I definitely relate to wanting to make it by a certain age, and then learning to slow down. For me, writing is a hobby and one I'm content taking my time with and publishing later. but for building a RUclips channel? sheesh. constantly second guessing myself, wondering why I haven't made it yet in the way I want to, feeling older every day. and its not a good mindset to have. we shall get there in time, and honestly, our failures and trials make us better artists.
thailand era!! 🥰💛 i love hearing your romcom updates OMG and i love listening to you talk about the freedom of not worrying about quality bc it really is sooo paralyzing sometimes. i need to start working on a "fun project" again !! nanowrimo is most fun when you're first-drafting and i wish i didn't have to be in revision mode this year 😭 this just made me so excited to work on my next book ahhhh
You have Aphantasia too! That’s so amazing! I’ve been watching your content for so long and love it and now finding that you have what I have, is amazing. It’s weird that I have that same relationship with visual media too! You’re amazing!
Good luck with your ESL job! That’s awesome that you’re in Thailand. I love that you’re working on a romcom for NanoWriMo! I love when people have just for fun projects. I had a few of those in the past and they were fun to work on. I like that you can have projects without worrying about querying or the constraints of traditional publishing. As a screenwriter myself (just wrote my 36th script), TV and film writing are visual mediums, but I think they can inform novel writing and vice versa! The project I’m working on for NanoWriMo is a YA horror novel loosely adapted from an Adult Gothic horror pilot I just finished revising. I love adapting my own work. I adapted my PhD dissertation as well (one-hour supernatural drama into an Adult contemporary fantasy novel). I’m very behind on word count, but like you, trying to have fun!
thank you so much! it's definitely been a freeing experience so far. wow, that's amazing! I'm so glad you agree. best of luck with your nanowrimo writing, it's so unbelievably cool that you're able to adapt your scripts into prose!
Congrats on your word counts. This sounds like a fun be project. I couldn’t imagine the weight of agents and submission on your back with every project. Good luck with the rest of NaNo. Here’s to you winning 🎉
This was so fun to watch!! 🥰 I’m glad you want to take your time with writing and putting less pressure on traditional publishing. I am definitely living vicariously through you in Thailand. I am trying to outline a romantasy and the romance story arc is a WHOLE other beast that I don’t really know how to tackle so I was agreeing with EVERYTHING you said about writing with such a forefront on interpersonal relationships. Romance writers are next level 🥹
Started my nanowrimo journey this month too! Working on a horror-crime-mystery, but i spent all of october prepping for it. I hope i can make it through the challenge though.
Aaaah Lynn! Firstly I hope your teaching job goes so well!! 🎉 I'm really happy for you you're feeling more chill about pursuing publication, I also hit a point this year where the fire kind of dampened to be trad pubbed, and I just wanted to enjoy the process of writing instead of feeling pressured to query etc!
Thank you, teaching is 1000% my dream job and it's been amazing so far!! I think that pressure we put on ourselves can be so detrimental to our creative growth and productivity-I'm glad to be a little looser about it lol. I'm glad you've undergone a similar journey!!
So happy to hear its been amazing so far! And I agree, I think when we're aiming for traditional publishing the only thing we can really control is our own writing and putting alot of pressure on ourselves to improve can often hinder the natural process too!! ❤
i’ve stepped away from my main fantasy story im writing right now to also do a contemporary romance for NaNoWriMo this year LOL. it just seems way easier to write all the way through.
Congrats on your move! Wow! Where did you go backpacking? What are some of your favorites out of the romcoms you binged? I also switched my story from third person to first and it helped me so much!
It'd be fascinating to get an informational video about your ESL teaching job!
I definitely plan to do one at the end of my term :)
Yes please!! I wanna do the same so am very very interested

I'm a bit ahead on my nano and it's my first time so I'm very proud of myself
yay congratulations!!
Congrats on your move! Wow!
Where did you go backpacking?
What are some of your favorites out of the romcoms you binged?
I also switched my story from third person to first and it helped me so much!
Bali -> North Vietnam -> Central Vietnam -> South Vietnam -> Cambodia!
I loved Warm Bodies and Set It Up!
@@lynndjung Nice! That sounds amazing! Do you have a different channel where you vlogged any of it?
Yes, I made daily vlogs on my TikTok, but I'm quite behind on them!
Good luck... imagine you will be a great teacher☺️✌️
tysm!
I have the opposite problem: I never write a MacGuffin, and then the characters sort of don't feel motivated.
It can be hard to create solid motivation without a tangible, physical goal!! I feel you!!
Congrats on the move! Bed bugs are gross and annoying.
