If only the manufacturers made the reinforced pinch weld longer, so you can fit both your jack and jack stands at the same time. I remember the first time I used the jack. I jacked up on the pinch weld and and when I lowered the car on the stands, I ended up bending the metal part after the reinforced weld.

Yes scissor jacks are good for changing a tire only. I wouldn’t recommend using them if you are doing a brake job. The pump jacks are good for lifting and lowering but I wouldn’t recommend them to be used to hold the car up why’ll you do your work. Always use jack stands to hold the car up why’ll you work and placing them properly key as well.

@@Dialysisforever True. Also, Harbor Freight has recalled all their jack stands, so return 'em if you got em, even without receipts. Few US made stands, so always oversize the weight limit on the ones you do buy, and try to not buy the cheapest for something you're depending upon for safety.
At the 4:03 mark, what kind of adapter is that? My jack stand don't have much of a groove for that lip on the car where you would typically use the scissor jack.
Of course you can, however having it up on jacked up or on stands means you aren't going to get all the oil out. Better to get a little dirty and crawl under it if possible.
It amazes me that the last video I watched on youtube on the exact same subject said to do the exact opposite. It said you never put the jack stands under the pinch welds. Instead you use the jack to lift the car at the pinch welds and put the jack stands under frame members of the car. Go figure.
It depends - even you're using a scissor type jack that lifts perfectly vertical, it's ok to use the pinch welds and support the vehicle frame with jack stands. A garage / trolley lifts at a slight angle and that can bend the pinch welds and cause a collapse. The method demonstrated herein is a good one for garage repairs.
@@rasmadrak You are better off putting jack stands under the steel frame of the vehicle. Those pinch welds are for jacking up a car for a quick tire change. They will bend quickly. For best safety use 2 sets of jack stands and leave your lift or jack under the car too! Might save your life. I think car manufacturers should have to paint the best areas to place a jack or stands. My daughter's Honda Civic has a neat arrow on the frame showing where to place the jack for lifting in front. Cool!
So if I see a thin piece of metal running from the front of the car to the back, and the metal has two notches in it, this is the place to put the Jack, right? My 2005 Toyota Avensis is like this
They're called rhino ramps. I got mine from Walmart. Decent priced and yes they're perfect for oil changes. That's what I always use for my oil changes
There are usually two indentations, and normally the jack stand should be placed in-between the indentations. If you place the jack outside of this area, you might separate the sheet metal of the body. It is best to check your car's manual to be certain.
@@MizzQueenBreNaturally Alrighty. Usually there's valve that the handle fit into. Turn it clockwise to enable pumping and raising, and anti-clockwise to release pressure (lower the jack). Be careful to lower *slowly* otherwise you might damage yourself or the car. I recommend lifting and lowering a inch just to get a feel for the valve. When the valve is locked (clockwise turned) you can pump the lever on the end to raise the jack. ALWAYS use jack stands / axle stands when the car has been lifted. There are rules for refilling oil etc as well, but usually jacks work a long time without refilling unless something is wrong.
( Losing the handle usually only means losing the convenience of having a "all in one" tool to adjust the jack. You can tighten the valve with a wrench and you can pump the jack with any lever, more or less )

Greetings from a mechanical engineer. I'm on my 4th Camry, got a 07 Civic with 380,000 and an '05 Highlander with 210,000. The pinch welds are strong enough for lighter vehicles and not strong enough for heavier vehicles....and that's because the two pieces of sheetmetal forming this seam, are nearly the same thickness. With that being said, the entire area under and around this designated area are strong enough to hold the car. Take your car to a regular garage, and watch them put their lift pads under that general area, not give it too much thought, and begin lifting your vehicle. Basically, it will be fine. On the rear of my Highlander the driver's side pinch weld rolled over....it was starting to do that before we bought it. The heavy durometer rubber adapters you mention don't really have to have a notch deep enough to straddle that pinch weld with room to spare, because the upper parts will eventually contact the areas on each side, distribute the weight, and keep those welds from bending AND from chipping off paint which can turn rusty. From upstate salty New York, my civic has been lifted at those by an old small NAPA floor jack for 14 years and still is free of major rust. However, since I'm now a poor owner of an '18 Camry since a deer totaled my '12, I'm buying all of the pads from this video ruclips.net/video/rufw1k9WCZc/видео.html

@@ezwa9979 well I've placed jackstands inboard along the welds as well and that area didn't deform at all. The proper distribution of weight is likely that slotted square channel on the emergency sissor jack.
likely perhaps, I wonder if all(most since we’re talking likely) pinch welds are the exact length of distance between those 2 flat things on top of many scissor jax these days & the 2 tiny curved things on bottom of each side- those are 2 curved things are very small spots for pinchweld to be resting in btw.. the thing is.. pinch welds bend because both floor jax & the car, go up & down in curved directions. at least scissor jax go str8 up or down(although car still curvs away).. but as I was saying before I interupted myself- the thing is, no one knows - Iv got viDOz yapN aboOt how the pinchweld is the s2pidest imaginable jack spots & how it’s probley deliberate👋

Yes, but refer to your vehicle handbook first. It's usually well documented in there. :)
Those rubber adapters are known to shift. Gotta watch for that too.

you can use the scissor jack to lift the car up, but use a jack stand and lower the car onto it. I do this all the time.

Kinda dumb use a jack stand on grass since it will sink into the ground. Thats what plywood, some pieces of 2x4 or steel plate is for.
Never use a floorjack on an unstable or soft surface, use a piece of metal or wood to create a hard surface and spread the force on the grass
