tried scamming you , I hate scammers no respect for these assholes
The only reason I didn’t is because a lot of time scammers will use the emails of real people who are innocent to the scamming. That could open up possible legal issues that I don’t really want to deal with.
That's a very old scam.

Epiphone scammed you out of your money, there's no Epiphone Custom Shop.
Good thing I bought it used then.
If the point of the video is to warn others why are we protecting the scammers identity? Out them so other sellers know not to deal with them.

very thoughtful of you :)
@@Coleo432
@Coleo432 😂 Then release. The email chain and names and don't dabble in legal terms. You are not going to be sued any how😂
Just block him. End of story.
