do you have any idea when this siren was installed? I would have to guess early 50s. the one in Barberton is probably from the same era and was probably once part of a proposed siren system throughout Akron.
Barberton had their own system. The proposed Akron system was debated in the 1940s during World War II, they did not have anything in the 1950s. These Thunderbolt sirens in Orrville went up in the mid 2000s and were purchased at auction from a municipality in Michigan that upgraded their system. Orrville only had a 612 at Orr Park and the Whelen Vortex prior, along with a Model 5 on the Crown Hill Rd fire station. The Model 7 on the Orrville Water Tower was already dead by that point (that siren itself having replaced an STL-10). These Thunderbolts likely date from the mid to late 1970’s. The EOWS 612 at Orr Park was struck by lightning and replaced with a T-128 around 2008 or 2009. The Crown Hill Rd. Thunderbolt was replaced with a T-128 in 2021 after being nonfunctional for many years, but I am uncertain if the new T-128 is connected to power yet, as it has remained in the same position with no apparent power for the last several years while the Orrville system was impaired.

This is a 4M unit likely from the late 60s-early 70s.
